View Private Dining DetailsHad a business meeting for 8. Great table. Made it for 7 but needed 8 seats and they immediately found us another table. Very reasonable wine list with a great selection. Not to expensive for the group and great food.
I am “regular customer” here - living in Europe makes it a few times a year for me. However, I have been returning to Fior 10+ years and I can say they never let you down. Polite, warm and delicious food. Sometimes they have live jazz music - great plus. Price/performance makes it worth every penny. They beat easily expesive places that claim be italian - Fior is a piece of Italy in SF.
From start to finish our experience was one of overwhelming appreciation for the food, service, ambiance and the (unexpected!) live band and vocalist! Our out-of-town guests were COMPLETELY delighted.
Last night in town and waited too long for some of the better Italian restaurants. We sat down at 8:45pm, plenty of tables to be had. I read a number of reviews and expected better food at the end of the day. Service was good, drinks were good but the food was sub-par. Inside was dated, smelled old, nasty carpet, We were served big pieces of delicious bread but for some reason no Oil? never figured out why. I started with Bruschetta (good), overall our starters were good ( fresh mozzarella and tomatoes), but then the main dishes game. I ordered a pasta seafood (tutto Mare) where the seafood portion was a big disappointment. Mussels were super fishy, tasted one and put the rest to the side. I left most of my plate. My wife's dish was not very good either. I wish I would have ordered the ravioli which was my first choice but switched at the end. We were heading to North Beach for some home cooking but ended up with not so home cooking... oh well, live and learn. Given the food we had, we overpaid for for sure. The staff was very welcoming but I can't recommend this place, it's 2.5 to 3 star (out of 5) but doesn't venture to 4 which is what we were hoping for (and paid for)
Very friendly, very good food and in an historic San Francisco building. Will return.
Very good restaurant, has a lot of history definitely a place to have a good meal
My daughter has donned at Fior D’Italia many times. I was looking forward to eating there on my fist trip to SFO. The food and service were both wonderful. It was better than I could have imagined.
Our waiter, Gil, was really amazing & friendly & fun !!!
We've been to this restaurant several times spanning the past 40 years, and this particular meal was the first at Fior D'Italia in the past ten (we don't live in the area any more). We had a lovely authentic Italian dinner; everything was very good. Our waiter was terrific; didn't hover but seemed to be there when we needed him. We sat at a private table that was quiet and intimate. This is a San Francisco legend. We also found the bar to be a nice spot for a quiet after dinner cocktail.
Mario is great. Always
Food fantastic
Great food in a classic Italian restaurant in North Beach. It was a wonderful evening!
Service was terrible and food was just “okay.”
Quaint cute spot happened to have a live jazz band that just made the night
The service was very attentive, and the food was pretty good. I certainly could have done without the music...and while the combo was good enough and the singer pretty good what I really resented was some lady coming around to the tables with a tip jar for the band. Even though the music was a bit of a distraction, I would have left a tip on my way out, but because I really resented the lady coming to my table, I gave less than I would have.
Wonderful authentic Italian food! Really fast service! Our drinks were never empty! Would highly recommend!
Everything was all right but their prices have increased. It was $120 for just two of us and there was no alcohol.
We had a very nice dinner. The pesto was great and the shrimp dish delicious!
Nice quiet family Italian restaurant. Classy but not stuffy. Clean. Quick friendly staff. Wine selection is weak. We all enjoyed the menu. TY
Five of us enjoyed a long lunch with quiet conversation on a weekday - yummy meal, great martinis, comfortable and cozy, great music playing in the background!
Great service, had a lovely time with my significant other.
Had a great waiter, unfortunately I do not remember his name, but he had great hair! Food was awesome! Chocolate mousse was to die for. Will be back!
Long time Italian restaurant in San Francisco. Comfortable, good service, and good food. What more do you need?
Excellent service and food in a very comfortable surrounding. Worth the trip.
Loved the service, very welcoming and attentive.
Food was very good, particularly the lasagne and pasta dishes.
The dining room could use a bit of sprucing up, but we did love the pressed tin ceiling.
Dinner was excellent. The fresh pasta was excellent
I really wanted to like this restaurant after all the reviews online. I was extremely disappointed in the quality of the food. There were 4 of us and we all agreed. The meatballs were very dense with minimal red sauce and lacked flavor. The pasta Bolognese was also bland and we needed to ask for Parmesan cheese for all of our dishes (shouldn't that be a given at an Italian restaurant - it was not freshly grated which is not a deal breaker). The minestrone soup was good, not great. All of the food was edible but overall it was just ok and bland. No richness to the food. The bruschetta was interesting. The tomatoes were very tasty but there were two slices of toast with tasty tomatoes and garlic, but with field greens and olives. Many people may like that presentation but I prefer bread and tomatoes which is what i ordered, not another salad.
BTW..their bread is very delicious. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside and generous portions.
Great place, service fantastic. Ordered the $75 steak for two which arrived far rarer than asked. They did put it back on the grill but this meant that all other meals were finished by the time the steak came out. Overall really nice place though, thoroughly recommend.
Service was impeccable! Food was fantastic. Everyone practically licked their plates clean. Very generous portions. Noise level was perfect. We were able to speak in normal tones. At times there was a guitarist which was very pleasant. Parking was easy in the neighborhood. Very enjoyable evening!
Service was disappointingly lethargic. The food was very good, and the varied selection of food and wine was excellent. But our waiter was never there when we wanted him.
Everything we ordered here was delicious! I was sold on the photos of the bread and fact that they handmake their pastas. It was everything I could hope for.
I also agree with the previous review that described the gnocchi as melt in your mouth—it was perfection. My boyfriend couldn’t stop eating off my plate, he loved it too. I thought the ambiance was very nice, it definitely has the feel of a true Italian restaurant, and the service was very friendly and helpful too. I definitely recommend!
Very friendly staff. Food excellent. Nice ambience but noisy.
ostensibly the oldest Italian restaurant in the US. Food was good, a little pricey, though.
The fresh pasta was amazing! Good wine, good service, nice/quiet atmosphere :)
We had actually canceled another reservation and chose this restaurant because it was close to Cobb’s Comedy club. We are so glad we did. The Tuscan-style cuisine was incredibly flavorful with no salty taste. Our waiter was engaging and helpful. Though the restaurant is a block off Columbus, it definitely has a neighborhood feel. We look forward to our next visit.
Fior D’Italia is okay. I remember it being really good when it was in the old location, which is now Original Joe’s and this was the first time I’ve been back since they moved. Not sure if other places have stepped up since or if Fior D’Italia has slipped. We order 3 dishes and none of them were good. Eggplant parm was mushy and bland. It didn’t appear that the eggplant had been breaded and fried. Capellini Ragu has a funny chicken taste. Like maybe there was a chicken buillion cube in the sauce? My GF liked it but I did not. The chicken with prosciutto and fontina cheese was decent. I don’t think we’ll go back. If we didn’t live in such an amazing food city, it might be in our rotation, but there are dozens of great Italian places in SF that we prefer.
Valentines Day
Tired with average but expensive food. Not what I recalled from their previous location. There are far better places in North Beach for the same dollars. Pity
Lovely setting. Great Italian cuisine. Friendly staff. Live jazz on Wednesdays.
This is a wonderful classic Italian restaurant. Service was wonderfully old world and food very good. Especially the osso bucco. Very generous portions.
Great experience the food was very good. We were surprised that there was a group with a singer playing music during dinner helped make dinner that much nicer.
