Firefly was an excellent restaurant that actually felt natural, often a hard-to-find feeling in the DC restaurant scene. The service was impeccable, and the dishes delectable!
The food is tasty and large proportions and moderately priced. The service on our visit was less than attentive.
My family and I ate here 2 years ago and loved it! Cozy vibe, great food and service. This time it was not the case. The food was mediocre, shells and cheese had no flavor, my daughter ordered a hamburger without cheese medium, it had cheese and was well done and burnt. Our server never smiled and barely spoke to us. He made us feel so unwelcomed, from the moment we sat down. Maybe because we only ordered water...? 95 degree day and we were dehydrated. sorry! The manager came over and tried to make things right, he was very nice, but too late at that point. Sadly, we will not be returning. Try Clyde's, or another of the cities amazing choices.
Food was quite good, service was great. Would return again if near the area.
Delicious food, wonderful for my friend who is gluten free!
Was ok - nothing spectacular. Host and initial waiter seating us were very friendly. Our waiter however was not very friendly or hospitable. Maybe just a bad day for them but did not make our dinner any better. The octopus appetizer was actually quite good. However our main dishes were just ok. Nice that they have a gluten free menu. Did not have dessert. Would consider going there again to try other items if I was near there and needed to get a bite to eat. However, there was not enough there to make a special trip or go out of my to go back.
Always enjoy stopping here for lunch. Service was good.
The food is consistently good, creative, fresh. Friendly service-pricing is within reason for downtown DC. Nice option for a casual meeting spot. Happy to head back there anytime!
I booked Sunday brunch for a group of 7 friends and it was great experience. The brunch menu is diverse with several good options for vegetarians and portion sizes are large (perhaps too large as several of us could not finish). The brunch cocktails, mimosas and bloody marys, were only $3 and $4 respectively. We ordered two carafes of mimosa and I thought that the cocktail was on the weaker side. Nevertheless, the mimosa was still enjoyable and a good time was had by all - I would recommend brunch at Firefly.
Amazing food! The Chicken was delicious.
Nice ambiance. Seated 2 minutes within reservation time. A little pricey, but have been told, that’s just DC.
Overall experience was “meh” it was so HOT in the restaurant and my (white)wine wasn’t very cold. Food was decent ... been wanting to check this place out for a while now since I live close by but I don’t plan on coming back. Our server was great - very attentive and always checked on us. Sorry I don’t like complaining in the restaurant so I tend to do it all here.
What a great find in DC . Service was excellent and the food was just amazing. Love the sugar cookie touch for the kids.
Delicious food, served promptly, great service!
3 of the 4 in our party were gluten-free and we were able to pick almost anything on the menu! This grass-fed beef burger and fries were one of the best I've ever had. I will go again the next time I'm in DC. This place rocks!
Incredibly loud, nearly impossible to have a conversation.
Great DC option for gluten-free. Food was great with many choices.
We had great service and the food was so yummy! Atlanta friends 😀
Child's menu good. Very noisy. Regular menu lacks regular items. Wine list very expensive for neighborhood. No happy hour on Saturday.
We were a party of 5 for Saturday brunch. Seated quickly, service was great and very attentive. Food was excellent. We'll definitely return.
When I arrived, there was some confusion about where to see me. But, I did end up in a very nice position. I found the wait staff to be very helpful. They were also very kind and accommodating. I thought it was a tad bit hot in the place. It just felt a little stuffy. I enjoyed the food. I thought it was fine. I would go back.
Lovely location. Good food. Well attentive staff. A bit loud for conversation.
Been here for HH a few times and enjoy the menu. I was most recently here for breakfast and the service and food was meh. I had to ask several times to have my water refilled although we were one of two tables in the dining area. I had the breakfast tacos and my friend had the french toast, both of us felt the food was bland. The tacos really had little flavor. I would still rec for HH although they are busy and service can be hit or miss, and the coffee is good. The atmosphere is always nice, having a cozy feel it does redefine hotel dining.
Great for children and families. Not a lot of high end restaurants make themselves child friendly and it’s great to have this option.
