Oh, you wanted a restaurant description? Sorry. Can’t really help you there. We’re not so big on labels. Our food is hard to nail down as we are constantly evolving and entirely seasonal and personal. We’ve used “Food you eat” as a tag line on occasion and that remains accurate. We could also describe it as “Food we really want you to eat”. When you’re here, tell us what you would call it.
The food was very good. However the woman who was our wait person was not very friendly; in fact she seemed to be in a bad mood.
When I asked if they had Diet Coke she flipped over a menu and replied “if you look at the back of the menu you will see our drinks for people of all ages”.
She was not unfriendly with the other two people at my table, who unlike me are men, so maybe she has a problem with women of a certain age. But her attitude colored my experience. It is a fairly high priced meal to be insulted at the very beginning.
We have been to firefly restaurant a number of times. Their food is delicious, and their menu is always interesting we also love the ambience. We would definitely come back here.
We come here for family birthdays, and the three of us sit in the window. It works every time, and I really appreciate them giving us one of those tables. My son always gets the chicken and it's always perfect. I had the kale salad and it was awesome. It had bonus pomegranate seeds and was quite filling. I loved it. I hope they offer it in November when we return for my husband's birthday!
Delicious and varied savory food menu. Dessert was really not pleasant, unfortunately. Butterscotch banana pudding tasted fermented and creme fraiche overly sour.
We had a great experience with some old friends here on Saturday night. Loved the tostones, brussel sprouts and the daikon cakes. The delicata squash was quite tasty. I love when restaurants take time with their vegetarian options and this was clearly the case here. The fried chicken was also a hit. One of the guests in our party is gluten-free and the options for her were plentiful and delicious. We had a bottle of wine and brought a bottle for which they waived the corkage fee.
I wish Firefly was closer to where I live because I would be a regular!
Food is very expensive, but delicious.
Amazing restaurant, a neighborhood gem. Great service, ambiance and food.
They made me feel so comfortable and put me at ease since they know how to make excellent gluten free dishes!
Firefly is a jewel. Every point of our experience was delightful!
Good location, good food, friendly yet professional service
Food quality still remains high.
Still missing Brad’s famous fish/shrimp potstickers & other more traditional memorable apps.
Main BIG problem remains Service. Our young girl/woman server, tiny dark-haired, said she recently advanced from food runner to Server. She never brought the advertised “apples & honey” app, then forgot to order my wife’s main dish (yes the yummy Halibut) with the kitchen, and lastly forgot to bring any milk & sugar with yummy coffee, despite being told upon ORDERING it & re-told upon DELIVERING it. She “disappeared” without ever bringing them, so we flagged another nearby Server to help us.
My tip was a bit generous...oh well, I’m a nice guy I guess.
Or was it that I worked in a famous ice cream store that didn’t allow tips as a teen, ran a Italian pizza place in college that didn’t allow tips as well...
It was great!
A great dinner overall. The restaurant was very warm and inviting. Every dish was solid. There was a slight hiccup with our order because our waitress accidentally put the wrong entree order in. She made up for it thought when just a few short minutes after she realized the mistake, she came out with some comp'ed tostones to hold us over until the entree arrived. Highly recommended!
Delicious food, great service and nice ambiance.
We were a party of five and we all agreed that the food was good but the service was abysmal. None of us felt like we would go back. There are more than enough good restaurants in this city that there's no reason to put up with bad service. We will not be going back.
This has long been our neighborhood go to as quality and price point was always good. I have to say we were disappointed this time - the iconic fried chicken was undercooked, the batter tasted like Shake'n'Bake, and the other entrees lacked the special imaginative flourishes of flavor and presentation we've come to expect.
We love Firefly! Food is very good and the staff members are a model of collaboration at work. And we especially appreciate that it’s possible to hear each other talk!!
One of the best restaurants in SF. They never disappoint. And their beverage manager, Jay, is spectacular!
