Oh, you wanted a restaurant description? Sorry. Can’t really help you there. We’re not so big on labels. Our food is hard to nail down as we are constantly evolving and entirely seasonal and personal. We’ve used “Food you eat” as a tag line on occasion and that remains accurate. We could also describe it as “Food we really want you to eat”. When you’re here, tell us what you would call it.

Firefly has been one of my all time favorite restaurants since 2004 when we moved to Noe Valley. I have been for years and years and always had an amazing experience. This time did not disappoint. In fact, it was even better than my memories. I also took someone who has just moved here from China. She asked for a place that felt like quintessential SF.
Firefly NEVER disappoints....They are ALWAYS on top of their Game.
Fantastic food, great service. Safe outdoor dining with heater. My gluten intolerant friend was a happy camper. My favorite Noe Valley restaurant.
Always my favorite special occasion restaurant! The best service, consistently delicious food. Outdoor seating is cozy.
We had a fantastic dinner at this neighborhood gem. The dishes are creative without being pretentious. The portions are generous as well. Delicious!
My first visit in about 10 years. While the food was good, the service was a vast improvement from long ago. Service was excellent! We both had the fried chicken. I wasn't crazy about the skin (too well-cooked for me), but the meat was juicy and hot. The mashed potatoes were perfect, and I passed on the beans (I'm not a bean guy) and I liked the biscuit - not too dry. My companion loved everything about her meal - beans and all (including the gravey). I had the brownie for dessert - great brownie and not too much caramel sauce. My companion had the black rice thing and judged it as excellent. My tea was awful - very weak. Service was just wonderful. The primary waitperson was pleasant, personable, funny, and attentive without being overbearing. Her backup was great, as well. Even the maitre d upon entry and exit was wonderful. The downside was the ambience: we were seated between two larger tables of 4 and they were filled with women on a girls night out?? Who knows, but it was way too noisy to have a conversation. Just bad luck in choosing that particular table. Otherwise, enjoyed the food and the service.
Great food, friendly service. Can’t wait to go back!
It always has been and always will be the best! Thank you!
We love their menu. It is gluten-free heaven on a plate!! Absolutely oustanding and unique menu options full of interesting texture and flavor!! It's a popular place; there is a parklette; and it gets a bit hectic -- so one needs to just relax and wait a bit. It's a pretty casual, funky environment so nothing unnecessarily fancy. Outdoor dining is safer and convenient with a dog but not as cozy or atmospheric as inside. They rock it overall with all the challenges presented with the times. Kudos to all!!!
I've only had outstanding food and service at Firefly. Our recent visit yet again showed us why this is the best restaurant in the 24th Street SF business corridor. Their outdoor seating is surprisingly cozy and warm. The food was delicious.
They had a special menu for Rosh Hashanah. Very cool.
Absolutely excellent service, food, setting.
The waitress was wonderfully knowledgeable and really charming.
Extraordinary in every way from the charm and grace of the service to the complex flavors in every dish. Surprising and delightful. Eat here now.
The appetizers/small plates and salad that was recommended by our server were outstanding with incredible flavor. We had a fairly long pause between our appetizers and main courses which is fine. However, our main courses were lukewarm to warm. Lukewarm seafood stew and just warm fried chicken and mac & cheese is a bit disappointing.....great flavors, maybe they were left out and we were forgotten for a bit? Definitely going to return. First time that everything was not 5-star.
Loved it as always.
A wonderful meal on a family trip to SF. One of our party is Celiac (gluten allergy) and the menu is nearly entirely gluten free, except for the biscuits. Best meal we had all week! Will definitely return on our next trip out here.
This is our favorite neighborhood restaurant. It was a bit cold inside the restaurant as they kept the doors open to keep fresh air blowing into the dining area. But during COVID, this is perfectly ok. To enter the restaurant, they check on your vaccination status - so be prepared to bring your ID and CDC vaccination proof with you. The food, the main reason to go there, is outstanding.
