View Private Dining DetailsWonderful ambience. I met my niece for lunch on a weekday so quiet, not crowded. I have been there for dinner when busier but not as loud as other places. It is on the small side, so intimate. You must go if only to see the tree in the middle of the dining room.
Great brunch spot in Dupont! I love the unique decor and the tree in the middle of the restaurant brings me back again and again!
The host at the door did not seem to be comfortable, hard to understand. The table we were shown to was in an awkward location, we asked for another table. The reservation was made weeks in advance. We were left standing in the middle of the restaurant and we finally just sat at a table on our own. Service was fairly on point. The food was expensive for what was served. My dinner companion was ill when we returned to our hotel, without going into details. Would not return or recommend. With that said, it could have been an off night. We would also have preferred one server, not 3.
Restaurant is nice inside, but the food is mediocre. Its like eating at a friends house but you have to pay.
This is one of the toughest reviews I've had to write. The food was excellent. Every single dish was delicious. The sheshito peppers and the octopus were outstanding appetizers. My entree, the whole fish, was done to perfection and my wife and friends all had good things to say about their food. However, there are a few real complaints: 1) our waiter was not very pleasant which detracts from the experience of an expensive meal, 2) the cocktails that our table got were generally not very good (my Ommegang pale sour beer, however, was excellent), and 3) the temperature was absurdly warm.
This restaurant is not accommodating at all. They did not want to change anything on their menu. Our waiter was very good and patient, but his manager would not accommodate menu changes. The portion sizes were rather small as well.
Gosh the mains we're good, the glutien free menu was tasty. The apitizers did not come out correctly. Also the coctail first round was muffed. However Cosmo we're good for the ladies. Service was good.
Sorry to say disappointed. The wait staff were great, but the food and atmosphere were not so much.
Took main course over an hour to show during a work week lunch
food was good! staff was friendly. a few minor adjustments could seriously improve experience (i.e. not having wobbly tables)
Everything was nice except a salad that was smallest I have ever been served as a main dish. It was smaller than most sides, and ridiculously overprices for what I got.
Sweet little spot. Very loud. Good food. Waiters all seemed harried. Yummy food. A little on the pricey side but the food lived up to it.
We had a large party with a Sunday morning reservation (12 people). When we arrived, the waitress informed us that the party before us was not ready to move yet. We needed to suggest to the waitress that she should find a way to accommodate us. We then proceeded to wait 10 minutes in the neighboring hotel (Firefly does not have space to wait), and then 10 more minutes while they got our table ready. All the while they were rude.
The waitress who served us in the end was friendly, but the food took quite a while to arrive. We were bit pressed for time because of a flight later that day, but we got the check moments before our deadline. It all worked out fine, but we were disappointed with how hostile the hostess and original waitstaff were to accommodating our reservation.
I was excited to try Firefly this weekend and was a bit disappointed. I really liked how they had some kids options - since that isn't always the case for brunch menus. The food was good - not great. My son ordered milk to drink and they were out. But what makes what would have been a fun outing, very frustrating was the poor service. They really need to get more servers. It took over a half hour from when we arrived to just get our drinks (coffee and waters... not even something from the bar!). We weren't in any hurry - but the place was very full and it got warm quick. I could have used a water!
Been a while since our last visit. New decor was nice and service staff was attentive.
This place is so cute and the cocktails are great. Steak was cooked perfectly and I love the roasted carrots and the salad. Staff was attentive and friendly. I would not hesitate to recommend it!
Ambiance was nice. Food was mediocre at best, and totally overpriced.
Disappointing, I’ve had great meals there before but this was different. Waiter clearly forgot to put in our brunch order (small party of 4), leading to a 45 minutes of sipping coffee wondering where our food was. The food itself seemed off, particularly the eggs. Almost plastic. Only the French Toast was particularly good. Bathrooms were absolutely disgusting and there was no toilet paper. It makes me sad but I don’t see myself returning any time soon.
It's been awhile since we last ate at Firefly, and the menu has changed (both items offered and prices...) with the arrival of a new chef. Still very good food, and Joe is still a fantastic server! We appreciate the great coffee, and regretted being there too early on a Sunday morning to get a Bloody Mary (since DC law does not allow alcohol to be served before 10 AM.)
We went with the specific intention of trying their "transformation" cocktail - a color changing gimlet. Sadly, it was not available.
We tried the coffee martini and then a new gin cocktail - both were far better than our expectations.
We loved the drinks, staff was a little inattentive.
This was the most disappointing dining experience I've had in years. First the good, they refilled the adults water glasses very frequently and cleared dishes quickly. The cocktails, though small, were very good. The buttermilk panna cotta with grapefruit and honeycomb was excellent. The scallops were okay. Now the rest, the other service was slow and inattentive. We had to repeatedly ask and remind the waitress for needed items (why would you not bring the kids' cookies out with the other desserts? Why do you bring two spoons when there are six people and we asked for spoons to share the two desserts?). No one ever checked to see if the food was good (until it was being cleared). It was not good. The salad, charcuterie, shrimp and grits, and golden beet soup were boring and uninspired. The pork belly tasted like unburned propane and had the consistency of jerky. The grilled sea bass was dried out. The kids grilled cheese was burnt and the kids crispy fish had a soggy batter. Previous to tonight, I once went to Firefly about ten years ago. It is not the restaurant it used to be.
