Went down brunch. The eggs Benedict we're very good, as was the French toast and pancakes. We arrived too early for bloody Mary's, but other than that it was a pleasant way to spend a Sunday morning.
So sorry you dropped the cheese board. Also, leave bacon out of the Brussels sprouts. Otherwise, it was terrific !
Overall, a great experience. I thought my wife and I were extremely well taken care of. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Definitely a cool place with the tree in the middle!
Excellent happy hour probs, tasty food, beautiful rustic ambiance.
Nice spot for dinner for an early dinner. The staff were pleasant providing insights about the menu, limited but everything we tried was very good, soup of the day, salad and short ribs. I was meeting a friend, they did rush us as we took our time with our meal and catching up, it was perfect.
We went to Firefly with our two children and we were so surprised how friendly the staff and servers all were. We also enjoyed the food. It was wonderful. We also had an opportunity to enjoy the happy hour. Loved the steak burger!
Very limited menu and what I wanted wasn't even available. Dishes were mediocre. The grilled chicken on my Cesar salad was cold. Restaurant was empty. I wonder why.
Fantastic evening with family for my birthday. I lov d the atmosphere and general vibe.bthe service on and off but very knowledgeable. The gluten free attention was very appreciated.
Service was slow and inattentive. Beverages weren’t replenished and we had a better short rib from a university dining service. Our granddaughter loved decorating her own cookie but never got the fries she ordered as a side to her kids meal.
Staff was doing their best but service was slow and some errors due to servers being overwhelmed- they did not have sufficient staff to make Sunday brunch pleasant
The food was good but the service was really slow. And two people around us received their order and it was wrong. Table next to us waited about 25 minutes for their drinks and finally told waiter to cancel.
Food was good, but limited brunch menu. Service was slow and disorganized. Watched two parties walk out before they even ordered.
Firefly provides a delightful experience for young and old alike. My wife and I started off with the smoked fish plate, which we would enthusiastically recommend. Next, we ordered the steak frites and the roasted chicken. Both were delicious, but the steak is a standout, particularly if you like it marbled. Our son had a rather boring pasta dish, but there are certainly great options for kids on the menu. He also enjoyed making and eating his own cookie. Dessert is nothing special; after all, I can make a root beer float or a sundae at home. Firefly's ambiance is agreeable, with just the right level of noise for a small group of friends or a family. Decor a forest scene that is simple, elegant, cute and unique. Service was rather indifferent, but our server may have been a trainee. We'll definitely return next time we're near Dupont Circle. Firefly is a winner.
We chose Firefly because they offered a number of Gluten Free options, and I have celiac disease. While their kitchen is not GF certified, their staff was knowledgeable and I felt confident in ordering there.
It did not disappoint.
The cocktails were great, we had the braised beef and grilled cauliflower entrées and would happily recommend either of those.
In short, I'd go back in a heartbeat for the drinks and ambiance alone - but it helps that the food was excellent.
The place was not packed, however, there was a line to get seated (even with a reservation) because the hostess was waiting for tables to be cleaned. Once seated it took about 10 minutes to be greeted by the waiter who was great but had a lot of tables. Mimosas were average. Food was disappointing. I ordered the French toast which was one slice of bread. As a side (extra cost) I ordered the breakfast potatoes which had an extremely smoky taste. Maybe my friends and I caught them on a bad day, but I wouldn’t chance it and go back.
We returned to Firefly after numerous prior enjoyable meals and experiences. Our food was excellent, good value and excellent service. We frequently visit this neighborhood in Washington DC and are pleased that Firefly remains a reliable local option.
Very expensive, staff (excluding our waiter) was rude
Food was delicious. Portions for the price was great! However, they didn’t have avocado and three different menu items which was a bummer.
Food was great. Was seated 15 minutes before the server took a drink order. Hostess took our name, said she would be back and left us standing at the front stand for several minutes. The restaurant was not busy, so it didn’t make sense
Restaurant is very kid friendly so be prepared.
Great trendy spot in a key location.
Very good food with an interesting menu.
it was great! But , I had my husband and son who wanted the gluten free bread. They didn’t have anymore
Best restaurant ever my kids and I agreed. Delicious food and amazing creative kid friendly service. Without being a “family” restaurant atmosphere.
Went for breakfast on a Saturday morning.
It was fairly empty when we arrived - but the place quickly filled so for sure have a reservation if you go on a weekend for breakfast.
Breakfast tacos were delicious - not just boring eggs in tortillas. Really really good. And well portioned - could easily feed two.
Avocado toast was a nice option for one in our party who can’t eat meat or dairy. Delicious.
French toast also super generous - excellent
Wait staff attentive but unassuming. Perfect.
