We had a lovely dinner with a table reserved for us by the window with unobstructed ocean view. We were celebrating two special birthdays and the Fishopper made it a wonderful evening. This is one of our favorite restaurants when we want fresh seafood, good service and great views. We make it a must to have lunch or dinner here when we’re in town.

Overall everything was fine, I just would not call it an outstanding restaurant. The view is awesome if that is important to you. My only irritation, was that on this day it was raining and windy and cold. The hostess, tried to get us to sit outside, saying it covered and heated. After one minute outside, could not take it. I guess some people might want to sit outside during a storm, but I thought that was not a thoughtful thing to do.

We decided to go to Fish Hopper this Thanksgiving as an alternative meal as we had a Weds night turkey dinner with one side of the family, and we were joining the other side Friday, so we were looking for an alternative to just turkey. The food exceeded our expectations - it is a restaurant in a touristy area and we went on Thanksgiving, so our expectations were not super high to be honest. But everything was really prepared exceptionally well. Between us all, we had salmon, tuna, lobster, shrimp, crab, and scallops and it was all cooked perfectly - tender, moist and flavorful with fresh, delicious accompaniments. The service was friendly and fast but not rushed, and the view was exceptional. We are now adding this restaurant to our rotation when in Monterey. Thank you Fish Hopper for a wonderful Thanksgiving meal.

Too expensive for the food quality that was served. We ordered Halibut Fish and Chips, which comes with only 2 measly small pieces of Halibut that was firm, and not soft. Clam chowder is good but overrated, and generally not worth the money.

We love this restaurant. Our waiter, Jeff, was great! We appreciated that he asked to take our toddlers order while we were still deciding on our dinners so he could eat sooner. We have never had a waiter ask us that before! My husband got the clam chowder and said it was good, a little sweet though. My mother in law ordered the salmon and loved it. I ordered the New York steak medium done and it came to me raw. I sent it back and it came back still too raw for me and we had to get going so my husband ate it instead. My toddlers meal of chicken , rice, and broccoli was perfect for him.

The one thing I thought was odd was that I reserved a table inside at a window and they originally wanted to seat us outside. We didn’t bring jackets because we thought we would sit inside. They did sit us inside after we asked again, but not next to a window unfortunately.

We have eaten here a number of times at this monterey location and the Fish Hopper in Hawaii.
Hawaii Fishfopper food is excellent, where as the food at Monterey Fishhopper was average, but nice ocean views.

Fresh seafood. Delicious! We had one of the seafood platters for two with scallops, lobster, shrimp, crab, and salmon. Everything was perfectly cooked, and tasty, with the exception of the shrimp which was just ok—good, but not fabulous like everything else. The sardine appetizer is worth trying, and the clam chowder was delicious too.

I would definitely return again if we are in Monterey.

Food was awesome. Portions large, and for a table of eight, no one had a meal that was less than stellar. Service, Fidal was great. Patient with a bit of a crazy group of eight having spent the day tasting wine. Great venue on the coast. Not much can we even think about suggesting for a change.

Love the experience at the Fish Hopper. We have been there many times and take our out-of-town guests there if we are exploring Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The food is tasty, sitting on the patio or at the window looking at the ocean kayakers, sea otters, diving birds, and beauty that is Monterey Bay makes this place a gem! They have very good clam chowder, tasty food and a very kind and accommodating serving staff.

We had the clam chowder that was excellent, salmon and shrimp. All very tasty. Our server was friendly. When we had a couple children sitting behind us that kept bouncing and bumping our seat back, our waiter asked the hostess to move our table. We were quickly moved and the rest of our meal went really well. Great to sit right by the window and see the ocean.

The fish is very fresh and the side vegetables cooked just right. The sauce for the ahi tuna made with mangoes is delicious.
Only downside for me was the lightning in the restaurant that I thought a bit dim to see the plate, but it offers an amazing view of the ocean and the bay at night, so not bothering sea otters and other animals is important too !

We decided to try Fish Hopper due to reviews about the “best clam chowder,” even though we already have a favorite restaurant for clam chowder. Wow, talk about subpar, yet pricey food! We spent $60 on 2 bowls of clam chowder and 1 coconut shrimp appetizer! No drinks, just water. The clam chowder tasted like it was thickened with flour & the coconut shrimp was so-so.

A HUGE disappointment, considering the high rating of reviews.

We come to the FishHopper every time we come to Monterey. This time we were a little disappointed. While the staff was very attentive to our wants/needs the food let us down a little bit. The clam chowder was great, best in Monterey as far as we're concerned. I had the fish & chips and the fish was overcooked in the middle and slightly burnt on the outside. My wife had a chicken sandwich and while it was cooked better than the fish she said it was rather bland and lacking in flavor. We had a slice of carrot cake for dessert and both loved it. They did accommodate our 21 month old daughter even though we had to leave our stroller out in the side hallway outside the restaurant which we weren't really comfortable doing. Thankfully it was still there when we were done eating.

Prices on the high side for what you get, but still a good place to celebrate a special occasion.
