We went here during restaurant week and loved it! Far exceeded my expectations food wise, both presentation and taste!
We were there for restaurant week and the food was superb! Whenever we visit there we always have a fabulous meal, and they are very sensitive to our gluten free requirements. I feel very confident that I can go to Firefly and have a safe, gluten free emal that is delicious.
We went for Restaurant Week and really enjoyed the experience. I have an autoimmune disease that prevents me from eating gluten (anything containing wheat) and the server was very attentive to my questions and requests and the chef accommodated my needs gracefully. Now if they would only offer gluten free bread I would be in heaven!
The food was good, nothing to rave about. The butterscotch desert was AMAZING! The hostess was fantastic and welcoming. The server was OK at best, I thanked her for the service at the end of our meal as she dropped off our credit card, her reply was "you're welcome" and walked away. At no point did she welcome us, introduce herself or thank us for coming in.
I have been to Firefly three times and each time is better than the last!. The food is amazing...Kudos to the Chef! We went here in January for Happy Hour first and it was also Restaurant Week so we had dinner. All I can say is "MAINE LOBSTER CRUSTED FILET MIGNON?....Yes Please!" I love this place and plan to come back again and again....and again...
The food was outstanding, the atmosphere was fun and the owner stopped by for a chat!
Really nice guy : ) We will definitely be back for more great food.
We have never been disappointed at Firefly! We enjoyed our courses at this month's Restaurant Week, especially the seared Mexican sea bass -- so delicious!
The filet mignon here was excellent. This is the only steak I will eat and it has to melt in my mouth, this one was good. My friend also enjoyed her sea bass. The appetizers were also good. Dessert was too sweet for me but that's because I prefer something a little tart. We enjoyed our meal here and we liked the ambiance and friendly, efficient service.
Not the place for a quiet, romantic evening. We had trouble hearing each other at our table for five. But the atmosphere was great for a fun evening out, and the food and service were first class.
Amazing evening and great price since we went for Resturant Week. We will go again!
The Bree, steak and potatoes was heavenly! Friendly staff!
Tried Firefly for the first time during San Diego Restaurant Week. Overall, pretty please. Food was quality and cooked well, enough to offset the few minor gripes (filet mignon: good quality, cooked well, but was only seasoned with sea salt and was surprisingly salty). Wine list had some nice selections and was large (as one would expect for a wine bar). Restaurant was wide open with no partitions and, while not exactly a boisterous TGI Friday's type environment, it still got a little loud. Staff was well-prepared and things ran smoothly even with a full house. Good place for couples; definitely an "adult" ambiance--would be terrible choice to take small kids/full family.
Food was expertly prepared. Service was adequate. Delicious.
Firefly continues to deliver. This time for restaurant week, no better value and great assortment of dishes. We all had one of specials and everyone was happy.
Inventive and fresh menu. Wonderful ambiance, you'd never know its in a strip mall.
Always a fav for us. We don't eat red meat and can always find excellent choices for dinner.
What's not to like?? Great food at reasonable prices, nice ambiance, very good service. We appreciated the round table for our group of five.
The service was excellent. My boyfriend and I had the New Years Eve Menu which provided a full 5 course meal with a couple of different choices for each course. The food was delicious but we are more curious about their everyday menu rather than their special occasion menus. Although the food was pretty good, I didn't feel it was as tasty as it could've been. I feel that their normal menu would have a wider variety of choices and appeal more to my taste. But overall, it was a very well serviced restaurant and good quantity and quality.
The wine pairing was perfect and brought out the hidden essence in each bite of a spectacular dinner.
A not-so-secret secret in Encinitas...great food, ambience, and service. Jim and the waitstaff make everyone feel welcome. Come and see during restaurant week!
I really love this restaurant. It is virtually perfect in every way. It's wine list is well-priced; the chef knows what he's doing and the service is impeccable. Also, it is a real gem in the neighborhood; well appointed and comfortable with great lighting. The owner, Jim Barrasso, is clearly in sync with his clientele and runs a great place. We will return many times.