A little pricey for breakfast but for a casual place in Dupont Circle with great food, generous portions, and awesome service, it was worth it. Thanks Firefly.
Everything was fine except that my sausage biscuits and gravy had almost no sausage in it. Still tasty, but disappointed that $15 doesn't get me an actual sausage. Other pictures showed two links of sausage and I was informed that it was an old recipe. I just wouldn't recommend ordering this dish, everyone else's meal looked as expected.
Excellent service. Very good food. Kids menu & kids can decorate their own cookie, chef bakes it, then it's served.
Our server/waiter was completely inattentive. His ‘I don’t care’ attitude was a poor compliment to great food. very disappointing.
We have dined at Firefly once before and loved it. The food is amazing! This time it was more like Firefly Preschool. Every table had multiple babies and toddlers. It was like eating in the bouncy room at McDonalds or Chucky Cheese. We had our adult daughter and 2 of her friends. It was bizarre and not fun for them at all. I was embarrassed this was where we took them for a dinner in dc. . The strollers kept coming in even at 9pm on a Saturday. Clearly the place for upscale preschool dining. But not for anyone looking for an adult dinner and cocktails.
I only went for happy hour, so this review might be skewed. But they have many of their main menu items on the HH menu, just at a cheaper (i.e. more reasonable) price.
I ordered the brussel sprouts, a fish taco, and the truffle fries. The brussel sprouts were fine, the taco was very chewy, and the truffle fries just tasted like regular fries. My friend's mac&cheese wasn't very cheesy, so she said it was more like regular pasta.
So, if you're going to have "meh" food, you might as well get it during HH instead of paying full price for it. But the location is good, the nature-inspired ambiance is nice, and our server was friendly and attentive.
Service was slow, although the restaurant wasn’t busy. Food came out very quickly once we were able to order.
We came for brunch on a Saturday. Very cute restaurant, good brunch ambiance. The crab avocado toast and banana-coconut pancakes were absolute perfection! Our waiter, however, was distracted, or perhaps just uninterested, but either way, was remarkably inattentive for a fairly slow morning. We will return because of the food and the very charming interior, with fingers crossed for a wait-person who is happy to be there.
We went to Firefly before a show at the Keegan Theater. I mentioned we were there because they were a partner with the theater. They did not give us the discount that they advertised on the website for the restaurant and the theater. When we asked for the specialty drink that was made for the show they said they did not have them.
Quaint little eatery that we stopped by for a quick breakfast before heading to the airport. My friend and I sat at the bar. The staff was super friendly and accommodating making conversation and making sure that we didn’t need anything. Kudos for the friendly staff. The food was definitely decent. Nothing that I’ll write home about but definitely solid. The biggest complaint was the swarm of fruit flies that were surrounding us and everything at the bar. Perhaps look into taking car of that as it is distracting to eat while swatting fruit flies.
The food was great. I thought their prices were a little high for what they offer.
Food was great, which is important. But:
Bartender was maybe the worst I’ve ever had - like one you’d find at a Super 8 motel on the 1am shift with a fake smile and a pack of cigs stashed in her bra. She was WAY out of her depth, spilling drinks and slinging hardware all over the place. While pouring my guest’s drink (which ended up tasting TERRIBLE), she spilled at least two shots worth of liquor on the floor while making one drink. Such a waste for the restaurant (think of how much money they lose to spilt liquor if she does this all the time)! Then when she delivered the drink dripping wet down the sides from where she spilled all over, she didn’t give any napkins. When my guest got up to get napkins to clean it up, she threw side eyes at us. The HH prices are actually pretty good, but I would never recommend any of my friends here in fear of them being served by Super 8. I would be so embarrassed if I owned this restaurant!
Server was nice but only came around two or three times the whole night even though the restaurant was maybe 10% full.
Environment felt uncomfortable, crude, and somewhat dated. Not like the upscale setting I was expecting. You could tell they tried with the scenery, but landed somewhere between a pop up bar and Narnia on a cheap community theater budget.
The only thing the managers of this place have done right is hiring the chef.
The food was good. We took advantage of the DC restaurant week menu and thought that it was a great value. We also thought that letting the kids decorate their own cookie while they are waiting for dinner to come out was a brilliant idea!
Restaurant week in dc - and we enjoyed it very much!
Plates were a little pricey for small meals...I had 3 small carrots on my plate as the vegetable. Cute place though and the food was good.
Great food, drinks, and customer service
Absolutely wonderful - the setting is quite divine with the gorgeous tree in the middle and noise cancelling sculpture on the ceiling. Our meals were absolutely delicious and the cocktails to die for. We will be back
