Oh, you wanted a restaurant description? Sorry. Can’t really help you there. We’re not so big on labels. Our food is hard to nail down as we are constantly evolving and entirely seasonal and personal. We’ve used “Food you eat” as a tag line on occasion and that remains accurate. We could also describe it as “Food we really want you to eat”. When you’re here, tell us what you would call it.
Fried Heritage Chicken
with Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, Horseradish Slaw and a Damn Fine Buttermilk Biscuit (or Just As Fine Gluten free Cornbread for the Intolerant)
Griddled Daikon Radish Cakes
with Mushroom and Scallion Stir–fry
Japanese Sweet Potato Tostones
with Spicy Pineapple–ginger Glaze
We sat outside in the parklet booth which was kept warm and cozy despite the typical foggy SF evening. Our server was amazing, and the menu had so many exciting options we had trouble choosing. We ordered a number of things to share, the tostones, the elote, the salad with new potatoes, shrimp and grits, vegetable enchiladas, and fries green tomatoes - it was all so delicious and the portions were perfectly balanced and not overloaded. We left with happy bellies and glowing hearts. Such a wonderful experience
Dining in the parklet was perfect. The heater made it warm and convivial even though it was a cool, windy evening. The food was very good and the service was impeccable.
My girl friend has been dining here since 1998, and I've recently discovered Firefly, the food is always consistent and outstanding to the point we asked about the ingredients and was given a printout of the recipe. The best overall dining experience and service.
The food here is always outstanding, never ordinary. We dined in the parkette and it was toasty and warm.
The whole family loves Firefly. Friendly service and such a wonderful, flavorful, ever-changing menu. Brings us back whenever we are in SF! Thanks Jay!
We will miss the incomparable Jay Beaman!❤️
It was really nice and staff are so attentive.
Firefly is one of the two best restaurants in Noe Valley.
Great neighborhood spot. Excellent, non-pretentious service/atmosphere and quality food that could/should at least be Michelin recommended.
I was impressed with how many dishes they could make vegan and everything we tried was outstanding...!!!
Amazing food. Fun atmosphere. Can’t wait to come back.
Having dinner at Firefly was such a treat!
I was looking for a restaurant that would have vegan options, but that would also be a nice place to celebrate a birthday. Everything we ate at Firefly was delicious! There are *plenty* of vegan or veganizable options. Even vegan desserts! (Not only sorbet, which happens often).
The tostones were great, the tomato and (vegan) ricotta was one of my favorite things, and the daikon radish cakes were delicious. The enchiladas were very good too! (And I am Mexican and usually feel unimpressed—not the case here).
Service was impeccable and the place is lovely. Great wines too! Overall, it was a lovely experience and we look forward to being back. :-)
Every dish I have had at Firefly has been superb. Fresh ingredients, almost everything is GF but they don't make a big deal of that, delicious flavors and great textures, friendly & authentic staff. It is my favorite restaurant in the city, as well as my neighborhood restaurant. Most recently I sat outside and was totally comfortable in the parklet with big heaters. The outside is quiet vs the inside which is moderate noise. Must order: tostones!
Perfect for folks that have gluten sensitivity or other food allergies. The staff was so informed and accommodating. We had a great mud-day date here and would definitely come back again!
Our family favorite — we celebrate all occasions here, they’re so creative & delicious, they work for her omnivore parents as well. Welcome back, Firefly!!!
Great service, great food. Really charming local place.
The food is creative & delicious as it has been for 20 years. We don't live nearby anymore so it's a bit of a trek to but always worth it.
Nice neighborhood spot. The menu is short, but the food is delicious. Great short ribs, fried chicken and Brazilian fish stew. Good, attentive service. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the food.
We actually didn’t realize the restaurant was total gluten free and that chickpea based flour was in almost every dish (my partner can’t eat chickpea), so we had trouble finding things on the menu that would work. Service was great and they accommodated and made us something without the flour and gave us a dessert gratis. I was able to eat more and it was very good!
Service was perfect. Food was AMAZING. Can’t wait to come back and eat inside the cozy indoor restaurant space.
Incredible food, great service
As good as always. The best service. Outstanding food and wine.
Lovely restaurant. Delicious food. Attentive and fun servers. Great neighborhood dining.
The food was pretty good but I don't think that it was worth the price. Not a bad experience just not what I expected.
Everything was amazing, the tomato and peach salad was fire. Will be going back for the salad alone. The fried chicken was excellent. The biscuit was soooo good. Solid dining experience top to bottom. We will be making this a regular date night spot.
The food was DEElicious!!! And the service was exemplary.
Love this place. Been coming to this neighborhood gem for 20+ years. Food continues to be excellent - inventive, creative, super attentive to food allergies, and delicious. Every dish, every time.
My husband has Celiac’s and is an utter food snob. He was bowled over by how delicious the fried chicken was. If Firefly is reading this, is there any way I could get the recipe???
For delicious, comfort food and very good wine, try Firefly
Gluten free heaven!
Amazing, delicious and fun food! Our family of 7 ordered one of every appetizer and they were all great. You really can't go wrong. The corn, radish cakes, buns, soup, etc. are all very yummy and combine flavors to make this menu very unique. We shared three of the entrees and they were also all great. The chicken, the enchiladas, and the short rib. Also the desserts were very yummy. Really, you can't go wrong here, and in fact, everything is pretty awesome. Highly recommend!
We have loved Firefly for years. Always dependable and innovative food. Some favorites remain on the menu (their fried chicken is the best!) and other new items get added regularly. Friendly staff, casual atmosphere, a Noe Valley gem!
Julia was our server and she's the best! Made our date night! :D
Dinner at Firefly has always been a special treat on our trips to San Francisco, but it had been several years since we had been able to get there. I can say that this favorite hasn't missed a beat. Tasty, innovative dishes and a homey ambience, along with the greatest service on earth will keep us coming back again and again.
We had our anniversary dinner at Firefly and it was wonderful! Great food and great service.
One of the best meals I have had in a long time. There wasn't anything on the menu that we didn't want to try. The staff were great and the two young chefs are rock stars. Definitely will visit again next time we are in San Francisco.
Super cold inside. Glad they had blankets! Food, service, and ambiance were great!
Excellent and top notch service. A true gem
My favorite restaurant. I love the staff, the food, the ambiance. I will definitely be back
We have been regulars at Firefly for years, and it never disappoints. We ordered takeout regularly when they reopened during the pandemic shutdown. Qe just had our first outdoor dining experience in their parklet, and it was wonderful! They have brought some of their indoor artwork to their parklet dining "rooms," we had a relaxed dinner with friends with some privacy in our dining "room" in our parklet, and our meal and beverages were delicious as always. Even though it was foggy and windy outside, we didn't even need to turn on our heater because they did such a great job constructing their parklet dining space. Highly recommend!
