Wonderful old school italian. Food was very fresh and very good - exceptional pasta and salad, and lovely zabaglione with fresh berrries. Waiter was a professional and friendly but seemed distracted, maybe too many tables. Very nice atmosphere and dining room. Great night out
Had dinner here before attending a comedy show at Cobbs. Food was good, presentation ok. My only issue I had is, I mentioned it was my boyfriend's birthday to the waiter and he didn't acknowledge with a small gesture of a small slice of cake or scoop of ice cream....nothing. That was disappointing.
This is a nice classic itailian restaurant but I’m surprised to hear it’s America’s oldest, I just feel like the food there isn’t the quality of what the oldest itailian restaurant in America should be. Don’t get me wrong it’s amazing that they make the pasta everyday, that part was amazing, but I had the Alfredo there and it was just very bland and my dates dinner was kind of dry, I feel more spices should have been added
Great service. Wine was delicious and they sang Happy Birthday and gave me tiramisu. It was great. Table was very organized and beautiful. Please call if your reservation changes. We had originally thought we would have 7 people coming, but a few minutes after getting to restaurant one of our member could not make it. The waiter told us to make sure to call next time if number of people changes.
We have enjoyed dining at Fior d'Italia many times. We LOVE the food, the ambiance and especially the service. It is impeccable, whether there are just a few of us or the whole family including kids. The restaurant is on the small side and so the noise level can get a little loud, but I'm sure we add to that especially when we have the kids with us.
There is usually valet parking which is a huge plus when my 84 year old mom joins us.
We have never had to wait whether we had reservations or not.
The ambiance and food is authentic Italian. As I said the service is impeccable but not 'stuffy'. Fior d'Italia is our 'go-to' place whenever we are in the City. It is definitely worth the drive from north of Santa Rosa for us.

Service was prompt and good. Read comments about slow service, not our experience. Staff was friendly. Unfortunately food was only average. Recommend the veal chop which was good. Rest of meal not so. Calamari rather tough and chewy, egg plan fair at best, linguini with marinara disappointing. Felt like restaurant was resting on it's past.
Found this GREAT neighborhood place by surprise while visiting town. Fisher mans whatf is sketchy with all the homeless but just on the other side of the neighborhood we found this lovely quaint neighborhood with some terrific restaurants

From the maitre d to the cocktail lounge and bartenders, the black tied wait staff, white linen and terrific menu, everything was better than we had hoped.
It is advertised as the oldest Italian restaurant in America. In business since 1880s. That just added to the charm. If you are looking for great northern Italian in a wonderful neighborhood don't overlook this place. We will definitely return to San Fransisco and fior d italia will be at the top of our list. .
This is one of our "go to" restaurants when visiting SF and the Fisherman's Wharf Area. The food and the service are consistently great. The restaurant has a very inviting feeling and we always have a great time whether it is just the two of us or a family gathering.
What an excellent dining experience! Great service, food and ambiance. Love the location in a quiet, upscale neighborhood nestled away from the crowds between North Beach and The Wharf. This SF institution lives up to its billing. We loved so much we've booked a special event in one of their lovely private rooms. Fantastic!
We are from the South Jersey area close to Philly, and we discovered this place 2 years ago, once we knew we were coming to San Francisco, we made Fior our first stop. We were greeted at the door with a friendly Italian “Welcome Home”, not only they meaned it, it actually felt like home, our waiter was very energetic, proud of the place, the food and his work. He has been there for 16 years and went out of his way to tell us about the history of the restaurant. Their Caesar Salad is not just croutons, lettuce and cheese like everybody else, but the right amount of quality ingredients tossed to perfection. Their linguini tutto mare was and explosion of seafood flavors representative of the regions around the Italian coast, their gnocchi is homemade fluffy and light, the Piedmonte sauce was creamy, fresh, great aroma and have the right proportion of ingredients without any flavor overpowering it , needless to say we love this place.
We were greeted by the chef and owner, Gianni, who sat us at a table. Very welcoming. The wait staff was amazing. We ordered and the food was delicious and we were served quickly. The food was presented so nicely. We ordered the ravioli di zucca (pumpkin ravioli) and it was delicious. The sauce was very light and buttery with the sage coming in at the end without overpowering the dish and the pine nuts added a bit of a crunch. A well done dish. I ordered the scaloppini di Dior (veal with a wine mushroom sauce) and it was perfect. The veal was tender and the sauce was exactly what I was looking for. A strong presence of wine blended with the mushrooms and the pancetta ladled over the scaloppini made this exactly what I was looking for. Strong flavors of wine and mushroom with the smoky, salty taste of the prosciutto. Served with nicely seasoned steamed veggies and potato medallions.
My dad ordered the eggplant dish and said it was very tasty. It certainly looked delicious having been baked with marinara sauce and cheese.
Located reasonably close to Fisherman's Wharf, Fior D'Italia was a great choice for an authentic Italian meal. The menu offered a nice variety of choices. Service was friendly and attentive. The food was tasty and nicely presented.
One factor that sets Fior D'Italia off from other Italian restaurants is its decor. It was like walking into a fine hotel restaurant from days gone by. From the tin ceiling tile to the pictures on the walls, I was reminded of what dining must have been like in the early years of the 20th century. There was a subtitle,formal, elegance to the room. Nice!
Good food, good service, and a comfortable environment. Close to perfect!
Time has past this place by. The pasta in all of our dishes was cooked into clumps. The soups were without flavor and the unpleasant servers take tips for granted. The person who seemed to be in charge looked like he had just popped in for a second whilst wearing frumpy clothes
I would give this 5 stars but was very off put by our initial server. First there is two part (the bar and the actual restaurant), there was no outside seating in front of the bar so we went outside the restaurant and the server said we could not have happy hour prices if we sat there and needed to go to the tables (literally 5 ft) to the other side. I think it's ridiculous that they did not want to accommodate the happy hour prices and the server was EXTREMELY rude about it. Normally I would have just left given how rude he was but was meeting a friend so I went to the other side. I'm really glad I did, because it turned my experience around. The bartender (geo?) was so warm and welcoming and definitely made my experience very please the food is awesome! I got the ravioli as an appetizer and the mushroom risotto, both were amazing and highly recommended.
See reviews on Yelp, really great advice there. Excellent food but a bit skimpy on plate size so you may need to order 3 per 2 people or at least appetizers. Wine selection is good, even the house wines were good. I took two teenagers after going shopping and they are generally picky eaters but there were dishes they liked without it being lowest common denominator items like spaghetti and meatballs.
