Oh, you wanted a restaurant description? Sorry. Can’t really help you there. We’re not so big on labels. Our food is hard to nail down as we are constantly evolving and entirely seasonal and personal. We’ve used “Food you eat” as a tag line on occasion and that remains accurate. We could also describe it as “Food we really want you to eat”. When you’re here, tell us what you would call it.
Great food and Molly was so helpful with all her suggestions.
Amazing food and service
Best salmon I've ever had! Service is excellent, friendly staff. The epitome of a neighborhood gem!
Service was courteous and attentive. Sweet potato tostones were well done. All entrees (lamb stew, fried chicken and salmon) seriously lacked seasoning despite having great ingredients. The roasted root vegetables were well done. $25.00 plus entrees should be better than average. Would have passed on this place but for getting a gift certificate. This experience will not bring us back. It just misses the mark.
We come here regularly, and in over a decade of visits, there’s only been one meal that was average. The food is always phenomenal, creative, delicious. Staff are always so friendly & down to earth. This is my go to place an San Francisco
Food delicious and innovative without being precious. The staff is one in a million, the service impeccable and warm.
Love the intimacy, the great service and food - and most of all how they are so gluten allergic friendly and have gluten free fried chicken! It’s the best whether you’re gluten free or not.
We had a fabulous dinner out with friends and just loved this neighborhood gem. Our server was awesome and highly knowledgeable throughout. The food was truly unique and every dish delighted, all the way through the sticky toffee dessert. We would absolutely return no one had their face buried in their phone and there was no needless chatter about Instagram.
For the most part the food was very good with the exception of the two desserts that we tried...the carrot cake was a disappointment and the combination for the grape and cocoanut sorbet just didn't work. The ambiance was very comfortable, but the noise level was too high (especially since a member of our party was hearing impaired), and wasn't able to hear much of the conversation. The staff was excellent and very helpful. We would certainly dine there again since we live in the neighborhood and generally the food is consistently good and they have an excellent wait staff.
What happened to Firefly? It used to be our favorite restaurant, but after the second disappointing dinner there, I doubt we'd ever return. The appetizers were fabulous, and kept our expectations high for the main course dinners, but they turned out to be costly and unpalatable. I would give 5 stars for the appetizaers and one-two for the main course.
This was a gem of a find, it was our first time going there. My wife and son are gluten free and they found the gluten free fried chicken to be outstanding. I found the menu to be interesting, I enjoyed some fantastic vegetarian enchiladas. My two daughters who are not gluten free also loved the GF fried chicken. The service was impeccable. It was my wife's birthday and Firefly was everything she had hoped for.
My son just moved to Noe Valley. Found Firefly on Yelp. I was looking for a restaurant that would accommodate his vegan girlfriend. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we really like the feel of the restaurant. I would recommend to friends.
I visited with my husband and family. We really enjoyed our meal, everything was very tasty. The only negative for me was that both of the vegetarian options were very spicy and this reduced the quality of the meal for me. Also we had a round table sort of in the middle of the restaurant, which wasn't very cosy and it was a little chilly. However the food was very good and we appreciated all of the gluten free options.
This place is always a winner. One of the most consistent restaurants in San Francisco.
Food was mediocre and the service was sub par.
From moment you walk in you can tell this restaurant is special.
From the friendly, professional yet relaxed service, to the delicious food there wasn’t a single glitch.
The ambiance was warm and cozy. There was nothing fussy about the food. But still the flavors layered and the choices varied.
We had the bread and spread, fried chicken, Brussels sprouts, a delicious salad and the chocolate cake with ice cream. All GLUTEN FREE! I don’t need to eat GF but my daughter does. We both loved every bite.
We’ll no doubt be back.
Delicious food, cozy ambiance, and lovely staff. It's always our go to for a special evening.
