Fire at the Ridge
The centerpiece of the dining experience at Powder Ridge Mountain Park & Resort will be the causal dining restaurant, Fire at The Ridge. Fire at The Ridge aims to be an escape for diners, offering private dining rooms and breathtaking views.
"Inspired by native New England flavors and locally-sourced ingredients, Fire at the Ridge is an unexpected gem tucked away in the hills of Middlefield, CT", says Executive Chef Kevin Cottle.
In addition, The Ridgeside Tavern is where Locals have long known the bar at Powder Ridge ski area to be the place to meet up with friends and for creating new friendships that last a lifetime. The Ridgeside Tavern is a twist on old Colonial Taverns, bringing back New England classics with an updated twist. The Tavern serves causal fare, locally-brewed beers and craft cocktails. This is a difficult review. The food has always been very good, but the restaurant is nearly empty any time we've gone there. I've never seen the restaurant advertised anywhere and few of our acquaintances have ever heard of it. I think the menu is more limited than in the past and I have to wonder if it's because the place is rarely full. It's a real shame the owners haven't put more effort into promoting the place.
On this most recent visit the coffee machine was broken. No coffee at a restaurant?? Really??
Only wine by the glass too which is odd.
We sat outside on their patio. Nice setting. We were there for brunch. 19.95 per person got us access to a continental buffet (charcuterie, fruit, bagels), one free cocktail (mimosa, bloody mary), and one selection from their breakfast menu. The meal was okay. Lines up with the price but not much selection and just sort of ordinary. It was nice, we might go back, the setting is the best part. Oh, and the drinks were good.
I’m a repeat customer and always happy with the food and service.
The service was slow but we really didn't mind since we were there with friends to chat about things and to celebrate our June birthdays.
We were not happy with our table as there were 2 air conditioning vents over us and we were freezing. Also we could not hear the comedians. This is the only time we weren’t satisfied and we have been there many times.
It was very nice. We had a table window and the view was nice. At one point we were the only table in the restaurant and we felt we could of had more service. The wait staff was very nice and professional. We will come again.
Food was delicious, and the restaurant itself was beautiful! Will be back very soon.
We arrived at 7:45 for our reservation and no one came out to greet us. When we peeked into the restaurant there were many people in the bar area. We stood there for approximately 15 minutes but we were never assisted. So we left and enjoyed dinner elsewhere.
We actually never got to have dinner during this reservation. We were seated promptly on the patio at 6:30. My husband and I checked out the menu and waited for a server to come to our table. At 7pm after not being acknowledged at all, no offer of a glass of water, no one saying they would be right with us, we decided to leave. We handed our menus to the host, explained what happened and went somewhere else for dinner. Will never be back.
Was busy and loud, but to be expected on Mothers Day Brunch. Had a wonderful meal, food was always fresh and hot. Granted it was busy but only saw server to take drink order, deliver drinks and that was it. Never asked about food, or if we needed any refills. Sat for 10 mins packed up waiting for check before we had to stop server for our check.
Beautiful place but the Mother's Day brunch was not as good as last year's. The lobster eggs Benedict was delicious- but there was only one person at the station so the line was always too long. The shrimp cocktail was also good. The bloody Mary's and lobster bisque disappointing, and there were no bread, rolls or baked goods whatsoever except for dessert items. They did offer several new children's items and the staff was lovely.
Thank you for joining us again. I'll pass on the message on, we always appreciate the feedback. Hope to see you this summer.
The service was poor - felt bad the waitress was young but still felt she was distracted.
The restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere. Our waitress and the staff were very attentive. I was also impressed by the cleanliness of the ladies room. We were disappointed to hear that Hell's Kitchen's Chef Kevin Cottle was no longer working at Fire at the Ridge. I was happy that the restaurant was able to accommodate my vegetarian diet. My meal was delicious. Although, my husband had the Crispy Eggplant Panini and the eggplant was not fully cooked. The eggplant was tough to chew. The coffee cake dessert was very good. We enjoyed the live music. For the most part, it was a positive experience.
We reserved a table of 8 for Easter brunch. The selection was just mediocre and the dessert table was far below our standards for the cost of the meal. The vegetables (carrots and asparagus) were ice cold. Our waitress also spilled part of a glass of wine on our table and did not return to clean it or provide a new place setting. The restaurant itself was very nicely decorated and they may do a better job with a normal (non-holiday) menu. We will not be going back.
Thank you to Fire at the Ridge staff for giving up a portion of your holiday for us!
Highlight for me was cold antipasto & lobster ravioli. Otherwise, nothing to write home about. Food was fresh & hot, unfortunately selections were run-of-the mill, wedding/catering fare.
