FireLake Grill House Downtown Minneapolis Ratings and Reviews
We were staying at the hotel and came for breakfast which was excellent. Waitress was particularly careful with my husband's nut allergy and had the griddle cleaned from the maple pecan pancakes before our gluten-free lemon ricotta pancakes were cooked. These were served with creamy ricotta and lovely orange marmalade and strawberries. Blueberries would have been better, but strawberries just fine. Would order again. There were so many tempting things on the menu that it was hard to choose. We will return.
The walleye continues to be great, the prime rib was nicely done, the popovers very good, and the soups and salads were excellent. However, we were the the Sunday after Thanksgiving, for dinner, and the service had much to be desired. Additionally, if you are going for something specific you see on the online menu call to make sure they still have it; apparently the online menu is not always up to date. Even with those issues, we will still go back.
My friend and I were both staying in town for Thanksgiving, even though our families were out of state. We found FireLake Grill House on a list of restaurants that were serving Thanksgiving. It was a great meal, the server was so friendly and after the Traditional Thanksgiving meal, the waiter brought out turkey sanwhiches for “leftovers”. Would definitely go there again for Thanksgiving and other occasions!
The meal, for mine, was so so. I was expecting more burger options as the online menu indicated so. There are 5 burgers online and only two of them were on the menu last night. Neither of which were the ones I had my mind set on. I ordered the angry bison burger and while it looked to be cooked as I asked (medium rare) there wasn't a lot of flavor and it tasted dry.
We also ordered the grazing platter... Again ingredients were different than what was listed online.
I wouldn't have selected this restaurant if the menu was listed correctly. A little too of the beaten path.
We had a 25th anniversary party with my maid and matron of honor and their spouses. We let the waitress know we would be lingering and conversing and that we were in no hurry to rush the night. She accommodated and did a wonderful job- from an appetizer suggestion to our wonderful entrees - she also brought an assortment of tasty desserts to share and re-heated my coffee that came a bit too cool.
We had a wonderful night and we so enjoyed it, that we returned on Sunday for brunch - just my husband and me. We enjoyed our meal again and the mimosas as well!
We'd come back!
The décor updated in last couple of years and with that update they removed the warm/comfortable and upscale feel of the dining area. The chairs were probably the most uncomfortable chairs they could have selected. Worse than the chairs was the service. After arriving and escorted by host, we sat at least 10 minutes after arrival before anyone greeted us at table. The server disappeared for long blocks of time. I used to love the Fire Lake Grill but now we will not be back.
The overall experience was horrible. The food was worse than going to McDonald's. The entire staff was sub par. Ordered the Bison burger, it was horrible. I took 2 bites and pushed it away. Our server asked how everything was, I said not good. She said sorry. The manager walked by our table at least a dozen times seeing my food almost untouched. She never came over until the very end, and said, we took that off your bill. We will never eat there again. So much for a romantic dinner out with my wife.
There were 3 of us and in order to try various meals we ordered 3 entree's and shared family style. Worked very well. Portions were large enough to do that and everything tasted really good. The service was timely and the wait staff very friendly. Would definitely recommend.
We had a terrific evening ! Love where we were seated at the long table against the wall. It was quieter for hard of hearing person in our group. The food was excellent with no surprises. Everyone was happy with their choice. Just delicious and good service. We will be back
I've not been to this location and thought I'd take a new employee here on his first day. We were seated promptly when we arrived at a table close to the open kitchen. The wait staff attended to us in a timely and friendly manner. I ordered a vegi burger that is made here with chips, also made on-site. My employee ordered a burger with fries. They where both very good - enough to fill us up but not too much that we'd be tired the rest of the day. I'll definitely return.
This was an incredibly disappointing experience. We went onto Yelp to find this place - it was my husband and I's anniversary and we wanted to go somewhere nice that had great food. We were ambushed by belligerent guests, the food was no where NEAR the value they price it at and my husband had what he calls "The worst steak of his entire life". Needless to say, we will not be returning ever and my trust in Yelp is now coming into question.
We selected this restaurant based solely on location -- near theatre but were very very happy with service and the meal. The food was excellent , the cocktails really good and the service was extraordinary. Honestly we wished we were not running off to see a show because we were enjoying ourselves so much. The place was packed with families, business diners and clearly some hotel guest but we didn't feel rushed at all.
Will definately select again when we are in downtown Mpls... was a very nice surprise.
Very good waitress named Wendy! She was attentive and when asked about what she would recommend she sold us on the food and drinks they had. There were others who came after we did and we waited a longer time for food after they all got theirs. The food was amazing though and the place had a nice classy modern vibe!
The menu and rating made this seem like a good option. But the menu descriptions did not match the food. Seemed like diner quality (we ordered seafood and roast chicken). It wasn't very notable. And further the restaurant is a hotel-lobby restaurant. The restaurant restrooms were the hotel lobby restrooms. Only go there if you're snowed in and don't want to walk the skyways to a better restaurant.
Good and not so much.
Husband had the wild rice walleye entree and it was fabulous. I had the smoked trout salad and was disappointed. Said it was with some sort of field greens. They were actually a garnish. Could have been served with crackers as an app. Trout itself had that slightly gassy "liquid smoke" taste, which was not to my liking.
Lastly, don't bother with the popovers. Ours were still quite cold on the inside. Guess they did not heat them long enough in the microwave.
We will go back for the wild rice walleye though.
