Great food and comfortable atmosphere!
Great service and food. Pricey, but a good special occasion place.
It was very loud making it difficult to hear others in my group. Service was very slow--it took a long time for a waiter to come, but once the order was placed the food came quickly.
Firefly was a solid if uninspired brunch option. The food was good though not special. Our waiter was very helpful; the hostess was dreadful. It’s a convenient option but I wouldn’t go out of my way to return.
Overall an enjoyable experience but not anything particularly special. Meatballs and calamari were very good. Duck wings were a bit dry with not meat on the bone scallops were well prepared. Pot roast was a bit dry and not particularly interesting. Service was good at the bar but a bit slow at our table - particularly refilling wine (we had a white and the bottle wasn’t at the table so we couldn’t top up our glasses ourselves).
Perfect little brunch spot that accommodates Gluten Free and Vegetarian Diets
Nice ambiance for Saturday brunch, our server was pleasant and attentive, and food was excellent.
Would definitely go back
Wife is GF with a Chicken Allergy. She was able to enjoy wings (duck wings) for the first time in well over a decade. Highly recommend the scallops and the Brussel sprouts. Extensive GF Menu. Expect to spend over $100 for 2 with drinks & appetizers. Worth it if you can.
I love this place! And overall the food and drink is excellent, with fun and shareable seasonal dishes. The only weak link was the crawfish risotto, which was strangely sweet and liquidy. Otherwise, the meal and service were stellar. Thanks for a lovely evening!
Good local selections at a reasonable price.
We were placed in a hallway near the kitchen. The food was not good, chicken dry, vegetarian entree really bad and risotto runny and without flavor
Despite having a reservation and many empty tables available, we were placed in the corner near the server station where it is dark and a little dreary.
Great for a weekday lunch. Service was excellent, food was outstanding in this neighborhood gem.
Service slow though it was a slow Sunday night. It took at least 20 minutes to get a cocktail for our party of four. Menu too short.. two in our party weren’t inspired and just ordered a $22 burger and truffle fries. Burger was better than average, though. House Chardonnay not great, but wine list had some decent $50 a bottle choices. Firefly used to be great, now I don’t think I’d go back.
Despite the noise levels and the room packed uncomfortably tightly, I would return for the food. Best Eggs Benedict EVER!
For a GF diner, sometimes it’s hard for me to find a great restaurant with hearty GF meals and desserts, but Firefly has a large selections of hearty and wholesome and what’s more important, delicious meals. I was so happy I could eat GF bread to go with my dinner and also the desserts were so yummy! Definitely a keeper! Thank you so much!
Good location, good food, and excellent service. Would definitely return.
Very busy, our waiter was extremely pleasant but likely overwhelmed with the number of tables he had to work with. We often had to flag him down.
We eat at firefly for breakfast each time we travel to DC. Delicious food and great atmosphere! Have not had a meal we didn’t enjoy.
Nice, cozy restaurant. Would gladly eat there again.
They have seriously incredible drinks but the food is not worth the cost. The place is also incredibly loud, especially in the main dining room. The service, however, is excellent- I highly suggest for tapas and drinks with friends rather than a traditional dinner.
I would recommend it, however, for kids. Good menu selection for the little ones and each is given a cookie to decorate. My chicken dish was super bland. I enjoyed my child's mac n cheese more! Crab risotto was a hit at the table though. We were given bread plates, but never offered bread.
Not my first time having brunch in Firefly, this time around service was horrible.
Had brunch this past Sunday. Had reservations (a must). Sat at high top (nice). Christopher was our waiter (very attentive and personable). Restautant was packed. Food very good and unique with a Mediterranean twist. Christopher helped with menu recommendations and they didn’t disappoint. Laid back and not pretentious. As far as the “cons”-overall temperature in the venue was warm-I have hot flashes 😥and found I needed to step outside to cool off. My spouse (not menopausal) was warm too. Lastly, was the hostess. Not personable and appeared to struggle with reservations and walk ins. There wasn’t a smile or an apology (except once) for lack of a response or the ability to find an option for guests. On more than 2 occasions, waitstaff approached hostess about waiting customers and their ability to seat them. Maybe new or a fill in but either way, didn’t work and the worst part of the experience.
For springtime people watching, if you can grab one of the tables right by the huge open window you won't be disappointed. For eating, casual comfort food that can't be beat. The burgers are wonderful. Eggs Benedict with prosciutto rock.
We've gone for dinner and the service/food was always wonderful so we suggested it when my parents wanted to go out to eat. This was our first time going to brunch and while the food was just as wonderful the service was very lacking. The front desk was a bit moody when I told them my parents were running a little late then again when seating us. Our server didn't read that his jokes weren't going well at all with my mom (she's pretty light hearted but these were pretty bad) and they served all our food at once instead of the small plates first. When noted about it our server went "Oh you didn't tell me to do that" and pretty much ran away. Refills on coffee and drinks were lacking and everything was just off. So we'll just stick to dinner whenever we decide to go again.
I'm sorry we dropped the ball on service and that you endured the comic styling of the team. We'll work on our timing for our dishes ...and our delivery. Thank you for the feedback. I'll bring all this to the service team.
Loved the menu and the food was incredible.