Unique and exceptional menu, excellently prepared and served at the perfect temperature. The setting was elegant, the chief top notch and talented; I felt I was dining in a Manhattan restaurant.
Always love brunch. Food is great and service Amazing. Never an issue.
We have been here a few times and always loved it. Our last experience not so much. New menu was full of new ideas but fell flat. The cheese platter was delicious. The chile lime shrimp, chorizo over risotto had overcooked chorizo and no lime flavor. The baked truffle mac n cheese with crispy pork bellies was made with a rice not macaroni and the pork belly was not crispy at all. Very disappointing. Live music was loud and it was extremely warm, no AC for a 72 degree day.
The Comedy show was awesome. The food was not up to my expectations. My roast beef sandwich was dry, well done. The French fries were excellent. My reservation was for a table of four. We were seated at a table with back bench. Not comfortable. Disappointed with the seating.
We went for the first time, drawn in by the comedy series. Very pretty place. I would definitely go again.
Decent food and set-up for a comedy show. Unfortunately, I booked (and paid for tickets) on OpenTable and then was charged again at the restaurant. The server was supposed to void the additional charges, and never did.
The comedians were entertaining and worth the price of the tickets. The food was fair...I think it could have been good but the restaurant seemed to be understaffed for the size of the crowd. It took a long time to get our food, and the bacon in my BLTA (?) was quite dry and tough by the time it arrived. The waitperson did the best she could with the number of customers she had to serve.
It’s a gem! Great prices for the quality of food! Couldn’t believe we found this spot and how great the food was. Not expecting will return!
Excellent food as always! Great ambiance, decent service, always a great night out.
I went on a trivia night, so it was a bit loud. A server must have called out because the hostess was the one who took our orders. Our waitress came over once, but the hostess was doing her best helping out. The boys serving the food came up to our table, as well as numerous times not knowing which table the food was supposed to go. Food was good, but service lacking. We just hoped that the hostess received some of the tip because she did all the work.
Excellent food; pleasant but slow service; great menu; great location/atmosphere
Great venue; great food! Plenty of options to choose from whether you want sandwiches or entrees.
The food and drink was very good and the wait staff was attentive. We were seated in the dining room by ourselves, which worked out well for our party. We would definitely go again. If we went as a couple or with friends, would probably prefer to sit in the bar area.
Wonderful! Limited selections on the menu. Drinks were superb. Cheese platter was very tasty. Food was great, but not the most expansive selection. Would try again.
Food was very good. They should offer a couple of specials that are not listed on menu. The menu has great items but could use more entree options.
My wife and I split a salad—- it would have been better if the split was done in the kitchen.
Musicians were talented, but too loud for the dining room dinner hours.
Volume of music was good for later, pub hours.
We still plan to return.
We went for brunch We sat at the bar The service was terrible The bartender walked by us multiple times and saw our empty glasses Never ONCE asked is we wanted anything We had to hunt someone down to get another drink Never asked how our food was or if we needed anything Lots of skiers The noise level was atrocious
Service has improve since prior visits. Food is very satisfying. My husband and I shared the grilled octopus and the baby beet salad. Both were exceptional, plating was beautiful. For entrees I had the Pan Seared Salmon and my husband had the Seafood Bake. Both were very flavorful and cooked perfectly. we shared the Strawberry fritters for dessert which were flavorful but a bit too heavy. We enjoyed the live music in the main dining room.
We enjoyed dinner after tubing with the kids. We were a bit skeptical because upon reaching the hostess stand we were basically ignored by three staff members. One spent forever putting away her stuff and then tying her apron; another told us "she was so out of it" and the third didn't make eye contact. The food ended up being really good though and we had a nice view of the slopes. If they could work on the service this place would be A+
It is a very nice place to enjoy a meal for 2. Upstairs there is an opening in the center that looks down to the first floor. There is just a single row of tables for 2 around the outside of the balcony, making it very private for couples. Service was excellent, and the food even better.
Valentines pre fixed menu. Would love to go back to try their regular menu. Great food
We had a great time and the food was excellent. The server was very patient and accommodated our guest from overseas.
We have been planning to visit since the opening was announced a few years ago and now I am sorry that I waited so long. The dining experience and the food were outstanding. The atmosphere is very comfortable and quiet enough to have good conversation with friends. We sat on the upper level with a view of the skiers, and the skiing in the background enhanced the atmosphere and added to our conversation. From the tasty salad, fantastic hot wings, juicy braised beef and delicious spiced apple desert, the meal was perfect in every way. This is a wonderful restaurant and is now at the top of our list for regular visits.
Went for restaurant week. The braised short rib with gnocchi blew my mind. Portions were very small but u imagine this was because of restaurant week so the prix fixe was $20 for 3 courses. Still left full. Service was great. Can’t wait to ski here more too!
