Excellent service, delicious food, great ocean views through out restaurant.
Made my birthday special with a complimentary cake and the waiter sang! We sat on the patio and it was wonderful
Pedestrian food at best and at ridiculously high prices. Influenced by other positive reviews, we tried Fish Hopper but all 3 meals didn't satisfy - not even close. Food was lukewarm to cold, messy looking to the point of unappealing, and in some cases overcooked. Managed to ruin French fries - cold and served on cold cabbage! Too many ingredients on each plate. The clam chowder - supposedly award winning - bore no resemblance to white chowder made in New England. Theirs is sweet (awful), full of diced carrots, and not a clam in taste or sight (except for the ones an otter floating on its back in the harbor was eating in view of our table. Great view but that's all. Never again.
The food and the atmosphere were absolutely perfect for dinner over the sea. Our server Jose was attentive and well versed in the menu. Specials were fabulous.
I ordered the taste of monterey, and the fish was dry, and the sauce quite rich. The waitress was a little abrupt and did not explain the menu. The room was too dark.
The price rating states $. I feel it should be $$. The food was good, but nothing spectacular, especially for the price. I would say this is a tourist type restaurant. They have basic meals for reasonable prices, but most people would want to choose off the 'specials" menu, which the average price was $40 a plate.
Good but over priced with small portions.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Monterey. The service and food are excellent. The food is always fresh, presented in an artistic way, and I love sitting and watching the sea otters, sea lions, and boats in the water. I've never had a bad meal here. I bring guests here to experience Monterey at it's best! It is a bit pricey so it's definitely a once in while restaurant, but it's worth it.
Service was good but the kitchen was slow when we were there. The view was terrific. The food was very good.
Great food, great service, great atmosphere and beautiful views of Monterey Bay. Priced moderately. We will always return when we are back to visit.
Excellent experience on the waterfront for our group of adults and upper teens. Especially enjoyed being in the wing over the water with 3-sided views. Food was delicious, service was just right (attentive but not intrusive), atmosphere was perfect. Not cheap, but not out of line for the area and view, and it was a wonderful time for all of us. I've never had a bad meal or experience in the 3-5 times I've been here. Advise having reservations. They cheerfully created a vegan meal for my daughter that she thoroughly enjoyed, avoiding the ingredient she's allergic to. She was very impressed with it and pleased at the attitude and service. Very nice experience.
Crusted macadamia Halibut was overcooked, very dry inside. Skirt steak was very very very salty. Seafood pasta was not too bad, shrimps are a bit salty. Waiter’s service was very slow, never got my hot water refilled. We went at 2:30 PM, restaurant was quite empty.
The whole experience was so amazing we decided to go back the next day to try more items on the menu. Between three of us and two days, we were able to sample many options. The clam chowder bread bowl was amazing; the stuffed shrimp pasta was another favorite, and the ahi salad was beautiful and delicious. We can't wait to go back.
Great food and excellent service. I would go again.
We wanted to give this tourist spot a chance but it was disappointing to say the least. Too bad because the seafood is super fresh but the execution of the dishes were awful. Service was polite and friendly but the food was sub par. “Award-winning chowder”... maybe 20 years ago - it was loaded with flour as a thickener and left a film in your mouth. I’ve honestly had better chowder from a grocery store. It was expensive and not one dish was worth the price. We should’ve known, it’s an expensive tourist trap!
The food was delicious starting with the clam chowder to the seafood pasta and bone in ribeye that was cooked perfectly. In addition, we had great service. We plan on coming again next time we're in Monterey.
Mediocre tourist trap that doesn't meet the standard of California restaurants. Expensive, indifferent service (3 items we ordered for diner were incorrect and 2 were forgotten). I was really disappointed in our experience.
I have eaten there a number of times, and the food is always good, and usually the service is good. Everything was per the norm, except for the service. This may have just been because of the particular waitress, and not necessarily reflective of the overall service provided by the restaurant. However, we ended up waiting quite a bit, always having difficulties getting refills on drinks, or even getting the final bill.
The waiter was terrific, the view, lovely, but the food was marginal and overpriced.
The food was just okay...not worth the $50/plate price tag. Service was tolerable. Odd they have a kids menu but no coloring/crayons. We never received Rolls like we saw the tables around us receive. Felt like the place had an identity crisis...expensive but super loud and attempting to be casual.
Really appreciated ease of making reservation and then getting seated immediately and without disruption. Definitely wouldn’t attempt to do a walk in during a holiday weekend, but it was so easy to make reservation online and then be seated to enjoy our experience immediately.
Food consistently amazing, service so wonderful, and drinks are on key.
Will return again!
