Firefly - DC Ratings and Reviews
This was a wonderful experience. I dined out with my 2 sons age 8 and 10 and 4 adults we all found our meals wonderful and one of the waiters even made my AU son honey mustard sauce which he stated was the best he ever had. Would absolutely recommend this place and would dine here again!
Breakfast. Less than eight people in the place but the two servers seemed swamped. Our water glasses sat empty while one server filled the glasses at the table next to us. We asked the other server for water so the first guy comes back and looks at us and walks away. Excuse me! Over here! Hello! No one ever came around with more coffee either. The gravlax bagel was claimed to be served with dill but it was actually micro cilantro. The only other item it came with was some hard boiled egg slices. Would it have been to much to offer some onion or tomato? The portion of gravlax was minuscule. I've been in bagel bistros that were more generous than this and cost half the price.
Food took way too long. They did credit our side dish for the slow service. My steak was over cooked but couldn't send it back or we would have missed our show. Not a place for a date or quite evening but great if you have small children as there were plenty in the restaurant.
We all want to extend a special thanks to the incredible staff at FireFly for their hospitality and care when our group suddenly expanded by a few people on a brunch day. They were quick to get us a table and seated with care and made sure we were happy and taken care of throughout the service. We had a wonderful brunch on Sunday because of the extra mile all of the employees took to ensure our satisfaction.
Thank you! We'll be back for sure!
Food was above average. Limited beer menu. Frustrating that the restaurant continues to be listed as top family friendly restaurant in dc. I dont think that they should be considered family friendly because a make decorate yourself sugar cookie comes with the kids menu. Kids options a little to over flavored fancy for most kids 6 to 10 years old. Only two stand alone unisex bathrooms with no changing tables in them . Consistent wait for the bathrooms. Not very kid friendly. For what it is , it is a decent restaurant with very creative foods and a unique atmosphere with a tree in the center. If you are waiting for a table , wait inside if you can . The mosquito problem is crazy bad outside , especially by the vents next to the swing which is just outside the front door.
Kids menu was reasonable and tasty, as well as the free cookie and plastic cup. Overall, the food was overpriced and just mediocre. It took a long time to get my drink order and service was average. We told the waitress we were celebrating a birthday but it appears that the restaurant doesn't do anything special when that occurs. It wasn't bad but I wouldn't rush back.
My son and I vistited this restaurant on Wednesday night. I had the shrimp and grits which were delicious. We chose the restaurant because we both eat gluten free, but unfortunately the kids' menu didn't have many GF options-- it would be great if the kitchen would stock some GF buns for burgers and GF pasta for GF kids since the restaurant brands itself as gluten friendly. The cornbread was a tasty app for all!
Our service was outstanding, though, and the ambiance was vibrant. Recommend.
S-L-O-W service, forgot several requests and we waited an exceptionally long time for both drinks and food. One of the dishes we ordered wasn't available, but we weren't given that info until awhile after we ordered. We asked for just a bowl of fresh fruit to replace it but it obviously wasn't fresh and the honey dew melon had been frozen and thawed to where it was no longer edible. Otherwise our dishes were good but took forever to arrive. We had heard such good things about Firefly, so it was disappointing to take visiting family and have an underwhelming experience.
The restaurant facility is interesting and a bit funky, but unprepossessing. The food, however, was top-notch; very inventive, creative, and superb quality. We all shared each other's meal, and they were all memorable. The hamburger may have been the best I've ever had. A great find!
We were a party of seven with out of town guests and booked the restaurant for the ambiance and entree options. We were stuck in the plain back room alone with no server. She rarely appeared and I had to ask her if she could take a drink order and even had to hunt her down in the kitchen for our check. The restaurant was not that busy and never busy enough to seat another table in the back room. To make matters worse, the two tables that were joined had a one inch gap down the middle where two of us were forced to balance our dishes over the entire meal. Even positioning the tables along the side wall closer to the doors/opening would have made a huge difference in feeling like we were at the restaurant versus some nondescript, yet run down looking space. All of us enjoyed our food, in fact almost every dish we ordered was some of the best we've had in a while, but we won't be back. For this type of dining establishment, I expect the service, ambiance, and food all to be on par. One out of three isn't enough.
Wow. This restaurant's food left a lot to be desired. One of the two main courses was incorrect and by the time the waiter checked on the food, it was too late to fix. The restaurant did comp the entree so I do give them credit for that. But the courses were over seasoned and not of very good quality. We went elsewhere for desert. I cannot recommend it to anyone.
I wish we had read the previous reviews before we made our reservation and had brunch at Firefly. The service was terrible and incredibly slow. The food was ok at best but certainly overpriced for the quality we received. It was so loud despite there were only two other tables of two in the room we were in. Several times during our visit I had to swat flying insects away from our table.
I went here for the first time with some out-of-town guests, and it did not disappoint! The food was amazing! I had the vegetarian pot pie -- sooo yummy. Great texture and flavor. And by friends had meat dishes (lamb and pot roast). They both raved over their dishes as well. The service was okay, but we didn't mind not being bugged because we were catching up! The atmosphere is cool (tree in middle of restaurant) but the noise level is high. It is not a place to go for quiet or serious conversation.
Terrible service. Like, I'm pretty sure the only reason this place is still in business is because it's attached to a hotel. I don't know why I keep going back, except that it's near where I work. EVERY.SINGLE.TIME I go to breakfast here, it takes FOREVER to place and then receive an order. This particular visit was the worst. The cream that came for my tea was curdled. When I showed the waiter, he looked more put upon than sorry that it happened. He brought another cup (but no spoon) after about 10 minutes. It took 40 minutes to get a muffin and scrambled eggs. The waiter was nowhere to be found. Nobody came to check on us. Nobody gave a sh*t whether we ate or not. The management just wander around clueless and don't do anything to help their wait staff. Overall, just really, really poorly run. It's a shame, too, because the food is really good...when it finally arrives.
I've been to Firefly countless times over the past 3 years, and this was by the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant here in D.C. My family flew in from Asia for my law school graduation, and I decided to treat them to a nice brunch (or at least that's what I had hoped for). Even though there was plenty of space within the restaurant we were seated in the worst possible spot where waiters constantly bumped the back of our chairs throughout the meal. I asked the manager for a new table, to which he responded with disrespect and a lie, indicating that some other larger party was to arrive at the better located table (never ended up happening). The service was even more despicable to the point where the wait staff and manager's treatment felt discriminatory against my foreign family. I was mortified to have brought my family to such a disgusting establishment. I will not be coming back ever, and I will make sure no one arounds me makes the same mistake as I do by dining at Firefly.
The truffle French fries are consistently delicious. We tried some tacos with lime sauce and they were very disappointing. The sauce tasted like how a cleaning product with lime fragrance smells. The service was great. The place is darling. It's a little pricy for how much food you get.