This place never disappoints. The food was great and the service was unmatched. 10/10 recommend.
Birthday Celebration. We were well taken care of. Highly recommendable from all angles
We loved our evening. The food was delicious and the service was fantastic. I eat out frequently and that was the best service I’ve experienced in a long time. The staff works well together and we didn’t feel rushed although it was a weekend evening. Our server Brie was kind, attentive & not overbearing. Loved the fried green tomatoes.
There are only so many upscale vegan restaurants in the bay area, so I was so excited to find a new place with multiple vegan apps/entrees for a special occassion. Everything was even better than we expected, with the standouts being the daikon cakes and the stuffed squash. It was a little on the expensive side, but worth it for the level of complexity of each dish, especially the entrees which had 3-4 different things on each plate! We will be back for the next menu change :)
This friendly, neighborhood restaurant is one of the very finest culinary establishments in the West.
The menu is varied, diverse and seasonal. The chef is a master of creativity. The combination of flavors and execution/presentation of each dish is perfect. Each dish is truly 'art for the palette'.
Everyone associated with Firefly is caring, welcoming, professional, and extremely responsive to your dietary needs. They all know both the menu and wines, and always make appropriate recommendations to complement the dishes.
We, in San Francisco, are so very fortunate to have Firefly. May they continue to flourish for another 25 years...
Firefly's food is always fantastic along with their waitstaff. It's one of the few places that I can go to eat as a Gluten intolerant person and not have to opt out of having the food that sounds/looks good. I appreciate their attention to detail and willingness to give a great meal to any person with our without a dietary restriction.
Been a couple of times now. Fried chicken is stupendous! Service is friendly and atmosphere is convivial, neighborhood-y. Only shortfall: Short rib was disappointing - not cooked until it fell apart like we were expecting.
Everything was delicious and unique. The only thing I was disappointed with was the choppy salad which was very small for the cost.
the halibut was overdone
too much vinegar in dressing for heirloom salad
wine list very poor
plus cost alot of money
too loud for me
maybe an anomaly as i have had many great meals here over years
This restaurant used to be one of my favorites. However, the service was terrible -- our waitress had a bad attitude from the beginning of the night and it didn't get better. The food was mediocre and very uninteresting. With both food and service being underwhelming there is definitely no reason to go back.
A favorite again and again.
This is our 3rd time having dinner at Firefly. It is never a disappointment. From the amazing food to the wonderful service the experience at Firefly is worth the money.
It was wonderful and the staff were great but our female sever was the best ever!
Firefly is still amazing after all these years. Food is fantastic and executed well. Service is perfect. Wine list is unique. I asked if their hot sauce (with the fried chicken) was made in house, and our server (the wine director) not only gave me a bottle, but he fetched the recipe and gave it to me. Thanks for a great meal!
Service was fabulous and the food was delicious. Thanks Brad!!
We ate here this weekend based off reviews on Open Table. The menu looked great with lots of healthy options. The food, however, wasn’t anything special or tasty:( The server was ok, not great but not horrible, and the atmosphere is fine. I thought we would be finding a neighborhood gem, like Universal Cafe, but sadly not so. We won’t be returning.
I had the bouillabaisse and the broth was so-so, it just didn't seem to work. the shrimp tasted a bit overcooked, few clams, and the rockfish was okay. the watercress was the best part.
Thanks to Jay and his team for making an overdue friends outing a memorable evening. The seasonal and perfectly seasoned Tomato salad, Daikon cakes followed by the legendary Fried Chicken were fantastic!
Great service. Food is great!!! Super flavorful. Nice ambiance. Only problem a little too noisy. Makes it difficult to have a conversation.
Great food and attentive service. Always good with new and interesting choices keeps us coming back.
Firefly is one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. The food is healthy, wholesome and creative in a friendly and comfortable environment. The service is always friendly and efficient. The severs are deeply knowledgeable about the menu and the wine selection. You can trust their recommendations.
