Firefly - DC Ratings and Reviews
With all of the great options in the neighborhood don't waste your money here. The menu on Open Table doesn't match that at the restaurant. The wait staff was disinterested in whether we even liked the offerings. It was bland and boring standard fair at fine dining prices. The mason jar with a flame less candle to deliver the check is low concept....
We had not been to Firefly for quite a while, despite living within walking distance, but remembered it as being okay. It remains barely okay -- probably most suited to college students on a date or casual gatherings for friends who are willing to tolerate crowded seating, noise, and lackluster service. The food was not memorable. Mediocre by-the-glass wines and watered down cocktails. A really sad looking room in the back which we were at least fortunate enough to have avoided being seated in.
We had a great time at Firefly. We celebrated our anniversary and were seated at a wonderful table by the window. Everyone that took care of us nkew it was a special night. Our food was delicious--we had bruschetta with burrata, the wedge salad, salmon and the creative vegetable pot pie! I highly recommend Firefly for the food and service!
As always, a great experience. All the food that comes out of the kitchen is delicious...seasoned well, cooked to perfection and delivered with a smile. Great ambience - intimate enough for a double date, yet casual enough to grab a quick bite with friends.
I used to like Firefly for its fresh food and creative approach to its entrees. These days the menu is mainstream, appetizers like wedge salad are commonplace, although in fairness the fish tacos sing with freshness. The vegetable pot pie was surprising in preparation and delicious--a larger serving would have been great.
The grasshopper dessert has too much happening on the plate and the ice cream was rock solid--too hard to actually eat or enjoy.
I miss the original Firefly.
We were there for Friday drinks and dinner with a group of 5 friends. Service was congenial and food was good. However, Firefly inexplicably authorized a $25 charge on our credit card two days later, even though we settled our bill in full before we left. We hope that they will refund this erroneous charge shortly and that other customers didn't experience the same.
Food was good but nothing amazing. This was probably just my experience but our waiter was not very informative about the food options. The menu did not really explain what came with the meal, so we asked about what the dishes came with. He was not sure, so we ordered a side. But when the food came, the same side dish was already part of the meal, which would have been nice to know when we asked. An overall good experience but could have been with a better waiter.
We arrived 5 minutes early They made us wait though there were many open tables. Then, we waited a while for water and more time before a waiter came, though we saw what appeared to be servers just standing around. Once we got him, our was friendly and helpful. We were lucky that there were a number of empty tables, that kept the noise level down. My meal (vegan) was excellent. My companion was slightly less satisfied because he expected soft polenta but it wasn't. I like Firefly's creative menu, was slightly surprised by the relatively slow service.
Expect to have a lengthy wait for food, even with reservations. We were seated promptly as expected. Wouldn't recommend for children. Yes, they decorate a cookie but otherwise wouldn't recommend especially with a 2 hour dining experience. Food was good, steak was really good, but could have the same experience elsewhere with better service.
We have been coming here for over 8 years since our daughters went to college in DC. The last two visits have been disappointing. Drinks were not made property and our meals were just okay. One chicken entree was under-cooked. The server did get another entree for her which was nice. One person ordered a Tito's on the rocks with olives and got a Tito's with a lime garnish and olive juice in the drink- no olives. Two people ordered Mojito's and the only mint was one leaf as garnish- no muddled mint in the drink. This used to be my favorite dining places, but honestly, not sure we will be back.
Firefly is such a great dinner place! The menu is simple in the best way and the food is SO GOOD. It is rare that you find a restaurant in D.C. that does classic, simple food so well. We had the airline chicken, wagyu burger, and the mini pot roast. Mini pot roast is delicious and one of their famous dishes.
The ambiance was wonderful; however, the wait staff was absolutely spectacular. I took two young women to celebrate their 14th birthday and they waiter absolutely made this a special day for them. The food was phenomenal and the staff was more than happy to provide us details of the local farm in which our meal came from without hesitation. I highly recommend a repeat the next time we are in D.C.
Nice, urban decor. The food was very good with lots of unique brunch choices. Service was good, although our food took quite a while to come out. But the hostess came and apologized and comped part of our bill without us even saying anything. Would definitely go back!
This is not a restaurant where I will return. The service was only average, the food was ok, but way too pricey for what you get. There was a foul smell in the restaurant... it did not smell very clean. My husband was given a glass of water which was very dirty and his coffee mug wasn't clean either... would definitely not recommend to a friend.
Very disappointed with gluten free menu. Better off going to a different restaurant and asking for gluten free options. This was the same menu in a different color with reg options lightened in color. We had salad with grilled chicken and the chicken was so fatty that it was not edible. We told our waiter who agreed and we weren't charged for the chicken. I DO NOT reccomend for someone with celiacs. Furthermore my husband had a chicken pot pie off regular menu which was my edible. I do not recommend this restaurant. Service was very slow as well. I will not return.
Had a wonderful time at Firefly. Booked the reservation based on the "kid friendly" note. My boys had a great time and enjoyed their meals but were especially excited about the cookie decorating / dessert option. The grown up options were tasty as well!
I would definitely recommend to anyone traveling in DC with children or just for a casual night out for anyone.
