Outstanding. Food even better than the last time. Highly recommend, will definitely return again and again.
Everything was above and beyond excellent!!
The proteins - both duck and steak were unevenly cooked and sliced inconsistently. NOT AT ALL ENJOYED.
The salad dressing was a bit much.
The bisque was delicious, potatoes, and wings as well.
Devon was amazing with her service!
Nice food but kitchen was slow at times, outdoor seating is cold and lacks ambiance despite heaters - could use a full bar. Book indoors if you go!
We had the tasting menu, which was well-balanced, and a great introduction to the kitchen's capacities. It featured a spot-on lobster bisque, good bread with herbed butter, roasted cauliflower with almonds, quinoa and golden raisins, more wonderful lobster, and perfectly done steak. And a chocolate and honeycomb dessert. The savory dishes were delicious. The dessert was good but not up to the standard of the other dishes -- the chocolate mousse was very good, but the white colored mousse had little flavor.
The amounts were just right: we felt replete but not stuffed. The wine pairings were intriguing and complemented the food well. Our waiter, Ben, was nice: friendly but not too pushy. All in all, a lovely evening, and we will return happily.
We had dinner here and it was ok. Our server was exceptional but the food came out so slowly that we were not hungry when our main dishes came out, and we didn’t have a large appetizer or anything. I wouldn’t say this is the best restaurant in Solvang, but it’s not the worst. What we did eat was very good. I prob won’t come back but I was happy to have the experience.
Service was great. Did was great. There was some background noise that hindered the experience but not enough to even slightly room the night.
Food was delicious and cooked to perfection. However the outdoor seating was very basic.
We had the 5 course tasting menu. Our first course was Maine Lobster Bisque. It was yummy. It was served with homemade sourdough bread with avocado butter. I’m drooling.
Next was their Michelin star truffle roasted cauliflower. It was delicious but slightly too much truffle for me. The catch of the day was Ahi tuna served with a Sunchoke Purée. Very good. For me the star of the meal was the Dry Aged Prime New York. It melted in your mouth. It was served with a to die for Bone Marrow Bearnaise. Dessert was Chocolate and Honey.
Benjamin was our fabulous server. 5 star excellent!
This elegant restaurant is a great choice for a romantic dinner or a quiet celebration. The food is delicious and the service is friendly. We will be back!
The Christmas dinner experience was not what we expected. The food was ok, but it didn’t worth the 200$ (with tax, service and beverages).
The wine experience was terrible. They served us 4 different wines and in more that one occasion , they didn’t change our glasses and there weren’t any information about the wine or the food.
For a special experience and for a restaurant with a Michelin star, we were expecting so much more.
signed up for for meal with a dry aged steak got a meal with some short ribs service was rushed and portions were very small and mediocre
My husband and I came here on Christmas Day for dinner. We enjoyed the prixe fix menu and it was so worth it! The ambiance, service, and most importantly food were second to none. First & Oak was the perfect place to go for Christmas Day Dinner and we could not recommend it highly enough!
Wonderful and delicious Christmas Eve 4 course experience. Everything was exquisite and the wine pairings were perfect with each course.
We had an early Christmas dinner and ended up booking one of the pre-fixe dinners. Upon arrival it was kind of odd but 3 different staff members/wait staff just walked right past up and didn't say hello or say the hostess would be with us.
We were subsequently seated in the smaller dining room off the right which did have a nice ambiance and cozy inn feel.
The meal itself was nice but not great. Food was lukewarm upon arrival to the table which I suspect was due to our late seating time and as several other tables were having the pre fixe as well.
The dining experience would have been fine overall and for 80 dollars it was a good deal for 5 courses. The server was friendly and attentive but perhaps not the most knowledgable. I'm not sure if it was Michelin Star quality experience but for a holiday late seating we didn't mind.
The table next to us however was terrible and continued to loudly complain throughout the entire dinner, sending food back, stating how unhappy they were, and when it came time to pay the bill continued to argue how they should be compensated more for their bad experience.
I only mention this because the server had to listen to them several times and was sent back and forth between the manager and the table. The dining room was small and I know this disrupted the meals of the other patrons (as one table requested to be moved to the other dining room to finish their meal). I felt like management should have stepped in sooner to address their complaints as to not disrupt the rest of the dining room and protect their waitstaff.
I think we'd certainly give this place another chance as it had good potential but as we were only in town for vacation I don't think it'll be anytime soon.
My husband and I really enjoyed our food. The kimchi cracklings were sooo good I am still thinking about it two weeks later.
