Firefly - DC

We went to Firefly before a show at the Keegan Theater. I mentioned we were there because they were a partner with the theater. They did not give us the discount that they advertised on the website for the restaurant and the theater. When we asked for the specialty drink that was made for the show they said they did not have them.
Quaint little eatery that we stopped by for a quick breakfast before heading to the airport. My friend and I sat at the bar. The staff was super friendly and accommodating making conversation and making sure that we didn’t need anything. Kudos for the friendly staff. The food was definitely decent. Nothing that I’ll write home about but definitely solid. The biggest complaint was the swarm of fruit flies that were surrounding us and everything at the bar. Perhaps look into taking car of that as it is distracting to eat while swatting fruit flies.
The food was great. I thought their prices were a little high for what they offer.
Food was great, which is important. But:
Bartender was maybe the worst I’ve ever had - like one you’d find at a Super 8 motel on the 1am shift with a fake smile and a pack of cigs stashed in her bra. She was WAY out of her depth, spilling drinks and slinging hardware all over the place. While pouring my guest’s drink (which ended up tasting TERRIBLE), she spilled at least two shots worth of liquor on the floor while making one drink. Such a waste for the restaurant (think of how much money they lose to spilt liquor if she does this all the time)! Then when she delivered the drink dripping wet down the sides from where she spilled all over, she didn’t give any napkins. When my guest got up to get napkins to clean it up, she threw side eyes at us. The HH prices are actually pretty good, but I would never recommend any of my friends here in fear of them being served by Super 8. I would be so embarrassed if I owned this restaurant!
Server was nice but only came around two or three times the whole night even though the restaurant was maybe 10% full.
Environment felt uncomfortable, crude, and somewhat dated. Not like the upscale setting I was expecting. You could tell they tried with the scenery, but landed somewhere between a pop up bar and Narnia on a cheap community theater budget.
The only thing the managers of this place have done right is hiring the chef.
The food was good. We took advantage of the DC restaurant week menu and thought that it was a great value. We also thought that letting the kids decorate their own cookie while they are waiting for dinner to come out was a brilliant idea!
Restaurant week in dc - and we enjoyed it very much!
Plates were a little pricey for small meals...I had 3 small carrots on my plate as the vegetable. Cute place though and the food was good.
Great food, drinks, and customer service
Absolutely wonderful - the setting is quite divine with the gorgeous tree in the middle and noise cancelling sculpture on the ceiling. Our meals were absolutely delicious and the cocktails to die for. We will be back
Waitress was inattentive. Crowd was noisy.
Food great/fresh, service excellent. Jeans and a dress shirt worked well. Would return.
It was loud. The physical space is nice but the music didn’t match the space. Some of the food was over sauced; the the flavors were not very distinct. My Aunt’s vodka drink did not taste correct. The food came quickly. My scallops were cooked well. The Mac and cheese, Brussels sprouts and deviled eggs were excellent. I’d say great for the comfort food. It was expensive for the food.
Nice restaurant for reasonably priced lunch in the DC NW area. Recommend.
The food was very good but the service was very slow. The restaurant was not full; lots of empty tables. Usually the server brings rolls or bread to the table but we had to ask for bread after being served our meal.
One of the noisiest restaurants I’ve been in. Impossible to have a conversation without shouting. We waited 20 minutes in spite of having made a reservation
Firefly came highly recommended and we see why. Jose was an amazing server but the entire staff was wonderful. We tend to frequent restaurants with great food but come back for great service. If we didn't live in Colorado we would be back often.
Great restaurant, nice ambience and food. Friendly staff
Firefly is great!! I would definitely recommend it to a friend. The food is delicious and the place is very nice. Also it’s a great location. The wine and beer selections are also very good. 10/10 would recommend!
I chose this restaurant based on proximity to the hotel- bad idea- service was mediocre, food was not memorable. Server stated they had gluten free bread options - 25 min later the manager came and said they did not. It took that long to figure it out? The restaurant only had 4 other tables occupied! Not worth a return visit.
It’s a hotel restaurant and has no business being on Open Table. Horrible service. Boring, though acceptable, food.
This restaurant seems to have stepped down a notch. I’ve eaten there twice before over the last 5 years when passing through DC. The food was still good but the first two times I ate here it was great. It wasn’t that busy on a Saturday night and there were no specials. My family was still happy - especially my 9 year old who remembered that the children’s meal includes a decorate your own sugar cookie - but it wasn’t as magical as in the past.
The service was great, but despite having a reservation for a high top my friend and I were placed into the smaller dining room with a large party. Because the room was smaller, the noise from their conversation made it nearly impossible for us to talk at a normal volume. The food was fine but it was unappetizing to swat fruit flies away from our meals. My friend and I both enjoyed the decor, but overall it was a subpar birthday brunch.
Brunch was phenomenal. French toast and chilaquiles were unbelievably delicious!
Great low key spot near DuPont Circle. Never disappoints. Menu is going through changes but everything has been great. This has become my go to spot for out of town guests.
Delicious!!! Pot roast was amazing. Loved that the kids got to make cookies (kept them entertained during our long dinner). They didn’t like the food too much, but we got to then eat it and it was amazing! Loved the shells & cheese!
I want to provide some in a text for my review. The reason I’m writing the food is so low is not because of the food we received, but that they took l one item off the menu that was the reason I came: the chocolate pot.
Simple dinner, I had scallops, which were perfectly cooked and the rest of the dish was wonderful. Buddy had pot roast, really enjoyed it. Bread was a tad stale but I wasn't there for the bread. Service was excellent, perfectly timed without being over attentive. Highly recommended.
Really tasty food and amazing decoration - definitely recommend
Very nice brunch. Good service. Definitely a good place to go!
The asparagus and brussel sprouts were delicious! Loved our meals! The kids especially loved decorating cookies! Definitely recommend!
Our food was very good. We tried a unique plant based offering of pasta and vegetables. Very tasty but a bit too oily. I can't comment on meat offerings. We had excellent wine and good service. Our 21 year old daughter enjoyed her hummus and veggies. We aren't vegans, but try to eat plant based dinners frequently. We loved the proximity of this restaurant to our hotel - The St. Gregory. Beautiful area.
Outstanding experience for a family night out. LOVE the added touch of having the kids decorate a cookie before the meal, and then being able to enjoy their creation for dessert. Our server was very nice, but it was clear he was very busy because he doubled as the bartender.
Service was awful. Food was gross. There were flies inside around our food. The waiter was basically unavailable. Very disappointed. Would not recommend.
Met a school friend that I hadn’t seen for over 30 years. We needed a restaurant that would let us talk and not be intrusive. Firefly was perfect. The staff went out of the way to insure we were comfortable. The meal was excellent and only added to our reunion. Thank you.
Open table credit card and cancelation fee unreasonable.
After one hour we were asked to vacate our table for the next reservation. It had taken two requests for me to get a second cup of coffee, so I told them we would leave soon. As soon as I stepped away to use the restroom (two minutes later), the hostess bullied my two teenage guests out of their seats. Have never experienced such rudeness. There were open armchairs up front, but no one offered them to us. Horrible.
I visit this restaurant almost every time I'm in DC. Love it!
As a newly diagnosed celiac, finding places that have a substantial GF menu has been a little challenging. Firefly did NOT disappoint and the food tasted fantastic. Will 100% be back.
Went here for brunch and loved it. Food is amazing all around. Great portion sizes and quality. Would definitely return!
Good food / good service / diverse menu - there were three of us - each had a completely different meal and all were good & great speciality cocktails.
