We loved First and Oak. Elegant interpretations of classic dishes, perfectly prepared. We had oysters, a roasted beet salad with red dragon cheese and quinoa and entrees of duck and lamb. All prepared perfectly. The room is a block away from the tourist zone, and feels like an intimate hideaway. Huge wine list including many by the inn’s owner. The reisling and Pinot noir were very good.
I'll start off by saying the food was incredible and our waitress was fantastic. She was very attentive and. Knowledgeable about the food. Sadly because of the restrictions we were sitting out on the sidewalk which was less than stellar for such a nice restaurant. At one point a spider was running across our table. They did however provide heater laps which was really nice in the cool air outside. It's pricey but the food was unique, well prepared and artistic. You could tell they really put great care into each dish. I would wait to eat here till indoor dining is back in full force. I would be willing to eat here again.
The sauce of the scallops with pasta overpowered the dish but the duck and the bisque were both fantastic.
The scallops and salmon dishes were very nicely prepared. I would have liked more than just 2 scallops for the high price though. Didn’t fill me up.
We did not feel a welcoming attitude neither from the server or the owner. The food was ok, but nothing extraordinary.
First and Oak was the best service I had received in a long time. Our server, Leanne, was full of energy, charisma, and positivity! She was making great conversation with us, went over the menu beautifully, and she was easy to have a laugh with. We started with the bread and avocado butter and cauliflower dish. I highly recommend both. The sourdough bread was warm and the avocado butter was delicate. For our main dish we had the loin of lamb. Cooked medium rare per the chefs request and it was perfect. The sauce was sweet and complimented the meat so well. We sat outside and had a large amount of space between other tables. The ambience was romantic, perfect for date night. It is in a quaint little street and it feels like your in your own little movie. I had a fabulous experience at First and Oak and I am sure to return again!

Beautiful restaurant, great service, but although the appetizers were good the entrees were oddly spices and the lamb was a tiny portion. Also we sat by open doors with no heat. I had a jacket on, but my feet froze.

It was a special night and First & Oak delivered a special meal. If you are looking for great flavors and an appreciation for the ingredients, I highly recommend it.
I recommend the Duck Wings and the seasonal dessert. The Duck Wings has a sweet and tangy flavor and the meat comes easily off the bone. They also provide a water bowl so that you can clean your fingers after handling the Duck Wings. The seasonal dessert was a trifle with a vanilla bean ice cream, mousse (forgot what type) and apple pie crumble. It was light, fragrant, and delicious. Definitely a nice way to end a dinner. I would have liked to give the appetizer and entrée a recommendation as well; however, they did not stand out as much as I thought it would. We had the following: Salted Beet Salad, Roasted Cauliflower, Catch of the Day (pan-fried Corvina), and Scallop Linguini. They were delicious, with the exception of the Scallop Linguini which came out much saltier than my girlfriend and I expected. Overall, the experience and the food was great, but felt like half the food did not meet expectations.
Outstanding! Food, service, vibe. Everything was perfect! The scallops and duck entrees, to die for. Duck wings, woah! Also had a bottle of the 81’ Tempranillo, fantastic. Do yourself a favor and splurge at First & Oak.
We went to First and Oak on our honeymoon in Solvang, and it was amazing! The chef came out with multiple courses and explained the dishes in detail, the plating was beautiful, and most importantly the taste was delicious! The wait staff knew just how to space out the courses so you never felt rushed, and you got to savor each course as intended! We will definitely be coming back for our next special occasion!
The duck breast was extremely over cooked

Food was nothing special. Corkage was steep. Service was fair. With so many great restaurants in SYV I don’t think we will be going back.
Was great but didn’t like how are table was right next to another couple with just glass in between.
When in Solvang we always dine here. The Chef is awesome and the service is always outstanding. Nice and quiet. Makes you feel you are dining at your home.
First & Oak is a lovely spot in Solvang! The food was super tasty - the highlights for us were the confit potatoes, duck, and chocolate & honeycomb dessert (one of the best desserts I've had!). We sat outside and were grateful for the heaters. The service was wonderful and speedy and thoughtful. We brought our dog with us to dinner, and the staff mindfully sat us at a table with a little area out of the way for our dog and also brought water for him. Highly recommend if you're looking for a nice, upscale dining experience in Solvang.

Underwhelming. We had high hopes for this restaurant, but we thought the food and service were not worthy of the Michelin designation. The kimchi cracklings tasted nothing of kimchi, the scallops were too salty, and the duck was overcooked. They comped our dessert, but the caramel apple tart was a miss.
Definitely not somewhere you go every day but for an anniversary dinner it was very nice. The food was top notch. Only complaint was a $30 corkage fee and they did not have any champagne by the glass other than the owners own sparking rose'. We had the Waygu Beef and the Scallops, all delicious. Tried their bread, oysters, and potatoes confit also, also delicious.
The food here was very good. During covid, they are required to serve outdoors. This made the experience a bit different and not quite as nice as it may have been. We cannot wait to go back after covid and have the entire experience in the dining room.
Everything was unbelievable!! We went for our Anniversary and our waitress Alana was exceptional and the food was excellent wonderful and AMAZING!! It was our first time at a Michelin Star restaurant and the entire experience was beautiful! We will most definitely recommend your restaurant to everyone!!! The butternut squash soup and tortellini was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten!! My Waygu tenderloin was phenomenal!!

Dinner was absolutely delicious! The ambiance was warm and inviting, extremely cozy for our dinner date. I cannot say enough about the staff... they were extremely attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. First & Oak will be on our future list when we visit Solvang!

I had high expectations based on the seemingly creative menu photos and stellar reviews. Service was very good. The outdoor tables have plexiglass partitions and standing heaters for cold evenings. But the food looks much better in photos than in reality. The creative menu fails in execution by taste. The tastes were quite disappointing from appetizers to dessert. Also way overpriced. Two scallops were smaller than the photo shows so soon I found there was only pasta left which didn’t taste good by itself.
The kimchi, such wings and avocado butter are amazing! Love how the chef thought out of the box for these.

Lovely atmosphere, though outdoor dining is right on the sidewalk. We appreciated the heat lamps, but there was no coverage when it started to sprinkle.
The food was truly exquisite, but unfortunately the portion sizes are so small it's a cliche.
Overall, very pleasant and delicious, just best to know what you're signing up for - small portions and outdoor dining is not exactly secluded or protected.