Wines offered by the glass were decent. The food was good but could be better. The brussel sprouts were the most interesting thing I’ve eaten in years and were outstanding. The bread was excellent and worth the 7 dollar charge (who charges for bread?). Our mains (lamb and fish) were cooked perfectly but lacked spices and salt to send them into the excellent tasting category. I wish I had asked for salt for the lamb, but I was too hungry to wait for the server. The portions are small but we were warned before dining and it was expected. We got in and out, with four glasses of wine for around $200.00 with tip, which is excellent for the quality of food. The ambiance is exceptional if you like Victorian charm. Over all it was a great experience but next time I will be exploring other options before returning here.
Absolutely loved everything about this place! It’s very quaint and intimate inside. The food was fabulous and one of the best meals we’ve had in a long time. Everything here was very unique and special.
We waited a very long time for our food and when it did come it was brought a few dishes at a time. My daughter received hers last. We waited for her food and finally the rest of us ate while our food was still hot. Very expensive for the overall experience. That being said...the food was very good. The rest left a lot to be desired.
Hi, thank you for your feedback. I am glad to hear the food was delicious. Regarding timing we are doing our best to make things perfect and I apologize for any delays. Please keep in mind many restaurants are struggling with labor issues as team members are getting sick left and right. I appreciate your feedback and we will do our best to not let this happen in the future as we strive for excellence. Have a beautiful day!
The food was well prepared with incredible flavors mixed into one dish. Well worth a visit!!
The seating outside was wonderful and warm. I was initially skeptical but it was perfectly warm with all heaters in place as was the ambience.
Excellent meal with outstanding service. Will definitely come back here again on our next trip back to Solvang.
Fabulous and delicious dinner. We had the 5 course tasting menu. Lobster bisque was amazing as was the roasted cauliflower dish. So many textures and tastes together in great dishes! The wait staff were wonderful. I loved the wine spritzer and the waitress shared the information on it so I could find it at home. Lovely evening!
Service was awesome.
The tacos where amazing!!!
The ambiance was pretty good and the service was decent as well. It wasn't too full but I imagine that was because of the prices because the food was mediocre at best.
Delicious food, wonderful service and a quaint, cozy atmosphere where we visited with our neighboring diners. One of the best meals we have ever had!!
Most amazing dinner and service from Benjamin. Memorial birthday so special!
Everything was wonderful! Only complaint, though minor, was that there was very little meat on the rack of lamb. The sauce and the gnocchi were amazing, but skimpiest lollipops I have ever seen.
Gorgeous, boutique setting on a small, quiet street. Extensive, well-curated wine list. First class service. They have a fixed menu and a regular menu. The staters are lovely we had the Brussels sprouts. Catch of the day was halibut with nice accompaniment and topped with lobster bisque. I had rack of lamb with fresh blackberries, red cabbage and gnocci. Everything was beautifully presented.
Fantastic dinner! Duck wings were amazing. I would come back just for them! Roast loin of lamb was also incredible - very interesting presentation and complexity of accoutrements. Lastly, the confit potatoes were addictive. All in all - highly recommended!
Chef was AMAZING! The tasting menu was Brilliant! Service, Excellent! A memorable moment in your life!!
We started with the kimchee and duck wings. The sauce for the kimchee was like whipped mayonnaise. The duck wings needed more sauce and we barely room temperature.
We had the cauliflower which was by far the best dish although also served room temperature.
For entrees: The duck has no sauce and the skin was chewy instead of crispy and the meat was definitely rare.
The lamb was raw and not edible.
We didn’t order dessert as we just wanted to leave at that point.
The table next to us had two children… one of which was asleep and perfect. The other wad about three and was allowed to walk around and misbehave through their entire tasting menu. He only sat for dessert.
It was a very disappointing meal as we were really looking forward to coming since we read such rave reviews.
Truly in the spirit of Michelin, a great restaurant in a beautiful little town that was a fun drive to get to. The food was fantastic, recommended wine was excellent, and the staff was friendly and accommodating.
We sat outside and ate mostly appetizers and they had some good ones that were very creative and tasty and filling. The food was served quick fast soon after placing each set of orders.
WAY overpriced for the quality and experience. The wine pairing was all from one vineyard, and it paired with food that was served often cold, overcooked, or just simply lacking flavor. A dinner out with Michelin characteristics would aim to hit every mark, and First and Oak barely seemed to care that we were there. For $350, one could enjoy many very nice meals elsewhere. It isn't worth the cost or the hope of living up to any special expectation.
Delicious and elegant dining experience! A must-visit during a stay in Solvang! The restaurant has a lovely ambience in a lovely boutique hotel.
Thanksgiving dinner. Wonderful restaurant.
Fantastic food and wonderful service. Great Thanksgiving dinner!
Really nice Thanksgiving dinner! The food was absolutely delicious.
