OpenTable Diner (San Francisco)

I made a reservation weeks ago in order to request a table by the window away from the bar. When we arrived, they had not reserved any of the 6-7 tables that would have fit my request, and they were unapologetic and slightly rude about it. We had really like this place in the past, coming here for at least two dinners each of our past several trips to Kona. This time, they had jacked the prices astronomically and cut the quality of the food by a significant amount. I paid $12 for a super low budget Mai Tai (tasted like canned OJ and very cheap spirits). I also ordered the $18 crab meat appetizer. It was far from expectations for $18—lots of avocado and unripe mango and less than 1/4 cup of crab meat. It used to come with a good aioli sauce, but now they squirt cheapo teriyaki sauce on it. My daughter’s chicken entree have plain steamed broccoli on the side. I don’t think I’ve seen that since the early 80’s., certainly not on an entree that is over $25. If they had offered to comp me a drink or dessert for blowing off my reservation, I might have given them the benefit of the doubt and another chance in the future. There are a lot of good restaurants in Kona now, so go elsewhere unless you want poor to mediocre food and service at elite prices.

Because we had such great food during our stay in Kona, this restaurant disappointed. The drinks were good and the location was nice, but the food was nothing spectacular.....not bad,
but not great.

Great location on Kona Bay. Seafood is always Fresh and superbly prepared. Lots of gluten-free options (including a yummy chocolate-macadamia nut cake) for my husband who has Celiac disease.

We visit Kona on a yearly trip, and the Fish Hopper is a MUST visit (At least once)! Tim is our favorite server, and remembers us from year to year!

Great food! I had one of the specials - Parmesan Crusted Mahi-mahi. It was amazing! Deserts were so big neither of us finished them (which is unusual for me).

We went to the Fish Hopper for New Year’s Eve and were delighted with the meal and the service. We went back a couple of nights later hoping for the same experience and were sadly disappointed. Lauren, our server, was a total space cadet. We ordered an appetizer and a couple of drinks that took forever to arrive at our table. As we ate the appetizer, we wondered if Lauren would ever return to take our order. Finally, I decided to track her down and told her we wanted to order our meal. After another interminable wait, our meals arrived. My medium well done Land and Sea Burger was over done and tough as shoe leather. My plate looked half empty and it was. The fries were missing and the prawns on a skewer were nowhere to been seen. When I ordered a second glass of wine it was about 2 1/2 oz. The barman was too lazy to open a new bottle to pour a proper glass. The server reduced the bill by $5.00 !!! and gave us a card for a free appetizer for our next visit. We left no tip and won’t ever go back. This was at 5:45 pm when the restaurant was 1/2 to 2/3 full.

We loved this place! The service was great and the food was amazing. We needed gluten free options due to god allergies and they took excellent care of us. Do yourself a favor and get the pork ribs!

We make sure to visit Fish Hopper every time we’re in Kona. We ate here right after we arrived, and already have our next reservation for before we head home. The monchong with risotto is SO good!

Breakfast menu is excellent, the French toast looks amazing. We have been twice at the Fish Hopper and our daughter had the French toast twice.
