Fire & Oak - Montvale Ratings and Reviews
Overall, I was very impressed with the food. I am vegan and although there was only one vegan option on the menu (a vegetable sushi roll), I ended up having the vegetable sushi roll as an appetizer and the ahi tuna salad for dinner (without the tuna of course). They packed the salad full of extra veg to compensate, and the peanut dressing was really heavenly. I had a very fun experience there when all was said and done, and I left full. :)
We were in the area and wanted to dine at a great restaurant in or near Montvale. We are very happy we dined with you. Everything was lovely - - the ambiance, the service, the menu. We shared a great quesadilla appetizer and then enjoyed our entrees along with a nice bottle of wine. Joe our waiter and Patrick the manager were most hospitable.
We wish you continued success!
I come here on a regular basis as my office is near by. I brought a client and was raving about the seared tuna salad.
While the tuna was good, the lettuce was rancid in spots. I was too embarrassed to say anything to our server because I didn't know the client very well.
It was on a Tuesday if that makes a difference.
Gorgeous place, good food, creative dishes, drinks were plentiful and made exactly as ordered, as was everything else. It is upscale, not moderate, but not insanely expensive.
Construction created an echo chamber, so noise level is high. Fine when we arrived, but getting difficult to talk to each other by the time we left.
Will go back and will recommend to others.
Here's the message I sent directly to the restaurant.
I want you to know what a wonderful waitress Allie is. Sorry, I don't know her last name.
We had a reservation last Sunday, 9/17, 5pm, 4 people.
Allie was one of the best servers I've ever had, and as a retired person, I've had many. She was friendly, attentive, responsive, couldn't do enough to be helpful, explained everything with a smile, and if she refilled my water glass one more time I would have had to swim out of the restaurant. I saw the way she waited on nearby tables and she treated them the same way.
The food was delicious, too.
Please tell whoever who needs to know such things what a wonderful gem you have working for you.
We will certainly be back.
New City, NY
We went with a small group of friends as a mini reunion of sorts. Very vibrant bar scene, even on a Thursday evening, but the dining room is very well insulated for noise so there was no distraction. Very good food and service, will definitely go there again when we are back in the states.
The ambiance of this resturant is its biggest draw. Beautiful and fun inside for a semi fancy date night with good cocktails and drinks. That being said the food is totally par, and the service is very subpar for the price of the food. All plates I've had are just underseasoned and the staff will leave you without checking on you for 30-45 minutes easy. I had to flag a buser down to get coffee and my check after my waiter left for 45 minutes and didn't come back for the rest of the evening. The bus boy became our waiter and was very nice just simply because we made eye contact. I'm usually not one to write reviews or put down a place but for a $60+ a head place I expect better. Also the fact that you have to request "water and bread service" is obnoxious. When paying $42 for a entree you would think they could provide you water and bread when you sit down, and the fact that it says in small print on the bottom of menu That it is "Provided upon request" is just annoying .
Fire & Oak never disappoints. The food is always top notch...prepared well...and reasonably priced. The menu is very varied....there is something for everyone and every type of diet. I have a client in the area...and we always come here for lunch. I really look forward to it as well..and always check the menu beforehand to get a jump start on what I may choose. That's fun!!
This was a very disappointing dinner at Fire and Oak. We were told as soon as we walked in that the kitchen was closing even though we made the reservation on Open Table. That should have been our first clue that we should leave. It was a special occasion dinner after a long day in NYC. Our steaks were improperly cooked and still not correct after being sent back. The manager was made aware but little was done to make us leave happy. I am now So over Fire and Oak. Go to Capital Grill in Paramus. The only thing good about Fire and Oak was the lovely waitress we had that evening. She was so sweet and certainly the food preparation is out of her control.
We r first timers at fire and oak and the consensus was that is a keeper. Beautiful atmosphere cozy dining and the food was Delish. I highly recommend the fried oysters and fried calamari. The oysters were succulent and tasty. The calamari so moist lightly fried nicely done The entries of ribeye , ahi tuna and crab cakes were all great. We were happily stuffed yet found alittle room as we shared a piece of carrot cake. Outstanding!
New, inexperienced wait staff. Evident they are not well trained. Steak ordered medium well was served medium rare. Salad with olive oil and vinegar on the side was served fully dressed with extra oil and vinegar on side. Though these mistakes and others were corrected service and food were well below usual expectation at this restaurant. We are disappointed frequent diners. Hope this was a one time only problem since we dine here weekly.
Love the food and the service.
Portions are more than ample and everything was delicious.
What I disliked was lack of coziness and privacy in the big open spaced dining area. The noise carried, and made for a somewhat of a loud noise level throughout the room. Thus making it difficult to hear
and have an old fashioned conversation. Could use a few buffers here and there to absorb the sound.
Definitely not a quiet evening out.
The prices are very high for what is offered. My steak was dry and my potatoes were greasy. The restaurant is attached to a hotel so we saw a mix of people in loungewear and flip flops as well as formal attire. The food isn't great, but the service and ambiance are very good. I would consider coming back for drinks.
