Firestone's Culinary Tavern, opened in 1999, is located in downtown Frederick's picturesque Historic District. It is housed in a 1921 building that was initially the home of Shipley's Department Store. The restaurant combines outstanding cuisine with the casual atmosphere of a neighborhood tavern. The Washington Post says, "the atmosphere is prime...the food is, too!".

Firestone's Ratings and Reviews
Firestone's is always reliable for great food and service. The chef is constantly trying new ideas, while holding on to menu favorites. Both fish and meats are expertly cooked. Three of us on this visit had Wagyu flat iron steaks that were wonderful. The availability of some fresh seafood (eg: oysters, ceviche, tuna) from the next door Raw Bar is a bonus, as is the very nice fairly-priced wine list.
Haven't been to Firestone's for several years. Decided to meet some friends for dinner on a Friday night. Table was ready immediately, wait staff came to the table with water and menus as soon as seated. Great table upstairs right by the window with a view to the street below. However, immediately noticed the noise from the bar below and remembered that was one of the reasons we don't typically dine here. At one point, it was so loud I felt like we were screaming to our friends to have a conversation. That being said, the food to amazing. We had the rockfish, scallops, bone-in pork shank, and duck breast for the 4 entrees --each one beautifully presented and perfectly prepared. Our waiter was attentive but overly so.
We shared a dessert - yummy creme brulee. Would definitely eat here again, but would probably avoid a busy Friday night at 7:30pm.
I am becoming a regular at Firestone's and have found both the food and the service to be exceptional. The quality of the cuisine (and the drinks!), the extensive beer and wine list, and the comfortable atmosphere have made it a definite go-to place in Frederick for me. The staff is also top-notch, from the maître d' to the service staff, and all are friendly and welcoming without being over-the-top or cloying. If you haven't dined there yet, put it on your list!
We were celebrating my daughter's 21 st birthday . We were seated promptly at 5 pm . My daughter was thrilled to find that her menu had been personalized . It read" Happy 21st birthday " . What a fantastic pleasant surprises . Our sever was fantastic . He was funny , polite , he had amazing timing and made us feel speacial . I would recommend celebrating your birthday @ Firestones
It is so rare when an established eatery tries harder. FIRESTONE'S is one of that rare breed. Wonderful presentation of every menu item. Loved their current hangar steak and pan-seared scallops. Only criticism...something has happened to the bread...dry and tasteless on our most recent visit. Service was outstanding.
The menu was terrific and the service was good. Only negative was a snafu in the kitchen that caused our entrees to be late and dried out. The management comped our first round of drinks as an apology, but it was a damper on the evening. We would try them again if we were in the area. Maybe for lunch instead though.
Always reliable food and service. Ask for Michael, he's the best: attentive, fun and a real gentleman.
Ambiance is marked three stars only because of the noise level: real tin ceiling, masonry walls, jazz trio make conversation difficult during Sunday brunch. Disclosure: I have a hearing impairment.
New on the bruch menu: Eggs Cooper. Think Eggs Benedict but with sausage ragout on a homemade biscuit. I was doubtful, but was pleasantly surprised.
Had a very good lunch despite somewhat cheeky waiter; would have been even better with dessert, but after bringing dessert menus, waiter failed to return for very long time. We had decided on two desserts, but after waiting 10 minutes, we decided to split one, and after another 5-10 minutes, we decided to just get the check and leave. Ironic that server spent more time flirting with young women at nearby tables than being attentive to older diners who probably would have left a much better tip with good service.
I had made my reservation through Open Table and asked for a table overlooking Market Street. The table was just what I had asked for. We met friends there and were not rushed to put in our order while we reconnected. The food was tasty and the service was great. Have been to Firestone's several times and have never been disappointed.
I had indicated that it was my birthday, but I had not reminded them and when I did finally remind them they said it was too late because I had already received my check. On the menu it said one and a half pound lobster which is what I ordered and when it came I said this is not a one and A half pound lobster, and she said that's the way we serve it. It was very tasty, but it was not a one and a half pound lobster. I complained again and she asked if I wanted to see the sous chef, and I said yes. When he came out he said I should've said something earlier and they could've given me something else to eat and that they weigh them when they come in . I told him that I eat lobster often and that this was definitely not a one and a half pound lobster. He asked if I wanted something else. I had already eaten, but I told him I didn't think it was right for them to have one description on the menu and another when the actual food came. Their attitude left much to be desired, And I would not return to that restaurant.
We went to Firestones for our first date night out after having a baby, we were late as people with newborns tend to be but they were very accommodating and understanding to our late arrival for our reservation. Very attentive server who answered all our questions about the menu and wine. We received a complimentary small bite and palate cleansing sorbet between courses. Our entrees were delicious my husband had the lobster and I had the braised lamb. Not a bite left on either plate! While plates were promptly cleared from our table at no point did I feel rushed. It was a lovely Friday evening and meal.
First time, we will be back. The food offers unique twists on classics. The Mac and cheese was fantastic as was the crab cake and black bass my husband had. The chefs tasting and sorbet between courses was an elegant and delightful touch in a casual atmosphere.
This was our fifth dinner at Firestone. Every meal has been superb. We drive up from northern Virginia and have been there for birthdays, anniversaries, and to meet OOT friends, all of whom were impressed. It's also easy to get to, easy to park, and beats driving into DC. Frederick is an attractive town, and Firestone is one of its best draws.
Been coming here for years - always good! The only suggestion is to put something white or lights horizontal on the black stairs - not good for people with poor depth perception and difficult to descend. Love this place, though!!
Had a great date! The food and cocktails were excellent, and the service was outstanding. It did get a bit loud during peak dinner time, but that's the nature of the open space. Window tables offer fun people-watching on Market Street. The charcuterie plate was amazing! Local ingredients and a generous portion. Very fun!
When we visit Frederick from the DC area, we like to try new restaurants. Even though Firestone's has been around for awhile, this was our first visit. We had a table on the mezzanine and enjoyed watching the patrons below. We shared a tasty green salad but found the highlight of the meal was the entrees. My husband enjoyed the lamb roulade and I was delighted by my serving of seared halibut on pesto risotto. Each dish was composed of fresh ingredients and was attractively presented. The service was friendly and skillful. We will return to this restaurant!
Firestone's has an eye to quality like few restaurants do these days. I ordered the lamb roulade for the second time and it was equally delicious each time, though the first time was slightly more tender, this may be due to the natural variation in meats. The deviled egg trio is always a fave and I enjoy their seasonal salads such as the watermelon and prosciutto or heirloom tomato which are always properly chilled. The truffle fries are a decadent indulgenre of carbs that border on comfort food when served hot n fresh. I prefer to come during quieter times because the bar area can get loud and echo throughout. My waiter Tyler was very attentive and helpful as has been another, Alice, previously. I rarely need to add salt or pepper to my food here which is a testament to how well they season it. Now for the sad news. The desserts are an afterthought and entirety forgettable. They sound good on paper but are not strongly executed. This is the case at most restaurants these days sadly. Overall, I am pleased to dine here and that says a lot as I am very particular. I will continue to visit often.
