Every time we go here the food and service is always excellent. Tonight we dined on the rear patio, which was quite pleasant because it is away from the street.
Service started great, then slowed dramatically. Took 20+ minutes from the time the waiter left the check for him to pick up my credit card. Luckily we weren’t in a rush.
We found Firefly good but not impressive. Food was ok, not innovative. Service was slightly inattentive, the room is pedestrian. While the meal was not a failure, we probably won’t be back.
I feel bad sticking a nail in this restaurant's coffin but...Went here on a Saturday night at prime time and it was basically empty. It never filled up. It's a very attractive space but it felt sad. Waiter was fine but seemed to have a little attitude. Seemed to to want to rush us along even though no one was there. Food was ok. Not bad. But the prices are more in line with a NYC restaurant so the food wasn't good enough to justify that.
I've wanted to try this place for a long time based on the look of of it and the menu. I'm disappointed it was not what I hoped. Don't expect it to stick around and I won't be back.
Was very good the first time we dined here so we returned with friends. Quality was lacking the second time. Risotto did not have the same wonderful taste, some appetizers were bland, although the beet salad was very good, the steak was so-so, but the chicken was good. Restaurant was only 25% full so it couldn't have been a stress on the kitchen.
I really enjoy small places. My server was a little bit of a stickler and i wish a bit more flexible when asking for a pretzel bun vs whatever but I had to have.??? Other then that, nice place.
A very nice neighborhood dining spot. Entrees are limited but very good. Wine list is adequate. I've eaten here a number of times. There were a couple of noisy tables that made hearing difficult but that is the exception not the rule.
Waited for a long time to get order taken. No acknowledgement by waiter. We ordered cocktails which the seemed to forget until reminded.
The menu on the web site is out of date. They don’t have any of the items on the menu. We were the only people in the whole place. I’ll never go back there.
The server said many items on the menu had changed and it was only 7 pm. The outdoor garden is nice . The chicken was just ok Nd was priced too high
Excellent food and attentive service. One of our favorite neighborhood places!
My salmon had way too much salt. I could not finish it. It was awful. The rest of the dish was flavorful.
My parter had chips with her meal and also said the salt was way too much. She had the pulled pork and it was messy and she had to eat it with a fork and knife.
The waiter had a difficult time explaining dishes including what the bbq sauce was in the pulled pork sandwich
Easily one of the worst meals I've ever had. Took a friend there for a birthday brunch. She ordered a salad and it was so bad she didn't touch it after 2 bites. We were both disappointed. Our first clue that it probably wasn't going to be good was that it was empty at 11am on a Sunday. Good breakfast spots are packed at that hour. Go somewhere else.
The food was very good - Risotto was excellent. But it was very noisy even though it was only 80% full.
Food was delicious. Service was excellent. Nice atmosphere. Would recommend it!
Our waiter was exceptional. He gave us lots of attention, helped us choose the right drinks, and answered questions about the menu. The meal came without delay. Our food was delicious! We will definitely return.
Really creative drink list, friendly service, great food
Cute place. However, they must have been short-staffed. Sat for about 20m before anyone even noticed us. We never really had a waiter - just used the person floating by. Food was average/good; nothing special and bland. Tried Firefly 2yrs and left feeling the same, just blah.
Our table had the mushroom risotto..was very good. We added chicken for protein. One diner at our table and the pork shank...was way to dry for him.
There was a draft where we were sitting and it was quite cold.
Made reservations for a group of six women on a Friday night. After being seated right away, no one acknowledged us or came by the table for a good 15 minutes. The small dining room was pretty full yet they seemed to be short staffed and didn't have a bartender. Once we finally ordered a round of Moscow Mules, we were given vodka with soda, no ginger beer. When we inquired about the lack of the main ingredient, the manager (who was also acting as bartender) told us it was a watered down version since he mixed club soda in it. Turns out, later in the evening he admitted they were actually out of ginger beer -- which was a main ingredient in most of the mixed cocktails on the menu. He never once apologized or acknowledged that he not only tried to get one over on us, but lied about it. Thankfully the food turned out to be decent but we will never return. We closed the place down at 9 pm on a Friday...as the staff stood there waiting for us to leave.
Very slow service. Food was plain. Could use more flavor. Tiny restaurant we were on top of table next to us.