Very limited lunch menu
We came here after a funeral with the pastor who officiated and had a lovely informal lunch- as always, staff couldn’t have been nicer. Noise level was high at first, especially for the older folks, but it quieted down
The kids menu said “cookie dough given for kid to make cookie for dessert” which never happened. I got the duck and it was very very chewy. My white wine was luke warm. My sons burger was over cooked and blackened on one side. The apple crisp with maple syrup - if you like a bottle of maple syrup poured in then this is for you. One spoon and it was sickening. This is such a shame. I went here 5 years ago and loved it. This was our worst meal in DC this year. So disappointing.
Thank you for the feedback. We always need it to inform our seasonal menu. Sorry if we put your day on a downturn. I know we can do better.
Our actual server was fine. I rated the service as low however because I found the hostess to be incredibly rude. I visited Firefly on March 28, 2019. My reservation was for 6:15, but I showed up at 6:05. Thinking my friend was close, I said that I'd wait until my friend arrived before being seated. However, at 6:10 she texted me and said that due to traffic she wouldn't arrive until 6:30. I then asked the hostess if I could be seated, as there's no place to sit and wait other than the bar. If she had said that no, my entire party needed to be present for me to be seated, then I would have waited, or I would have then gone to the bar. But she sighed deeply, looked at the open tables, sighed again, looked at her computer or whatever, then said, "Come with me," in a manner that was not at all pleasant or welcoming. I said "I was here on time - I can't control my friend." She gave me a dismissive look, to which I said, "I'm sorry that somehow my request bothered you." She said "It's not that I'm bothered - it's just that now the server will need to come back and forth several times." As a hostess, she should not make a paying customer feel like they are somehow putting her or a server out. She should either have politely asked me to wait to be seated, or invited me to wait at the bar, or she should have pleasantly seated me without giving me attitude, and trying to make feel like I was putting a server out. As it was, I simply told the server that my friend would be arriving shortly, and that he didn't need to worry about me until my friend arrived, which she did by 6:30. I will never eat at Firefly again.
Very charming restaurant! The atmosphere is really great for a date or a dinner out with friends. The duck wing appetizer was phenomenal. Both entrees that we had were fantastic. The Kobe Burger is standard on the menu and was so flavorful and cooked perfectly. The Roasted Chickpeas were an excellent vegetarian option. The drinks were also very good. Our only disappointment was dessert. The apple crisp was too hot to eat, with nothing cold on top to help chill it. Once we could eat it, it was overly sweet. Overall a very nice experience and we will likely go back.
If you are looking for great drinks and an outstanding happy hour, look no further! We arrived around 5:30pm to enjoy the happy hour prior to our reservation at 7pm. The deviled eggs and fish tacos were great, so were the drinks! At our table, the service was great. The full-priced drinks felt experimental and exciting. I also really loved the decor. The food at our table was less than we expected from the reviews and the food at the bar. We will probably never eat here again, as there are much better food options nearby. However, we will definitely start our nights here with happy hour.
This is such a great restaurant. The staff is very friendly and they did a great job accommodating our son. They gave him a sugar cookie to decorate, that they baked then brought to him for desert!
The restaurant itself is very cozy and has this amazing tree with lights on it in the middle of the restaurant. We went here for Sunday dinner and it wasn’t too busy so that was nice.
The food was great! I had the scallops which were cooked perfectly, my husband had the pot roast which was tender and delicious.
Overall we had a wonderful time here and would love to go back. We loved everything about this restaurant.
Thanks for the rave. I'm so glad you feel the same way. Its home to us and we're glad you felt welcomed.
Overpriced, unimaginative mediocre food,
Loved the food and atmosphere! Hostess was pretty rude when we arrived. May not be the best person to be at the front of the house. Other than that, no conplaints!
Oh no! We want you to feel at home from the door. We'll work on our delivery at the front. Thanks for joining us.
I was disappointed in the experience that my boyfriend and I had at Firefly. He picked it out for his birthday brunch due to a good looking menu and $3 mimosas, but when we got there it was understaffed and therefore ruined the experience. It took 10 minutes to have someone greet us at our table and then longer to get our first round of drinks. The server was really nice but it was evident that he was overwhelmed. He explained to us that they were understaffed and either said that he wasn't even supposed to work that day or that he wasn't even a server there. I don't blame him for our slow service, I just feel really bad that it was such a stressful morning for him! The food was great and I'd give Firefly a second try, but hopefully next time there are more people working because we would have bought many more mimosas but it was so slow it wasn't worth it...
Thank you for your patience. Now and then we have a day we come up short. The brunch team are all superstars thought and they always pull through. It's time to add to our family. By your next visit you'll be seeing some new faces and some returning to Firefly too.
Excellent food, and my mother — who has a severe gluten allergy — greatly appreciated the care and attention that the staff gave to accommodating her. Thank you!
A very rude manager at the entrance, making galant of a non friendly behavior toward clients.
I used to love this restaurant for years, but it’s gone downhill badly. The wait service now knows very little about the menu. Their was no attempt to accommodate a request for a vegan entrée. The only vegan option available was a wheatberry risotto, and it’s the only time I’ve ever ordered a meal that was so bad that it was inedible. I don’t understand how someone could have put that recipe on the menu, it was plain awful. I was very hungry but I still couldn’t eat it. After paying $140 for two persons I went home and cooked frozen food.
Thank you for the feedback. We just changed our risotto to reflect the season. It can always be made vegan but be have added new dishes to accommodate since your last visit as well. I'm sorry you didn't love it as much as we did. Chef is always updating the menu and the feedback is helpful.
