Just a short walk from Haymarket train station, First Coast is a local, independent neighbourhood restaurant. Over the past 11 years we’ve built a strong reputation for serving top quality modern Scottish food at reasonable prices.
Named after a small village in Wester Ross, where the owner has fond memories of eating brilliant Scottish produce during his childhood holidays, First Coast’s menu has something for everyone. Fresh fish is delivered daily, we offer a good range of tasty vegetarian options, J Gilmour butchers supply us with quality Aberdeen Angus steak, and we also make our own haggis

Food wasn’t that good and portions for starters were small. Risotto was heavy and too salty, the scialatielli taste was nothing special.

I’ve eaten in First Coast quite a few times in the last few years - however my recent experience wasn’t quite so good. Staff service was superb- appropriate and timeous- and just spot on. The menu had quite a lot of fish dishes which I thought was a change from previous visits? Meals chosen were haddock and chips a burger and seafood tagliatelle- the pesto on the pasta was very tasty but the overall dish wasn’t exciting. My friends thought their food was good enough. Sweets were affogato x2 - very nice and a caramel something- unfinished.The restaurant was very busy which is nice to see but quite noisy - perhaps some sound absorption panels? Overall ‘good enough’ but different from previous visits.

The staff are great and welcoming, the food was amazing. Great value for money. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

I'm a fairly regular customer at First Coast, and recommended it to two friends for our Edinburgh meet-up. I sent them the sample fixed price lunch menu from First Coast's web site. When we got there we were given the a la carte menu. I asked for the lunch menu and was told they had discontinued that offer "a couple of months ago". When we said it was on their web-site we were told that no, that had been taken down. When my friend opened the site on his phone, we got a shrug and an "oh that shouldn't be there". No offer to honour the deal, no apology, nothing knocked off the bill. I suppose that left a bad taste in my mouth, which the food didn't help to dispel: three over cooked king prawns on some chewy flat bread with some sort of gloop (ingredients unidentifiable), followed by a sliver of haddock entombed in half a pound of batter and a cheese cake that might have spent too long in the chiller. On the plus side the wine was very good, and the coffee was fine. I'm disappointed in the by the food, and might think twice about coming back for dinner. It's worth mentioning that our server was excellent, service was quick, and the window-table excellent.

I have been to First Coast many times before. As always, the food, service and staff were all excellent. This is the first time that i had the a la carte menu and found it to be excellent value for money. Also, the red wine that we had was really good. i would have no hesitation in recommending First Coast to any of my friends.

It's a lovely venue - was a bit odd that I was shown to the table tucked right at the back of the bright venue which was dark and had an annoying hum (radiator) noise and the table vibrated while there were a lot of free sunny tables. Asked to move and was without any issue - thank you. Lobster burger was crunchy and loads of fries. Not sure I'd have that again. My friends enjoyed their dishes. Wine good and not too pricey.

Disappointed. They advertise a prix fix lunch menu but 'stopped doing it 3 weeks ago'. Why is it still on the website? Food was overcooked. Won't be back
