Firefly at the Dana Mission Bay Ratings and Reviews
Not impressive, service was just okay, both of our $30 entrees were not cooked properly and had to be recooked (and we hate sending back food, but they were just so far off) and we didn't even get an apology from the manager (after watching the server go show him and explain what was going on). It's a bummer because the location is great, but we won't return for dinner again.
We received outstanding service from Amanda and the rest of the Firefly team. The food is always excellent, and you can't beat the view of sailboats on Mission Bay. The fried calamari with frisee, thinly sliced flash-fried garlic, and chipotle sauce was absolutely great, and a highly original version of this often poorly done dish.
Enjoyed a great meal ... the salmon was fantastic and the sea bass also. I would generally rate the noise level as "moderate", as the four of us were able to have great dinner conversation; however, a large group was seated directly behind us about half-way through our meal, and from that point on, conversation was quite a challenge. The server did offer to move us, which was appreciated, but unnecessary, since we were nearly done. And the large group was just having a good time in a small restaurant. Nobody's fault, nothing to be done but enjoy the evening, which we did!
Staying at hotel and thought we'd try restaurant. Service was good, although a bit slow considering there were only 2-3 other tables seated. Had linguini and clams-pretty bland. My son had the Kobe burger. Good fries, but burger was overcooked and dry. He asked for medium and got well done. Dessert made up for it-excellent cheesecake and presentation
My family and I went there for Easter Brunch and the experience was fantastic. The buffet was presentable had anything you could want. The food was delish and the ambiance was perfect with the water next to you. The service...where do I start! The next time you're there, you have to ask for LYLE. He's the man! He made our experience even that much better. He was very attentive and hospitable while serving us. Thank you LYLE. We will be back.
Although this place was quite small, you didn't really notic it once you were seated. The view of the marina was nice. Excellent appitizers (the portions were quite large). Had the warm brie plate and the tomato bisque w/grilled cheese, yum! Was able to bring more than half the cheese plate home for a snack the next day. The kobe burger was thick and surprisingly well cooked and still juicy. The filet mignon was done well and still tender, flavored excellently. Fresh green beans and neat fingerling potatos mashed with cheese. For dessert we shared the tropical napoleon stack which was so light and refreshing after the large meal. When you break the thin cookies the small diced fruit pops out like colorful confetti on the plate.
We were celebrating an anniversary last night and all 6 of us were very pleased with the experience. All of the food, which was varied in our group, was delicious - the filets were outstanding and cooked to perfection. The front corner table got a bit drafty when the door kept opening, but otherwise the room was comfortable and hospitable.
The appetizer (calamari) was good. The main courses were also good except for the short rib. I got four pieces of meat, and 1 1/2 pieces were already pure fat. I meant they were literally just fatty white stuff and no meat. Other than that, the filet Mignon and sea bass were terrific. The desert (chocolate hazelnut panna cotta) was good as well. Not too sweet, just the right taste. Take flight offered 4 different types of local beer in small glasses.
We truly enjoyed the meal and service, but arrived too late to get the sunset.
So, make a point to arrive before dark, if that is your thing. A bit higher prices at dinnertime, so
will not be a place we frequent-- but will keep it for special occassional dining.
Although the food was very good, the service was not good at all. This was not the fault of the waitress as she was obviuosly chasing up the kitchen on a regular basis. In the end we left without our deserts as we were fed up with waiting. An otherwise nice meal spoilt by poor service.
My husband and I went for Restaurant Week solely based on their pre fixe menu which looked far better than the others in the area and price category. Other reviews have complained about portions being too small, however we found that they were actually perfect individual sizes. My husband and I can never finish food at restauarnts and usuall end up sharing and appetizer and entree so this was the perfect amount for us individually. The food was fantastic, cooked to perfection and beautifully delivered. The wait staff were very efficient and engaging.
The menu was eclectic but the food was just OK. There was a wedding reception on the patio near us but not sure if that contributed to the inconsistent service. We had two groups in our party of 10 & 12 that were next to each other and serviced by two wait persons. Our waiter did a great job of keeping up with drinks and meals. However, the waitress working the second group disappeared frequently. Our table was finished with dinner before our other table was even served dinner.
We had a birthday celebration dinner that included 2 children. While it was not an extensive menu, we all had something different and everything was delicious! They were most accomodating to the children's needs, the service was personal and prompt and the pricing for the amount and great quality of the food was very reasonable. We had an enjoyable evening!
Just had brunch on Mother's day and we loved this place! The food was great, the setting was perfect, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. It's a shame there weren't more people there enjoying the brunch (better for us, I guess!), since this place is a bit tucked away. The restaurant is not very big, with a few tables outside. The decor is modern but warm, and the resort appears to be renovated, so it's inviting. The food included standard buffet brunch fare, with high quality ingredients. I'd definitely try this place again.
My wife and I were expecting a larger restaurant with many more tables. However, just minutes into our dining experience we were so impressed with the wonderful service and helpful wait staff that the size of the room no longer mattered. The food was excellent, and they were happy to accept the Sign On San Diego food voucher. We of course went over the voucher amount, and left a generous tip for the memory of an excellent dining experience.
