Firefly - DC Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant was very loud. The different dishes we had - braised lamb, risotto, white fish brandade, banana split lacked taste, and simple ingredients. Especially the presentation of the food was very poor. Where the main dishes lacked creativity with the presentation, the banana split is simply an overdo of too many ingredients messing up a simple dish. The beer glass was warm, no colorful presentation. The chairs are too low and uncomfortable, as the tables are very high.I indicated in my reservation that one of the diners is pregnant, which was ignored. We understand that not every wish can be paid attention to, but there should be a clear communication strategy between this website and the restaurant. For diner: Poor value for money.
You can never go wrong with your choice of food at Firefly. The market fish is always an excellent choice. The rissotto is also very good. What I love about this place is how kid-friendly it is and the welcoming and very helpful staff. I've never had to wait long to be seated and service is quick. The noise level though is very high so if you're trying to have a quiet, intimate dinner, this might not be the place for you.
Food's lovely, & they're great about changing menu up to suit your requests, and the decor is cool...but bring your patience. It was Sunday brunch, 11am...We showed up promptly for our reservations, and ordered immediately. I suppose because every table was full, it took 10 minutes to get our drinks, and 40 minutes to get food. I got...hungry. The wait staff was slammed, which tells me (as a former restaurant manager) that they were at least one server short for the floor, and perhaps one cook short for the kitchen. We didn't punish the wait staff for that when it came to tips, but I vowed to only go back on their off hours.
Great menu and food! Everything I ordered was just delicious. The restaurant was quite packed. My one complaint is the lighting. It was way too dark to even read the menu or to appreciate the food. And they use dark colored water glasses, so be careful you may accidently know your glass over. There was a long wait between drinks and the staff returning to the table to check on us after we ordered and received our food. But definitely would visit this place again.
Incredibly noisy--it felt like a bar. We had to yell to be heard, and we were sitting in adjacent chairs at the table. Main course was very bland--arctic char over quinoa with salsa verde. There was absolutely no salt or seasoning on any part of the dish. Companion's food was better. Unfortunately, probably won't be back--way too loud (I wouldn't exactly rate it as "energetic"), and food was not good enough for the fairly steep price.
We tried out Firefly for the first time during Restaurant Week. Four of us tried different dishes and each dish was great. The service was outstanding even though it was really busy. We will definitely be returning to try more of Firefly's delicious dishes.
My wife and I have eaten at Firefly on a handful of occassions. Our first date was here and we've continued to enjoy the food and ambiance. From the mini pot roast to the braised lamb, to the crab cakes there are a number of delicous dishes to enjoy. The deserts leave alot to be desired in my opinion, but if that is unimportant the firsts and seconds more than hold their own.
Great place and best restaurant week dinner menu that I've had. Their restaurant week menu stays the same as their regular menu - so good opportunity to try out everything at a great price. Make sure to try the steak, really good, and the dessert (pear ice cream sundae) is really good as well
So in 2010 I did restaurant week at this location and the dinner was fantastic! This time I made a Saturday 12:30 PM reservation and turns out that they only serve "brunch" during this time frame which was not restaurant week. Not a big deal but there was no way to know this when booking via opentable. The food was okay not nearly good as dinner last year. The staff were fine. I did really like that on your first check-in via "foursquare" you get a complimentary glass of champagne.
This casual-hip, off the beaten track restaurant lounge is really best appreciated for its inventive forest decor a la 100 Acre Wood, complete with flickering candles. Serious foodies - or the seriously hungry - may be a little let down by its menu offerings that, while inventive, aren't quite as impressive in their execution. The salted baby beet salad is probably the best and most unique item on the menu: a modest portion of baby beets, arugula sprouts, and Maryland-local goat cheese that harmonized very well. The entrees were well presented but bland. The ginger ice cream was overwhelming (& I love ginger). Staff, including manager, didn't show much concern over my friend's fouled up order & made little attempt to resolve the situation.
Went there for Restaurant Week so it was very crowded. The ambiance was nice and the firefly theme was present down to delivering the check in jelly jars with flickering lights. The food could have had better flavor. I had the soup of the day (butternut squash), risotto, and carrot cake. All the dishes were serviceable, but not as outstanding as I would expect for the money. The service was attentive and our server checked on us several times. It was a fun place to try out during Restaurant Week, but I won't be returning.
A group of 5 of us went to Firefly for Restaurant Week (Jan 2011). The food was absolutely delicious. It was packed though and there isn't a lot of space between tables making it difficult to maneuver around. Our waitress was very knowledgable about the food and drink selection but it was hard to track her down when we needed her. All of our food came out at the same time and it was all hot.
We went to Firefly for the first time for lunch during Restaurant Week. I hadn't really heard much about it, but I've been wanting to try it. The food was great, the service was attentive, and the atmosphere was very cute. I love that they brought out the bill like a captured firefly (in a mason jar with holes in the top).
Overall, I'm very pleased with my dining experience and will definitely go again!
Unusual food combinations kept me from really enjoying my dining at this restaurant. When my daughter and I were done, neither of us were very satisfied with the experience. High marks do go to the excellent staff who were extremely friendly and attentive. Honestly just not our kind of menu.
We went during Restaurant week, so of course it was busy, the service was a little slow because of this, but the waitress was great. The food was really good. Great spot for lunch or a casual dinner. The Blood Orange Sorbet with Salted Oatmeal Cookie was the best desert.
My husband and I went to Firefly for restaurant week for lunch. We thought the food was really good. I thought the restaurant week $20 lunch was a little overpriced for the choices they offered. With that said, I'd definitely go back again. The service was great. Our waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable. It seems like a great place for lunch. I'd go back in the evening to try their dinner menu as well.
This was my second time at Firefly, and it's always been a great experience. The food is good with a little gourmet twist (but not pretentious) and the atmosphere is very welcoming with a wood cabin theme. I have been there for work-related lunches, and it's especially good when you are looking for something a little less formal but still want to enjoy the quality food and a nice quiet atmosphere to chat.
This was our first time visiting Firefly and it was for DC Restaurant Week. Some restaurants punt RW and others use it as an opportunity to create new fans - Firefly was the latter. Our party of four was pretty diverse in terms of expectations, experience with different cuisines, wine lovers, etc. All four of us were very satisfied with our food, the service and the ambiance. Firefly is simply charming. It is not the most complex food I have ever eaten, but it doesn't need to be. I would take out of town guests there for a guaranteed good meal and great experience. The service was excellent. Big Winner!
