Firefly - DC Ratings and Reviews
Dinner with a long-time business associate and my wife. We shared the bruschetta and steak tartare appetizers. Grilled trout main was very good, but the real star was the smoked lamb chops. They were superb. Smoky without being overpowering, cooked rare, and served with potatoes and spinach in a smoky cream sauce.
Food was great as usual and the waiter was awesome. He told us it was fine for us to linger over our coffee or water continuing our conversation even when we were done with our meal. And we did. So rare these days when most restaurants seem bent on hurrying you out the door as soon as the check has been paid. We had a great, relaxing brunch and a wonderful time catching up.
A little loud but I'm a bit picky that way. Lovely waitress. Excellent food for a casual spot. (We shared all of it and were all pleased.) Very cool to see the bartender torching herbs and whatnot. Bar was full but not crowded on a Thurs night. I think we each got out for under $50, stuffed w food and two glasses of wine.
What a disappointing lunch we had on Friday. The Fish tacos had no flavor and any kind of zing that you expect in a taco. The ginger squash soup was mediocre and I question if there was any ginger in the soup at ALL. It's too bad. Firefly has always been a favorite of my Dupont Circle Office.
I've eaten here before. The prices are a little high but the food is always very good and the atmosphere and service are also great. On this particular visit, I was in for breakfast and ordered the Eggs Benedict. They were terrific - highly recommend. Two people at the table each ordered a side of bacon. The bacon was good but not thick-sliced or anything special like that. We were charged $6/per side for a total of $12, which I thought was excessive, but I didn't feel the need to make a scene. I don't recall seeing pricing for side-orders on the menu, so if it's there and we missed it, then so be it.
W always dine at least one night at Fire Fly when we are in DC for business or pleasure. Most typically we stay at the Kimpton Hotel associated with Fire Fly, so we have also enjoyed breakfast many mornings. The menus offers a variety of choices and without being overwhelming. So far, neither I nor any business companions joining me have found anything that we didn't like. (I have a particular fondness for the deviled eggs.) The service is outstanding.
I have had many lunches at Firefly and this one did not disappoint. It was an earlier than usual lunch so the volume had not gotten to the energetic level. Throughout, my dining companion and I had an enjoyable and engaging time. The food was delicious and service appropriately attentive. I enjoyed the butternut squash soup special and fish tacos with a side salad at the unexpected anniversary special value of $15. ]
Relegated to the back of the house where the
a/c froze everyone.
Waiter was never around... it took about 30 minutes before he addressed us.
Food took another 45 minutes to show up. We had to wait another 10 minutes until the last plate was delivered to our table.
Food was over cooked and tough.
We greatly enjoyed our meal at Firefly. They carefully handled my needs as a diner with Celiac including providing gluten free bread. The food was quite stellar and the service was also of high quality. Firefly is a gem, will definitely be remembering to come back soon.
Our server skipped over us several times to fill our water or coffee’s. Never provided cream or sugar when we got our coffee (had to ask). Provided us toast and no spread for it. When trying to get our server’s attention he’d avoid eye contact and we needed to ask other servers for help. Food was good, but the service was lacking. Guess if we bought alcohol he would have paid more attention to us.
The menu was small. We almost left because of the slim menu selections. The kids menu was geared toward 2-8 year olds. There really wasn’t much for the tween to teen aged children. Really need to have a small steak, pasta or pork chop dish that is aimed at teens. Overall the food was good. The service was slow. The prices were a bit high.
With all of the great options in the neighborhood don't waste your money here. The menu on Open Table doesn't match that at the restaurant. The wait staff was disinterested in whether we even liked the offerings. It was bland and boring standard fair at fine dining prices. The mason jar with a flame less candle to deliver the check is low concept....