Food was good. Unfortunately the appetizer, salads and entree all arrived at the same time - like literally. The server was accompanying dating when I requested he remove my salad as I did not want my entree and appetizer to get cold. Artichoke was pretty good. Blackened mahi mahi was also good. Excellent clam chowder. Great wait staff & beautiful ambience.
The food was pretty good. I really enjoyed the Macadamia Crusted Halibut paired with the sweet potato ring it sat on. My wifes food was good too. My only grips are 1: the Loaded Bloody Marry was $10 plus an additional $6 upcharge for three “Prawns.” I quote because all they really are where 3 boiled, large “jumbo” shrimps. Im a cook, i know the difference between jumbo shrimp and an actual large prawn. 2: The plate prices where a little steep. Both dishes were $37... i know a business needs to make money but 37 bucks for a dish that costs $4~$6... really?
I have been coming here with my husband for the last 3 years for our Valentines day outings. It is actually one of the places my parents would frequent when they were dating too. Always a pleasure. It was such a treat this year the outdoor dinning area was open for dinner. Such a lovely spot.
Great restaurant....been to all in Monterey and the Fish Hopper by far has the best food
We probably had one of the best meals we have ever had in a restaurant!!
Thank you Fishhopper!!
We had reservations, arrived early and were told that we could not be seated early despite dozens of open tables. We decided to have drunks at the bar (bad idea) the bar area was wet and sticky. We had to listen to all the bar tenders mimic/make fun of the only Hispanic bartender's accent. Every time the bar tender would say something one young lady in particular would mimic what he said and laugh. Very unprofessional and quite frankly just all out rude. Finally, our table is "ready" come to find out that our table is right next to the kitchen door. All night I could hear plates slamming and had to bear with waiters bumping into my shoulder every 20 minutes. That food was substandard. My salmon was over cooked. The only thing that was good on my plate was the mixed vegetable. Sadly, this was my first and last time to the fish hopper.
When you have a world class Chef, ( Chef Mo )running an amazing restaurant likeThe Fish Hopper, nothing but the best comes out of the kitchen. Hands down my favorite restaurant on Cannery Row.
Dissapointed in how rushed we were. The place used to be more fancy for special occasions but new upgrade has turned into a tourist resteraunt and has lost its standout among the rest. Menu selection is not what it used to be as you can tell fresh fish is no longer served and wine selection very poor. Very dissapointed Ill choose Fishermans wharf for my choices next time.
We had a great dining experience at the Fish Hopper. My husband got the halibut and I the ahi tuna and both were delicious! So fresh! The service was impeccable. We had our 5 month old with us and those with young babies know that sometimes you have to eat quick before baby gets bored, and the food came very quickly so we were free to take our time, or head out if the babe got grumpy. The champagne by the glass choices could use an improvement, but other than that, it was awesome. We will definitely be going back.
My favorite restaurant in Monterey! The fresh fish and seafood here is incredible, always prepared perfectly with delicious sauces and generous portions. The Asian pork ribs are fantastic too. The wait staff is very friendly and attentive. All tables have an amazing ocean view as the restaurant is built on a pier over Monterey Bay at Cannery Row. You can see seals frolicking right outside the windows.
Service, food & overall experience great. We dine here at least twice every year during week of Pebble Beach ProAm.
We went there to celebrate my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary. Our servers were great. 😊
It was our daughter’s 6th birthday and they brought a wonderful birthday surprise, chocolate cake topped with vanilla ice cream and a beautifully written “Happy Birthday” on the plate. She was over the moon. Thank you for making her birthday magical.
The view is breathtaking sitting over the water in Monterey bay. The food does not disappoint, delicious and a wide variety. Best of all a pleasant surprise as we came in. The young lady that sat us recognized that one in our party was a US Marine from his hat. I noticed as we were walking to the table she was carrying an American flag. She placed it on the table as she thanked him for his service. Then we were served a tasty shrimp appetizer on the house. So nice right. When we finished dinner a delicious chocolate bread pudding dessert arrived, also on the house. Needless to say the Marine felt 10 feet tall. Way to go Fish Hopper!! Semper Fi!!! Definitely recommend!
Great service and good food, celebrating my son's birthday with family. Waitress brought him a fancy ice cream topped brownie with a candle. Everyone in the group was happy and satisfied, and always love the view.
Wonderful, healthy and innovative food! Beautiful ocean view.
Fabulous food! The wild salmon with spinach risotto and tomato basil relish was so good, went back the next night and got it again. Melts in your mouth. Service was smart. The view is breathtaking.
I would come back. The food was amazing and the staff were very attentive. Thanks for making my birthday very special 😚