Always excellent food and wonderful service. Highly recommend
Our second time there. Wonderful meal, including appetizers and desserts, and delightful surroundings. A little noisy, but that’s inevitable with a happy, filled dining room. BTW, the first time we ate there we sat at the bar and had a great time talking to the bar server, Lydia.
Excellent food. Friendly service. Neighborhood gem.
Food was good, I just don't understand why the music has to be turned up so loud you can't talk with or hear your dining companions. Even when I asked the music to be turned down, it wasn't enough to make much of a difference. Otherwise, nice neighborhood place, charming, tasty.
Our favorite neighborhood restaurant!
Everyone who works there is not only professional but delightful!!!!!! Fried chicken is as wonderful as we got in NC!!!!! (and gluten free). We are not vegans or gluten free but we had a wonderful dinner there!!!!!! And our family member who is both had told us that we would find something wonderful to eat!!!!!
Great food and service.
All around fantastic, super yummy and super healthy food!
A very special neighborhood restaurant. Warm, charming with friendly and efficient service. The food was delicious, especially the cauliflower flatbread. A great selection of salads and fried chicken. I am going back for the desserts.
Delicious meal with excellent quality ingredients. Service was wonderful throughout, except long delay being greeted at table and very slow for ordering 1st drink. Restaurant was busy. Would like a few more clean, less rich entree options.
It is a wonderful neighborhood gem and always great!
Very nice experience. Firefly checks so many boxes. I would describe their food, service, ambiance as extremely thoughtful.
Firefly has been my "go to" restaurant in my neighborhood since it opened in 1993! Food is always delicious and excellently prepared. Another real plus is that they always have a vegan and a vegetarian dish and have gluten free options - very helpful for my many guests. The restaurant itself has that comfortable feeling, which makes it so enjoyable.
This is a great neighborhood spot for a date night. Excellent food with a diverse and seasonal menu.
Everything was perfect. Great food. Outstanding service and attention to detail. Highly recommended.
This was my 3rd visit to Firefly and it was wonderful. The staff is very attentive, nice, knowledgeable and perfect hosts. The drinks are excellent and the food very, very good. I had the chicken this time and it was good (I have had the pork chop before and would rate it better than the chicken). My wife had the Atlantic char and absolutely loved it. Also, by all means get either the arugula salad or daikon cakes with shiitake -- they are fantastic! The place itself is beautiful and though a little noisy, you will love it and the beautiful neighborhood in which Firefly resides!
Firefly is one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. The food is consistently delicious (and nearly all gluten free), the atmosphere is a rare throwback to the days when neighborhood restaurants were unique and heartfelt, and the service is incredibly friendly and professional. Of all the restaurants I've visited (and as a food writer for 30 years in SF, there are many), this one has a stronghold on my heart. Don't miss the flatbread and the s'more.
Like always, good & strange foods, a bit too much bean & kale & vegan themes, odd & unusual servers.
No owner Brad around at night too.
Room about 1/2 full on a Tues night.
One of the best restaurants in Noe Valley for many years, the Firefly serves delicious California cuisine in a cozy, welcoming neighborhood atmosphere. The staff is totally friendly and professional.
Alway a great experience. Always has been.
This is a great place for vegetarians. The food is always fantastic and the service is lovely. This is a great date spot or special occasion spot. Everything on the menu is curated perfectly. You can tell the chef truly wants everyone to have a great experience. One of the best restaurants in SF.
We live nearby and would love to love this place. Unfortunately, our one and only experience was not great.
Two of us dining, and In both of our meals, the sides were random and didn’t go together, for example my Arctic char came with black lentil hash, beets, and celery root cream. And, unfortunately the char arrived lukewarm.
The tostones (sweet potato fried nuggets) were great, the Acme bread and spread was so-so, like the service.
The music was puzzlingly random, from acoustic guitar folk, to classical, to punk. All nice tunes, but jarring to hear back-to-back and failed to create any kind of ambience or experience.
We really enjoyed the dinner - the service staff was excellent, and it is an attractive space, and of course the food was very good too.