Great vegan options, everything was super delicious. Hidden gem
We love this place, and often come especially for special occasions. Last night we were a bit disappointed, as no mention was made of my husband's birthday -- the main reason for our visit.
This is a lesser-known neighborhood gem in Noe. Went for a small anniversary celebration. Given the adjustments for Covid, this was really great. Was unable to book a table outdoors, but after leaving a message got a return call that an outdoor table was free at the time we wanted. Intimate setting, felt safe, diners and staff all seem happy just to be able to be there and dine in something resembling normalcy. Great recommendations from servers: flatbread, peach/tomato salad and trout all delicious, and the green salad was perfectly dressed. A celebratory sparkly candle in the creme brulee was a thoughtful finishing touch.
Ultimate Noe Valley experience . The staff is incredible and the food is out of this world. It is expensive so when you need to splurge this is the place to go. There are fancier places to eat but this feel very relaxed. You won't find a nicer staff or better food. This is officially now my favorite restaurant.
Incredible food. Amazing staff. Great ambiance even at the parklet. A true gem
Phenomenal food and exceptional service! Already planning our next visit!
This is a great date or special occasion spot in Noe Valley
Lovely outdoor seating, great service and fun wine list.
Gluten free birthday
Loved the variety of menu options. The fusion of different cuisines was week executed. Loved the food, everything was very good. Will definitely go back.
I've literally been going to Firefly since the night they opened, lo those many years ago. It is among my favorite restaurants in the Bay Area and I am so happy that they are still around and still operating at the same level of quality that they have been known for. My companion was Vegan, I'm a meat eater and we were both thrilled with our food, the atmosphere and the wonderful level of hospitality and service that Firefly always exhibits.
The food was amazing - good flavors and unique dishes. The service did not disappoint. Highly recommend.
Wonderful service as always and the chefs do an amazing job 🙌
I’ve been eating at firefly for over 20 years. I’ve never had a bad meal or bad service there. Firefly gets my highest rating.
really fantastic. wonderful food, great caring staff.
This might be my favorite restaurant in SF — phenomenal food and service. My wife has celiac and 95% of the menu is gluten-free. The fact that they make home-made dog treats is icing on the cake.
Flawless food and service as always!
The food was so delicious. Amazing flavors. Outdoor dining experience very comfortable. Staff attentive and friendly.
I found this wonderful restaurant on some blog when I was looking up where to eat after our day in the city. We decided on Firefly and so glad we did! At first I was skeptical, we went right as it opened. It was quiet, everyone greeted us as we walked in. We sat down and ordered street corn, tostones, and Brazilian cheese balls. Delicious is an understatement, i could eat here every anniversary. We also had the fried chicken which my bf said was the “best fried chicken he’s ever had”. Which is a huge compliment from him! So yummy! And then had to order the brownie for dessert. It was delicious!!! Definitely recommending to friends and family and can’t wait to come back here soon!!
I am a regular at Firefly, have only been eating outside since they have reopened, but everything about the dining experience is outstanding. I can't wait for my next meal there.
Such great food (very GF friendly) and excellent service!
We celebrate our anniversary there. I’m vegan, he’s not, and Firefly had something for both of us. Highly recommend the peanut butter cookie sandwich!
The atmosphere and service was lovely. They’ve reserved us a nice and cozy corner that we had requested and we were very pleased. We live in the neighborhood and we like Firefly for its quiet location and European ambiance. The meals were beautifully presented. The main course was fine, the appetizers were on the salty side, which is sadly the case in most restaurants. The servers were polite and attentive. We were able to taste the wine before picking one, even though we didn’t order a bottle and it was only a glass. I thought it was generous of them. They would nicely ask before taking your plates away but it was still rather quick. Compared to most restaurants it was a slower pace which we prefer. I think the atmosphere and service was the best thing about the place.