For a New Year's Eve treat, Firefly was perfect. Just my wife and I in a cozy, attractive setting with outstanding service and food. We were a bit taken back by the fixed price; far more than we usually spend on dinner out. But when all was eaten and done, it was worth it.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner...the owner Jim personally helped us in selecting and tasting for our bottle of wine selection...very informative and fun.
the short ribs were excellent and highly recommended. The rest of us had the Sea Bass which had a fishy smell and was undercooked and overcooked. Would NOT recommend the fish. The Wedge salad was excellent and they use Romaine instead of Iceberg.
The service was personable however they did not ask how we liked our meal......
We went for an anniversary celebration. The food was excellent, with everyone liking their selections. I think it is moderately priced tor the quality of the food. Excellent selection of wines. The staff was very friendly.
First time here. The wait staff was great. I ordered the lobster risotto and it was returned because the lobster had a bad taste. They took it off my bill but I definitely would not order it again. My husband had the chipotle sea bass which was great. He had sweat on his forehead so watch out for the hotness factor. The mushroom soup was excellent as well as the apple cobbler. I will definitely return here to give it another try.
it was the 2nd time we go this restaurant, the 1st time we only do stater, last night we try the whole dinner thing. it was ok. two of my friend order a streak. there come over cook. my seafood dish was a bit salty. but overall the service was very good
The ambiance was very nice for a quiet, intimate birthday dinner. Food was great, service was a little slow, but it was a busy night.
A great neighborhood restaurant. Only recently moved to this area and feel lucky to have found it so soon. My wife and I love the tasting menu with matched wines. We neither like to eat or drink large quantities, but do like to sample several different items. The fact that they allow sharing of the tasting menu keeps us coming back for more. The food has always been varied, fresh and quite delightful. We have found several wines to our liking that we would probably never have tried if not matched to the menu item. I also like checking out the weekly menu's on line.
Wonderful host and server. Nice selection. Loved the prix fix offering options
Very tasty menu items, but Beef Wellington was dry and a disappointment, which we mentioned to server, without response. Alot of kids running around for a Wine Bar, but oh well.
The friendly reception by the owner and the atmosphere/ambience are the first things you notice. The food is consistenly delicious and prepared/presented to perfection. The service is outstanding. My husband and I have taken friends and family there several times as we know Firefly Grill will not disappint. It is our favorite restaurant in all of San Diego County!!!! - a real gem!
Great place to have a nice dinner.
We had the 4-course weekend and tasting menu with wine pairings. It was the same as their winemaker dinner held the previous night. Dinner was excellent though dessert was the weakest. The wines were quite nice. Service was not at all rushed or too slow.
Never disappointed at Firefly. Jim is the best and has a great restaurant.
The food and wine were good but I was disappointed. We were celebrating our 30th anniversary and I'd made a special request if it was possible they do something special. I know this was open ended but having worked in the restaurant business in college it wouldn't have difficult to buy a drink or appetizer to make the event more meaningful. Out of all the great local restaurants we chose them and they made no extra effort to show their appreciation. A big boo!
The weekday 3 course prix fixe menu is a great deal for $30, or for $50 comes with full wine pairings (3 glasses in total). They also offer wine flights, three half-glasses for around $9-11 of their choices of either red or white wines. Haven't been on a weekend, but it's a pleasant place to go on a weekday, not crowded but clearly a popular place for locals looking for a nice dinner or romantic date. The staff have always been helpful and attentive. I've been 3 times so far and will likely return.
Excellent prix fixe menu and wine pairing was the best!
We enjoyed the entire evening...the food and companion wines as well as the service was excellent
We had the 4-course pre-fix menu with the wine pairing. Our server told us nothing about our dishes or the wines (other than the obvious), something we've come to expect and enjoy with wine-pairing dinners. The scallop course was barely luke warm. The beef course was served without asking how we liked it cooked.
It was a nice place for a date with my wife. The ambiance was nice, the waitress knowledgeable about the wine list and engaging in follow-on discussion, and the food different enough to be interesting but approachable enough not to be a stretch.
We will be back!
We ALWAYS have a great time and a great meal at Firefly!!
