I was a little disappointed but I did just go to the bar instead of sitting at a table.i got there early before 4:30pm and there was not a visible host to check in with.I will visit this restaurant again next time I will sit at a table. I did find the host while walking to the bar.
It is located off the lobby in the Marriott Hotel. The food was good and the service was very attentive. The only issue was their computer system was not operating and the manager said once it's up he will log our reservation in. Not sure if it was done and if not how do I get the 1000 points.
The staff must have been short handed. We felt bad for our server, but it led to a pretty underwhelming experience. Our wine didn't come to the table until our appetizers and dinners were served. The food was decent and what you would expect of a hotel restaurant. We went about an hour without being checked on and had to repeatedly get up from the table to get anyone's attention.
We were at E Street cinema for a Tuesday matinee then headed to a book event at Sixth & I -and this was a good interlude on a surprisingly pleasant early evening late July. We were welcomed and seated warmly in a place where we had a nice view of the downtown hustle bustle on 12th St- made for interesting people watching! We ordered the Southern burger -came with good traditional chips- and mushroom flatbread-which was actually a thin crust pizza- the best we have tasted outside of Italy. The wafer like crust was topped with a generous helping of mushroom and cheese- very delicious. The crowd seemed a bit casual for this downtown location- but this is a small place and probably a good choice for occasions such as ours.
I had a fantastic meal of crab cake, with fried cucumber as an appetizer. The crab cake was wonderful, surrounded by black eye peas and a yummy sauce. Plenty of food for the price. I had a wonderful, attentive waiter. If I lived in the D.C. area I would frequent here often.
This was good for respite from rain, but my guest and I were disappointed by the lack of fire, and sage in the restaurant. The door signs were also confusing; none directed guests to enter through the adjoining hotel. The menu is basic, but reliable. Fish and chips lacked flavor and were delivered without malt vinegar, but the hostess reacted quickly to save our tastebuds.
What could have been a nice Sunday brunch just went downhill because of our table server. The kitchen staff was on point, the waffles are GREAT, and the food was otherwise suitable if not outright good. But the table service was just lacking, unprofessional, slow and not at all attentive. I downgraded the experience accordingly. I doubt I will return without a reason like a business meeting or out of convenience for the location.
I would not recommend this restaurant. When we arrived, we asked the waiter to check us in on Open Table and they did not. We started with pretzels and cheese dip. Pretzels and cheese did not seem fresh. My husband and I ordered the chicken sandwich and it came with French fries. The chicken didn't taste good, the cheese wasn't good, and the BBQ sauce was watery. I was very disappointed in the restaurant.
Did not expect it to be in the hotel lobby, like I felt like we were sitting in the lobby while eating... but the food and modern take on old dishes was worth it. The fire grilled salad was top 5 salad dishes of my life. We had chicken egg rolls that were fine and the rest of the food filled us up and we left happy. There were a few loud drunk hotel guests at the bar made it feel like a casual place not a good date night but worth it for a bite to eat.
The food was OK. It was filling. We picked this because it is close to Ford's Theater. The specialty drinks are too pricy so I didn't have one. The onion soup was good. The chicken rolls were large for an appetizer, but so thick on one end I couldn't bite through the wrapper. The crab cake sandwich was delicious. The lemon tart was very good.
This was our first visit at the restaurant. I ordered the crab cake sandwich and my wife got wings and a side of fries. The $9 loaded mac and cheese could have used more bacon, salt, pepper, Adobo, anything really. The $3 portion of fries was enough for 2 people and the wings were great. However, my crab cake was burnt on one side. I didn't taste it much and I hate to waste food. The tomato, onion, and pepper chutney took over the sandwich but it was good anyways.
We really hate most hotel restaurants as they sometimes do not cater to the patron as well as a stand a lone establishment. But I could see us coming here again.
Great experience! We were a party of 7 so they opened a private room for us. Kept the door open so we still felt part of the restaurant. Good selection of food on the menu for meat-eaters and vegetarians. Staff was friendly. Nothing too exotic about the menu, but for a business lunch, that's not what you want.
Once again....Souper Soup
I come here for a nice little dinner before Verizon Center events. It's a great way to get away from the noisy, boisterous crowds closer to Verizon. But I also come here for the soups. They are ALWAYS, ALWAYS delicious. I don't know what it is but the chef who prepares the soups knows what he/she is doing. Last night it was Manhattan Clam Chowder. The soups are simply off the planet. And the other items on the menu are consistently good as well. It's just a pleasant place to dine.
Got the skillet cornbread but was disappointed with it. It had a strange flavor. I had the grilled chicken sandwich which was very tasty. My husband had the Caesar Salad with grilled chicken. The salad was mediocre. Waiter was attentive and atmosphere was pleasant
Great place for a business lunch where you can be heard and have privacy. Booths are large and the quiet, reserved atmosphere is soothing and relaxing. Staff are wonderful, they quietly move around without hovering and are very knowledgeable about the menu. More hearty dinner fare was added to the menu recently as well.
A nice find inside the Washington Marriott Metro Hotel, especially for those times when you're too tired or unable to walk far. A nice selection of offerings to satisfy all at the table. Seble was very accommodating and gracious. All in all, this is a nice restaurant to gather with colleagues during a business meeting. The grilled salmon was excellent and there was a nice selection of desserts. Most hotel restaurants offer a similar menu, and this was similar. I do wish there had been a basket of bread on the table and a bigger selection of specialty teas.
