Went there on a date having never been there before, so I was taking a risk. But it was a risk worth taking. Our waitress was attentive and friendly and provided a quality recommendation (pork chop). Date had the burger. The food was prepared to perfection and was delicious. The side dishes were great...not huge like some restaurants, but just the right amount. Good wine selection. Nice atmosphere. You sit close to other patrons, but I could not hear other conversations. I would definitely go again.

Been dining at fire for years. Despite the many nice additions to Cleveland's restaurant scene, fire remains one of my favorite place to eat. Great place to take guests because the menu accommodates so many different palates, including vegetarian and vegan.

Fire is s lovely space to sit on the outdoor and main area (with that big window) we were placed in a banquet room that felt like a nursing home dining hall) service was lousy with drinks delayed for 20' and order done incorrectly). Eggs for my son had to send back since not cooked. Not the fire experience that I have had with eating there dozen of times. Reluctant to go back with many options present. Hope fire reads this review and reflect.

We've come to fire before and always enjoyed the food and service. The food here is always at least 4 stars, with spot-on flavor profiles that are interesting and not boring "modern American". There's always a vegan option, where my husband knows he'll have no egg (he's a picky vegetarian). And unlike most places, the veg option is always tasty and not boring (So sick of eggplant!). The cocktails are alway spot on, and no one can every accuse them of skimping on the alcohol.
But this experience stood out in particular because our server Natalie was an absolute gem. We were meeting another couple, and they were suuuuper late. We thought we were getting stood up, but during the hour wait until the other couple showed, Natalie kept our drinks full with a smile and a joke. She was attentive when needed and stayed away when we didn't need her. We never felt rushed and never felt abandoned either. Perfect experience.

We have eaten in my restaurants in the Cleveland metropolitan area over the years and have found Fire to be consistently excellent. The ambiance, food, and service are wonderful. Look forward to returning for another good meal.

Our adult children from out of state really enjoyed the food they ordered, but the time between ordering and being served was very long. When I asked our server about it, she apologized and explained the delay was because of a new menu that evening. I would think the kitchen staff would have had it down pat before serving it to patrons. The delay, however, allowed us to have a conversation because earlier diners cleared out and we could finally talk at our table and be heard. The noise level was such that I'd think twice before returning to Fire. We thought Chef Doug Katz added a special touch that his patrons obviously appreciate when he stopped to chat at each table. That's a thoughtful touch. But Fire is pricey and for the money I'd prefer to go to a quieter restaurant. But it was a special occasion and our children did enjoy the good food.

Excellent Caesar salad accompanied with individual spoons of capers, egg, bacon, red onion. So darn delicious. Rib eye steak was phenomenal.... We do not eat too much beef so this was a real treat. Opah fish special was a little too rare for me but husband really enjoyed it. Great wine choices & yummy bread with olive oil. Waitress was very attentive and friendly smile.
The owner/chef visited every table and took personal interest in our experience. What a thoughtful touch.

Hands down, this is one of our family's top 3 restaurants in terms of food quality, service, and ambiance. With kids, the brunch selection is stellar. Just with adults, the entrees definitely do not disappoint. Whether you have gluten or dairy (or both) allergy, the staff, kitchen ceee, and chef will do their best to accommodate the diner's needs, without compromising the flavors and dining experience.

Consistently good meal; imperfections can occur anywhere but they should be infrequent and everything was great. Solid recommendations toward and away from some items by waiter and it was appreciated. There is a good reason why Doug Katz has a consistently busy restaurant...its consistently good!

My wife's duck, my chicken livers, and our shared Caesar Salad were all outstanding. After our early 5 PM dinner, we caught the latest Star Trek pic then returned for an after-movie drink at the bar. All of the staff served us well and made us feel very welcome. This was not our first Fire drill; we've enjoyed our experiences in the past and will continue to enjoy more in the future. May they live long and prosper.

We love fire, mostly because we've never had a mediocre, much less, inferior meal there. Even though I am not a vegetarian, I always order their vegetarian selections as they are uniformly delicious, imaginative, and labor-intense to prepare.

I rarely come here and not get the tandoori trout - it is consistently perfectly done. The meat flakes off the bones, is juicy and flavorful, and has that great smell of charred organic products.

We has an early reservation. Server was young, and not as cheery as we like. Think servers are often disappointed when diners don't order drinks. Some of us are recovering alcoholics. Splitting a meal is not so much economics, as having a meal where one doesn't feel stuffed. Food was great.

We arrived early on the evening of July 3 and were greeted quickly and professionally. Asked for an outside table and were seated at a great spot. Stephanie and her team took care of us with grace and poise. It was a leisurely 90 minute dinner to celebrate a recent move to Cleveland. Everything was outstanding! The beet and rhubarb soup paired with the Porkchop and Sauvignon blanc wine was a dream. We will be back many times

Service was fabulous. Attentive but not cloying. Hubby's porkchop a little pink on the inside cuz it was mammoth would be the only negative on either entree. For dessert he had carrot cake. He liked the cake but thought that the orange colored sauce was too much of a departure from traditional carrot cake. He prefers that. I chose the duck confit and it was perfect. Juicy and cooked perfectly. My custardy dessert was delicious.
I would return again but this time for brunch. This night out was after Phantom of the Opera.

The food is excellent, though from a selection standpoint there are only about 10 entrees to choose from. Wine list was long enough. My biggest concern about the restaurant is the seating - tables are VERY close together. Our table of 4 was about 6 inches away from the next table of 2 - they may as well have been dining with us.

Fire Food and Drink is a gorgeous gem of a restaurant in the middle of Shaker Square. I was pleasantly surprised by the prices, portions, and atmosphere, which were all extremely reasonable. Usually in Cleveland, you can pick 1 of those 3 criteria to fall within acceptable dining standards, and the other two will be ridiculously off-base. Not so here. Prices were appropriate to Cleveland and also denoted the quality of the food. Portions were not enormous and also reflected the price. Atmosphere was quiet, not chaotic, not noisy, not full of screaming children, and did not feel like a dive bar. Service was exceptional. After having gone to the other James Beard-nominated restaurant in CLE, I have been so disappointed by the service. Here, the servers were friendly and attentive, and Doug Katz himself personally visited every table. (he made eye contact and smiled at me! I felt like a celebrity!) I shared a sticky bun and a fruit plate with other guests, and I got the almond-stuffed french toast for myself. All were excellent. The almond french toast was pretty impressive because you really got that marzipan/candy-almond flavor, and the sticky bun was incredible. Even the fruit plate was thoughtful--blueberries might have been local, all seasonal fruit, all at peak freshness. This is the restaurant I've been looking for around here. I'll be back for sure.
