Firestone's Culinary Tavern, opened in 1999, is located in downtown Frederick's picturesque Historic District. It is housed in a 1921 building that was initially the home of Shipley's Department Store. The restaurant combines outstanding cuisine with the casual atmosphere of a neighborhood tavern. The Washington Post says, "the atmosphere is prime...the food is, too!".

Firestone's Ratings and Reviews
We love Firestones. It's the perfect blend of casual and elegant. Wonderful, creative food that's not overdone. Great wine list. Be sure to go early for an aperitif and some oysters at their little raw bar next door to the restaurant, and stop by their gourmet shop afterward to get something lovely to take home.
Had a wonderful meal here. Made reservations to sit in the upstairs window. With the Christmas Lights in the trees, it was very festive. Would recommend making sure you get one of those tables for extra ambiance. Server was friendly. Loved the asparagus soup given as a taste before the meal came out. Very nice touch. I ordered the Duo of Duck, and it was the best duck dish I have had. Both versions of the duck were tasty without being gamey at all. The polenta and celeriac complemented the duck perfectly. The brussel sprouts however were a little underdone for my liking. Overall very delicious though. Wife had the tomato and goat cheese gnocchi. The gnocchi were so soft and light. Melted in your mouth with a wonderful complementing sauce. Very romantic evening. Will absolutely return.
Lovely view of old-town from the upstairs tables! I had the BBQ pulled pork sandwich and was surprised how amazingly tasty it was- not too sweet like regular BBQ, and very tender and moist pork. Also the fries were top-notch, which is So important! I went with a friend and can't wait to take my husband back there! Also thanks to the patient staff who kept our table even though we were running late. Staff were very attentive and friendly.
Once a year, my group of childhood friends meets for lunch. We always look for a restaurant with a good menu, ambience and a quiet corner where we can converse and linger over our meal. Firestone fit the bill. We had a great time and the food was delicious.
Firestone's is always reliable for great food and service. The chef is constantly trying new ideas, while holding on to menu favorites. Both fish and meats are expertly cooked. Three of us on this visit had Wagyu flat iron steaks that were wonderful. The availability of some fresh seafood (eg: oysters, ceviche, tuna) from the next door Raw Bar is a bonus, as is the very nice fairly-priced wine list.
Haven't been to Firestone's for several years. Decided to meet some friends for dinner on a Friday night. Table was ready immediately, wait staff came to the table with water and menus as soon as seated. Great table upstairs right by the window with a view to the street below. However, immediately noticed the noise from the bar below and remembered that was one of the reasons we don't typically dine here. At one point, it was so loud I felt like we were screaming to our friends to have a conversation. That being said, the food to amazing. We had the rockfish, scallops, bone-in pork shank, and duck breast for the 4 entrees --each one beautifully presented and perfectly prepared. Our waiter was attentive but overly so.
We shared a dessert - yummy creme brulee. Would definitely eat here again, but would probably avoid a busy Friday night at 7:30pm.
First time here. I felt like I had walked back in time to the farmhouse of my youth - heavy wood, pressed tin ceiling, large banister stairs, and squeaky floors. I instantly fell in love with the low lit memory. I was escorted upstairs and shown to a table by the window overlooking the street. I deeply hoped that the food matched the mood. I was not disappointed.
Along with a very dry glass of Riesling, I enjoyed fresh-baked herb-crusted bread (very light) and a small crock of potato soup. The main course was four dollar-sized scallops on a bed of quinoa and asparagus with a mildly spicy sauce to keep it interesting. On the side was a surprise slice of fried prosciutto.
That little tidbit showed up again with my creme brulee, making a fascinating sweet and sour combo that I would definitely go back for.
It's a bit pricey compared to other restaurants in town but the chef's inventions are worth it. Portion size also is quite favorable. So I will definitely be back for another adventure soon.
My server was knowledgeable, attentive, friendly, and very well trained.
I am becoming a regular at Firestone's and have found both the food and the service to be exceptional. The quality of the cuisine (and the drinks!), the extensive beer and wine list, and the comfortable atmosphere have made it a definite go-to place in Frederick for me. The staff is also top-notch, from the maître d' to the service staff, and all are friendly and welcoming without being over-the-top or cloying. If you haven't dined there yet, put it on your list!
We were celebrating my daughter's 21 st birthday . We were seated promptly at 5 pm . My daughter was thrilled to find that her menu had been personalized . It read" Happy 21st birthday " . What a fantastic pleasant surprises . Our sever was fantastic . He was funny , polite , he had amazing timing and made us feel speacial . I would recommend celebrating your birthday @ Firestones
It is so rare when an established eatery tries harder. FIRESTONE'S is one of that rare breed. Wonderful presentation of every menu item. Loved their current hangar steak and pan-seared scallops. Only criticism...something has happened to the bread...dry and tasteless on our most recent visit. Service was outstanding.
The menu was terrific and the service was good. Only negative was a snafu in the kitchen that caused our entrees to be late and dried out. The management comped our first round of drinks as an apology, but it was a damper on the evening. We would try them again if we were in the area. Maybe for lunch instead though.
Always reliable food and service. Ask for Michael, he's the best: attentive, fun and a real gentleman.
Ambiance is marked three stars only because of the noise level: real tin ceiling, masonry walls, jazz trio make conversation difficult during Sunday brunch. Disclosure: I have a hearing impairment.
New on the bruch menu: Eggs Cooper. Think Eggs Benedict but with sausage ragout on a homemade biscuit. I was doubtful, but was pleasantly surprised.
Had a very good lunch despite somewhat cheeky waiter; would have been even better with dessert, but after bringing dessert menus, waiter failed to return for very long time. We had decided on two desserts, but after waiting 10 minutes, we decided to split one, and after another 5-10 minutes, we decided to just get the check and leave. Ironic that server spent more time flirting with young women at nearby tables than being attentive to older diners who probably would have left a much better tip with good service.
I had made my reservation through Open Table and asked for a table overlooking Market Street. The table was just what I had asked for. We met friends there and were not rushed to put in our order while we reconnected. The food was tasty and the service was great. Have been to Firestone's several times and have never been disappointed.
I had indicated that it was my birthday, but I had not reminded them and when I did finally remind them they said it was too late because I had already received my check. On the menu it said one and a half pound lobster which is what I ordered and when it came I said this is not a one and A half pound lobster, and she said that's the way we serve it. It was very tasty, but it was not a one and a half pound lobster. I complained again and she asked if I wanted to see the sous chef, and I said yes. When he came out he said I should've said something earlier and they could've given me something else to eat and that they weigh them when they come in . I told him that I eat lobster often and that this was definitely not a one and a half pound lobster. He asked if I wanted something else. I had already eaten, but I told him I didn't think it was right for them to have one description on the menu and another when the actual food came. Their attitude left much to be desired, And I would not return to that restaurant.
We went to Firestones for our first date night out after having a baby, we were late as people with newborns tend to be but they were very accommodating and understanding to our late arrival for our reservation. Very attentive server who answered all our questions about the menu and wine. We received a complimentary small bite and palate cleansing sorbet between courses. Our entrees were delicious my husband had the lobster and I had the braised lamb. Not a bite left on either plate! While plates were promptly cleared from our table at no point did I feel rushed. It was a lovely Friday evening and meal.