Firely is our "go to"neighborhood restaurant. The cocktails are the best! The appetizers and entrees are interesting and tasty. Offerings are updated seasonally. My favorites are the fig appetizer, poached pear salad and the truffle mushroom risotto. I will definitely go again.
Saturday night I discovered one of the worst restaurants in the Chicagoland area. I bestow this honor to Firefly in Wilmette. Maybe it was the weather, but it was obvious from the start the help didn’t want to be there. From the overly salty artichoke dip, the raw in the middle scallops which by the way tasted like they came out of the Chicago River, to the shoe leather and tasteless hanger steak the meal was beyond appalling. The one star is for the waiter taking the scallop entree off the bill. With so many restaurants on the Northshore their is no need to give this another try. Never again!
The decor is just missing something. Feels a little cold, particularly the floor. Candles on tables maybe?
The crispy pork shank is NOT fork tender.
Completely impersonal “maitre d” (too fancy a word for him) started the evening off poorly. But more disappointing was the food. The date appetizer was good, but the bread served with it was so-so. Soup was not hot and waiter was huffy when we asked to have it warmed up. Entrees were very so-so (risotto and black bean burger). Apple tart dessert was delicious. We were celebrating a special anniversary and had picked this restaurant because of reviews - but we were very disappointed.
My husband and I visited Fire Fly for Sunday brunch. Upon entering , we were greeted immediately with a smile and given the option to sit near the window. The waiter really knows the menu as well as the wine and cocktail list. His recommendations were spot on. We really enjoyed the Moscow mule beverage and the homemade Turkey breakfast sausages. Yum ! I'm still dreaming about the lemon ricotta pancakes. Can't wait to return !
4 of us for dinner. We started with a shrimp avocado toast that nicely presented and very tasty. For entrees we selected the scallops, skirt steak, and a pear salad. The scallops were a picture to behold. Our waiter Danny was very pleasant and helpful
It is always consistently good. We really enjoy eating there.
Delicious food, a very chill atmosphere, and good drink options make this a no brainer for anyone looking for a relaxing night out. Highly recommended; lamb meatballs, burata, and the crispy pork.
It took us ages to figure out what to order because everything on the menu looked so good. We ended up ordering five dishes for two people (way too much food, I know, but we couldn't decide!) Good cocktail and wine list, just a really great place to go out and have dinner. If you haven't been- you are missing out. Duck fat French fries with herbs cured me of my nostalgia for Hot Dougs.
I thought the food was great but it was strange that they ran out of chicken and lamb meatballs and coke. I get that they are trying to keep things fresh and constantly changing menu but it’s unfortunate if you eat there later in the night that they run out of main items.
Initially, we waited 20 minutes to have our drink order taken. Also, we were disappointed when we asked for a simple request (to combine our fries and chips onto one plate that could then be placed in the center of the table to be shared) and was told that the kitchen was busy with a private party upstairs. They did honor this request, but we were put off by being told that really a private party took precedence over our table - especially for such a simple thing. The food was fine and our waiter seemed to sense our frustration and tried to make up for it. We were just under impressed with the whole thing.
Had a great dinner at Firefly- there were so many delicious starters on the menu that it was hard to decide what to order. The black fig starter was superb - really nice flavor combinations. Service was very attentive and welcoming. We will definitely go back.
I don’t know why more people aren’t going there. Easy parking, interesting menu, great food, convenient location.
The Lobster Scramble and Smoked Pastrami Salmon Benedict were delicious, as were our drinks. Unfortunately, whether by plan or accident, one very busy waiter ran as fast as he could to serve the entire dining room. He succeeded amazingly well but we would have enjoyed more coffee and a little more attention.
Great meal, nice wine selection.
VERY EARLY crowd though... place emptied out by 8:30.
Great choice if you need last minute dinner reservations on a Saturday night at 7!
The pork shank was fantastic. We’ve been here maybe 4-5 times, but this was our best meal yet.
We started with two appetizers, the figs with blue cheese and bacon and the shrimp spring rolls. The flavors were delicious and everything was really fresh. We also ordered the mushroom risotto with skirt steak, the salmon with faro and the buffalo chicken with blue cheese sauce.
We were all pleased with our meals. We will go back again.
It was delicious. It is pricey but the food is excellent and service was very good. I’ve been there when it was crowded and a bit slow - but it wasn’t this time. It is really a neighborhood gem.