We made a reservation two weeks prior as we had a larger party (8). We showed up 5 minutes early to the restaurant but had to wait over a half hour for our table. We had to continue to ask the staff what the status of our table was. Additionally, no staff came over to apologize for the wait or check in on us. The good news is that once someone in our party complained, we got the bill cut in half. I would recommend going to smaller parties, but if you're a larger group I would stay away unless you have ample time on your hands.
Delicious brunch!
A busy Friday evening. We had reservations for two but added a third at the last minute. The staff was incredibly helpful in setting up space for us. Service throughout was knowledgeable, cheerful and prompt . The menu tilts toward tastings of many great things--for us, it was pasta, Brussels sprouts, shishito peppers, chickpeas, octopus, rigatoni Bolognese. All intriguing and each different from the other. Lots of vegan/vegetarian options and a separate gluten-free menu. But more traditional diners will also find lots to love Strongly recommended.
Chosen to accommodate one member of our party with a gluten-free diet, prior to a show at the Kennedy Center. While the cocktails were very good, and the food was acceptable, nothing that we ordered was memorable. My pork chop, for $28, was cooked properly in what appeared to be butter and seasoning salt, but gave the impression that it had been par-cooked and finished for service, and only included a small apple-celery salad to accompany. Had we not ordered an additional side dish for $10, it would not have been a filling meal. Our experience was nothing to complain about, but I have been to other DC restaurants that offer more exciting food for similar money.
Great vibe and wonderful food. A real family place where all are welcome.
Very expensive for the portion size. The shrimp and grits was excellent, however the SRF Waygu flank steak was not prepared well. Two of the items we selected were out once the ticket was sent to the kitchen.
Beautiful place, but the food was very average especially considering the price point of this menu.
Took way too long for main courses to arrive. About 70 minutes from ordering to main courses, including kids meal which we asked to be served right away. Beverages sat empty for long periods and refills were slow after getting server’s attention.
Perfect for a quick lunch away from
The office
I work next door and enjoy this as a lunch spot with friends. The food is delicious and the service is great. Hope to get there for a happy hour sometime!
There was a group of 10 of us for dinner. We had a reservation so it was not a surprise we were coming. The server was nice although the service overall was painfully slow. We were already seated for well over an hour before our order was taken. The food then took another hour to come out, and when the main course came out it was also painfully slow. The staff brought our 1 dish at a time, and for 10 people that took quite a while. We had 1 dish missing, and it took about 7 extra minutes after everyone else had their food.
The food was decent, but I would not recommend this place for a larger group just because of the service. Overall our party of 10 was there for 3 hours! That’s entirely too long.
Food was awesome. Took a really long time for someone to come by and take our order. And then another at least 30-40 minutes for food to arrive. We had to ask if everything was ok. Realize that it was extremely busy so not sure if that can be helped.
I took my boyfriend to Firefly for his birthday brunch today and it was great! The hostess was very welcoming, and our waiter Gregory was really wonderful. He was so kind , a great server, and considerate of my food allergies and even had a special treat at the end of the meal to celebrate the birthday. We both enjoyed our meals very much and would definitely go back to Firefly. (Also, they have a really extensive gf menu; it's so nice to go somewhere that I have choices and don't just have to pick from only one or two items).
Went for brunch; not a huge selection, but ok. No pica de gallo for the breakfast tacos. Pancakes had granola on top. Weird.
I highly recommend the burger with fries! The crispy Brussel Sprouts are also a delicious starter!
The Bartender, Brendan, shared a wonderful handcrafted Thai Basil cocktail syrup. Service was excellent. Peter
I took my cousin, his husband and my niece for drinks and dinner. We all had a wonderful time at this restaurant. I'll definitely be visiting again. The only thing that surprised me is that they ran out of Stella... I only had two then switched to wine...other than that all was good... Thanks again

I normally really enjoy the brunch here, and it's one of my go-to places when people come to visit. However, the last two times I have come, I have had exceptionally poor service. My most recent experience has really dissuaded me from returning. When we arrived, we waited at the desk for at least 5 minutes. Staff kept walking by and though many noticed that we were waiting to check in for our reservation, no one stopped to seat us or tell us that someone would be there shortly. Once we were seated, it took us a while to get menus, and quite a long time before we could order. When we asked our waiter to order, he was quite short with us, and told us he would come back. He did not return for 10 more minutes. We had the same issue when we tried to order our check.
I really liked the brunch here, but the unpleasant service was not worth it.
They brought a nice little birthday surprise to my aunt, whose birthday we are celebrating.
Ambiance was nice but the food was truly disappointing. Appetizers too small for three to share. Risotto the tasted like undercooked rice. Desert was very good.
