The service here was wonderful, and we had a great ocean view. The food was just okay. I ordered a lobster tail, I like the grilled taste but had to cut the lobster with my butter knife, was a bit tough. My spouse got fish and chips, small portions and left us needing to eat in our hotel later. My son ate a hot dog, for 3 of us to dine cost $100. Only one glass of wine involved. Lol. Again, great service, overpriced food. But I guess that's what you get when you eat at a tourist trap.

Basic Monterey restaurant. Food was good but nothing special, service ok but nothing special. View is great and location easy to find.

We were on Cannery Row for a romantic getaway. I'd made the reservation a week in advance. Our hostess seated us at what was arguably the most desirable table in the house: we were over the water, with a view of Monterey and the bay. The clam chowder was outstanding. The wine list included our favorite. Our server was attentive but never hovered. Highly recommended!

We visited for dinner with out of town guests and had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The service was great and the food was delicious. It’s a great location on the wharf with a fantastic view.

Nice views and festive atmosphere right on the water. Food was good, particularly the macadamia crusted halibut.

My son got a kid's menu spaghetti and meatballs that was tiny for $11. You can either give a small plate of food or you can charge $11 for a kid's meal of pasta, but you shouldn't do both. It was (modestly) better quality than a can of Chef Boy-ar-dee, but it wasn't more substantial.

Perfect spot for a delicious seafood dinner with remarkable ambience. We were able to sit outside right next to the water underneath a heater. Perfection! Our server was also excellent.

What a huge disappointment! From the barely-there service, to the lackluster food, to the high prices, to the butter that was spilled down my husband’s expensive parka coat that the waitress chose to ignore... when we travel, we tend to pick one nice restaurant for a nice dinner out. Fish hopper was our choice. They clearly think they’re an upscale nicer restaurant, but the food is not up to par with what they charge, and our waitress was horrible. No eye contact, barely waited on us, we had to flag her down for everything, and I heard 3 other tables around us complain about their service as well. I didn’t find their chowder to be “award winning,” and I’ve had many a clam chowder in my day. My husband had the surf and turf for $54, and the steak was terrible, baked potato was a joke. At least the lobster tail was alright, but for the price? I had the blackened mahi mahi which was just ok in my opinion. To top it off, the waitress spilled the melted butter from my husband’s lobster tail all down his jacket and didn’t say anything!

Our New Year's Eve meals were well prepared, artfully presented, impeccably served, and delicious!! A window seat to view the moonlit waves and the lights across the bay made our evening even more special. Warm sourdough rolls and clam chowder we're sublime. My Crab Louie was generous and garnished with avocado, mango and papaya, others in our party had the Blackened Ahi and the Swordfish, and everyone was pleased with their meals. This is a favorite place to dine when we're in Monterey; we will definitely return.

We started with appetizers and drinks and decided to hold off on the food until we could gauge our appetite after the appetizers before ordering more food and drinks. Good thing!!! Although the server was very polite, she seemed overworked. The food was mediocre and overpriced. We just paid the check, left a good tip for the poor waitress and left. We ate a couple of blocks away at Schooners and the service, food, and ambience were great!

It was good food with a beautiful view. They had sand dabs, which is hard to find and they were delicious. Overall a good experience but we felt it was pricey. The cocktails were innovative.

Food was “over fancified”. Lobster stuffed tail tasted like baby food textured for dentures. The abalone was like a salt-lick. Adding sodium to food doesn’t make it better, it covers up the real flavor of
The food. Way overpriced for the poor taste. They would do well to have a simple menu of foods that are great and not overworked. My date was unimpressed.

Had a late meal with friends. The Seafood was excellent, fresh and tasty! Some of my party had crab, lobster, rib eye steak, fish and chips and ciopino...I didn’t hear a single complaint...only praise. Our waitress was most accommodating as one person in our party kept asking for extras that required going back and forth to the kitchen!

Disappointed. Food was below average. Although we had reservations we were seated directly behind the stand where they take walk up to go orders. We listened to the attendee scream order numbers throughout our meal.

I truly enjoy this restaurant every time we visit Monterey. It is one of my favorites. They have excellent special meals that are not on the menu which what I always get. But the menu food is also delicious. The drinks are also Greta as well.

Our waiter started out attentive and then disappeared once we got our food. Half of our party didn’t enjoy their food and we began splitting our entrees with them. Not one staff member thought this warranted checking up on, and therefore 2 stars for service. It’s very pricey for the portion!! I was really disappointed.

We ordered the lobster risotto. The display was of a good size. Our plates came, but it’s apparent that the lobster, the risotto portion was smaller than the display. We’ve been here six previous times, but this time something was lacking.

2017 Christmas dinner. Was seated promptly 10 minutes before our reservation time at an ocean view table. We both ordered soup to start and Halibut for main course. Took 20 minutes for soup to arrive. Mine was barely lukewarm. Don't understand what took so long. Clam Chowder is sold at front of restaurant to passing tourists... I could have walked up there and got a bowl in 2 minutes. Then we waited. And waited. Finally was served our main course, an hour and ten minutes after we arrived. By this time, our section of the restaurant had only 2 other couples finishing dinner. It was deserted. Our waitress then disappeared. Other wait staff was crowded around the bar watching a football game on TV. We finished dinner. And waited. And waited. Finally a busboy sheepishly walked over and dropped off the bill. We didn't get a chance to look over the dessert tray, order coffee... nothing. So busboy finished processing our bill, and as we got up to leave, our waitress magically appeared wishing us "Merry Christmas."
We had arrived at 7:10pm. Left at 9:05pm. Unacceptable service for a fairly pricey restaurant.
Same company owns "Scales" on Fisherman's wharf and a few other seafood places there. We shall avoid them. My wife & I have travelled all over the world and are not too picky. I usually never complain or write a review.. but in this case, I made an exception.

The meals were great! Beyond delicious! Not cheap but worth every penny. Prawns were huge and taste like lobster. Lamb and stiff lobster were cooked to perfection and creatively inspired. I would get desserts somewhere else after dinner, however. They were all sub-par (we tried three different desserts).

The food was honestly the best I've ever had in Monterey. The only bad thing was the waiter took my friend's soup early when he wasn't finished. He was very upset and it was unfair he paid the full amount when he wasn't done eating.

My third visit to the Fish Hopper. I liked it a lot, so this time while in town I organized a business/fun dinner. Only complaint was not having some beers and wines that were on their menu. Great ambience especially while still light. Crashing waves beneath and sea otters/harbor seals frolicking in the kelp.

Decided to dine at this place based on the yelp reviews. Overall it’s a solid 3 stars. We ordered the lobster mushrooms as an appetizer, ahi salad with mango/papaya, their famous clam chowder and the surf and turf as our main course. The salad was ok nothing special about it. The clam chowder was great. The best part of the surf and turf dish was the fillet mignon - almost cooked to perfection. The lobster tail was quite small and tasted ok. I don’t think the entire dish was worth $55 given the portion size.
