The reason to come here is to watch the waves and sun setting down while u eat. It does let you overlook a seriously run down feel of this place. Food was decent, great fish and chips. Drinks were not so good for us.
We enjoyed our dinner very much. The food was excellent and our server attentive. Maybe a bit expensive but you are in Hawaii right by the water and that makes it special.
Open air dining overlooking Kona waterfront. Fresh local fish always a good choice. Excellent service.
Service was slow, food quality definitely wasn’t worth the price, and the price was super expensive. Also, the water tasted and smelled funny.
Food was average,but very expensive.
Wait staff was great. View is awesome
Great atmosphere, great food and great service for a good value
The Crab and lobster was delicious! We loved this place so much we came back for lunch the next day.
The food was wonderful. If you come before evening the view is terrific. The cup of clam chowder is a MUST!
Our server was very good even though she was swamped.
Open air restaurant, so the noise level was very high: all tables were filled and street and car noise.
Food was ok but very small portions. My fish (Monchong) was only about 3 ounces...
My husband had seafood pasta and it had 2 small shrimp and 2 small scallops and the flavor was bland.
Maybe we picked the wrong thing to get but both choices were recommended by our server.
We felt the prices were very high.
Probably won’t go back.
We were seated right at our reservation time
Very good service from waitress
Appetizer was really good (poke nachos)
Entrees were good, although for the first time here the portion size of the Monchong was very small looked less than 3 oz. which left me hungry for more, luckily all the risotto they put under neath filled me up, but would have preferred more fish.
Coconut shrimp was our other entree, which was slightly over cooked, but was good with the lilikoi sauce.
Tourist food - trying to be kore elevated but not really achieving that. Still enjoyed our overall experience.
Really enjoyed Fish Hopper. Had the seared Tuna! Delish. Great food, fabulous drinks, and excellent view! We will be back!
Food was amazing! Poke was spicy, coconut shrimp was the best I have ever had.
The view of the ocean was lovely, the service relatively good (I felt like our waitress was a little slow but overall attentive) and the food was good, but I would consider it over priced. Including tip (a little over 20%) my husband and I paid $100.00 flat for two entrées, a large beer, and one dessert to share. I had the gluten free Macadamia crusted Mahi Mahi and my husband got the pork. The mahi mahi was good, but everything definitely needed some salt. The gluten free chocolate macadamia cake was also good, but it was served cold, which was disappointing to me. Overall I would say that our experience was pleasant but I was not wowed, which I would want when I am paying $100 for a dinner for two. The food and service was just good, not great.
It’s a water side fish place - food was decent - NaDa colada was ok, dessert was tasty - server friendly but talked you out of things that interested you - ambience like an upscale diner kind of - enjoyed our time - food could have used a little more seasoning and sauce. Overall a decent experience with a tourist price tag
Went to Fish Hopper on Valentine's Day and had a great meal with great service the Kailua Sunryes cocktail was delicious and the seafood pasta was very good! I hope to return
Lovely Valentine’s Day dinner. It was a mad house even with reservations, but the front of the house hostess was lovely and did a good job of keeping things going. Specials were excellent (we had Coconut Shrimp and the Jumbo scallop risotto).
Very touristy, which is just fine. Ordered the skirt steak medium and it was cooked way too long. It was crispy and tough to eat. My spouse got mahi, that wasn’t seasoned very much (or at all). The crab legs were delicious.
We ordered crab legs as a pupu, but someone tried to serve our food prior to getting them. We believe they then took our food and stuck it under the warmer until we got the crab legs, then brought out our main dishes. The presentation was good, but food was heavily lacking flavor and eatability. We won’t be coming back unfortunately.
Excellent food! Service was great and an awesome view overlooking the ocean
Oh boy, have you ever had half your meals just not show up... 2 out of 4 plates didn't.
Table of 4 Valentines/ early Anniversary dinner.
Husbands fish with salad NEVER made it to the table and that's all he ordered. I got my oysters when everyone else was finished with dinner. Went without drinks. Food was either undercooked or overcooked. The waitress seemed really nice but maybe just new. She didn't check on us or even realize that our food hadn't come, we just had to keep looking for her. Kind of joked about it but it's not cool when you spend hundreds of dollars at a restaurant (drinks and a 100 dollar special) to leave hungry and unsatisfied on Valentines and need to find somewhere else to go to.
Heard good things so hopefully this was just a single bad experience but I'd rather not waste money a 2nd time to find out.
Dodd was very good. Enjoyed the crab omelette
The Fish Hopper is always on our list of favorite, must visit restaurants when we travel to Kailua-Kona. Staff is always friendly, fish entrees are so good (the monchong with risotto is a favorite of ours). Lilikoi cheesecake was amazing!
Overalll good. Fish was a little dry but flavors were good
We had two really good dinners there. The wait staff did a good job. And have always recommended to others to dine at Fish Hoppers. Reserving a table ahead of time on Open Table was very helpful to us. This is what helped us determine where to eat. For sure, we would recommend Fish Hopper as a place to have dinner. Kudos to the greeters at the front desk who were very quick to engage conversation with us as they prepared to seat us.
Great food, very good and quick service. Deserts were good also.
Always great!! Has been one of my favorite places on the island!!
Price was same as Merriman’s but food was not of same quality. Rather drive for better meal
I put birthday but they didn’t do anything but other then that I would go again.
First, promised us a certain table then sat someone else there. Service was good, drinks were good. Ceviche with chips was bland and skimpy. Fish trio was very small pieces of fish, and seriously people, mashed pitatoes are cheap, for $38 a plate we expected a bit more.
There were a lot of diners, so a lot of people enjoy the food at Fish Hopper. I ordered chicken parmesan. The mashed potatoes & vegetables were good. The chicken looked deep fried and the grease was shining off of it. It was covered with a cold green sauce.
I ate a few bites, but the grease turned me off. I like chicken parmesan, and have it often. This entrée' wasn't even a close third cousin to the real thing.
We’ve been here a few times and they never disappoint.
Food was excellent as was the service.
They seem to have it all together even with all the far reaching COVID restrictions.
Great food terrific staff and even though it was a cloudy day nice view
Sooooo not too fresh fish ... I am sure my coconut shrimp all two of them was frozen and flavored of coconut ... looked more like a corn dog piece ... the tuna was fine ... salad was ok ... waitress was lovely and attentive ... cost was high ... but it’s on the shore in Hawaii ...so of course the cost is higb
food was not good, drinks not much better. the best thing we had was the salad dressing.
Great food, service and ocean views!
We always enjoy our meals at Fish Hopper. There was a mix up with our order, but it was quickly changed and the meals were what we wanted. Then, they took off the cost of one of the meals to make up for the delay. Since we were not in a hurry that day, we actually enjoyed the leisurely breakfast.
We keep going back every week and we keep giving it a five star rating - sounds boring and yet it’s just delicious every single time. Couple that with amazing ambiance and great service and just simply five star - what else can I say?
The food here was outstanding. The service was great. The location was right by the water so an excellent view.
This will definitely be the place I come to first whenever I’m back in Hawaii, the food and service was awesome!!!!