Overall the experience was fair at best. Steak was particularly below average (especially for the price) with the other food items being average or slightly above average. Wine menu was below average. The service was very good which made the overall experience bearable. Would not recommend to others and will not be going back. Dissapointing as I just moved back in to the neighborhood and was hoping for FireFly to have improved since my last visit 2 years ago.
We had the octopus and shrimp and grits which were both excellent, then the whole sea bass which was perfectly cooked. Had carrots and Brussels sprouts as sides which were a bit too rich to have with fish, but were very tasty. Would have gone better with the steak or pork more likely. Service was excellent - we had no issues at all and thought he did a wonderful job. Highlight was the cookie they give kids to decorate and then bake while you eat so they can have it for dessert. Super cute idea. All in all we loved it there and will return when we come back to DC.
Pricey, a little bit of attitude that was appreciated
It took 15 minutes to get water and 40 minutes to have our order taken despite a reservation and a few prompts, which was a problem with a small child. The service was friendly and the food was good, if a little expensive.
Amazing place. Very creative menu, delicious food, great drink offerings...and so kid friendly! Great dinner, great service, highly recommend!
Wonderful food. My wife loved the shrimp and grits and we both loved the brussel sprouts. The carrot side dish was unusually good, and Yukon gold potatoes were very good as well. The chocolate pot de creme was the best chocolate dessert we have had in years. Informal dining at its best!
We went there four years ago while visiting n wanted to try it again since then. My husband also gt a complimentary mimosa for his birthday... that was very nice of them...
Nice treehugging atmosphere, creative use of space with leaf-shaped soundboards overhead. Orange juice was fresh-squeezed. Eggs very fluffy and bacon crispy. Potatoes well seasoned.
We made a reservation in advance for Mother’s Day. I selected the restaurant based on the fun theme that was described as I thought my kids would enjoy it. We were very disappointed to be seated in a plain room on the rear with absolutely no ambiance. We had to flag down waiters to get anything and just found the entire experience very disappointing. Not worth the time/travel from our hotel on the other side of town in our opinion.
Only recommendation is season the batter for the kids fish meal. It was bland. The Chilean Sea Bass was amazing!!!
We had high hopes. Firefly has a cool vibe. Unfortunately the temp indoors was a good 80 degrees so that wasn’t cool. Then our dinner took 40 minutes to arrive with no acknowledgement, which wasn’t cool. Especially since we arrived to an empty dining room. And everyone around us was eating while we still waited. Then two burgers arrived that were ordered medium but were decidedly rare, which was far too cool. Then the second round took another 20 minutes, which just was what it was. Anyhow, the manager dropped by and apologized and comped the two burgers. So, essentially $150 for that experience felt a bit much. Oh well, restaurants sometimes have off nights and sometimes one group gets unlucky. It happens. I should say that the other food that was cooked well was excellent. Sea bass and pasta and steak were all yummy.
Great restaurant for gluten free brunch options. Beautiful design, attention to detail, friendly staff. Very enjoyable visit. Especially loved our South Carolinian waiter who u derstood our Southern accents. :)
Our experience at Firefly was dismal from start to finish. Upon arriving, I went to the hostess who proceeded to raise a finger at me while she fumbled through her computer for a few minutes. Then, we sat down and were given menus, after which the waitstaff ignored us for the next 15 minutes, without asking us if we wanted anything to drink or if we were ready to order. When the waiter food arrived, the portions and the presentation were both off and the taste was average at best. My friend ordered a side of toast to eat with his omelette and the waiter forgot about it and came back to ask us what kind of toast he wanted about 25 minutes later, once my friend was almost completely done with his meal. Not once did the waiter ask us if we needed more water or coffee.
I had a reservation for 8 people for next week which I will be cancelling after this experience at Firefly.
A delicious brunch was had by all three of us!
Service was perfect and food presented well. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Several of us had dietary restrictions and they were good about accommodating that.
Service was uninformed. Interior is outdated.
Nice folks but for the price not anything really special.
