Fior D'Italia Ratings and Reviews
Fior D’Italia is okay. I remember it being really good when it was in the old location, which is now Original Joe’s and this was the first time I’ve been back since they moved. Not sure if other places have stepped up since or if Fior D’Italia has slipped. We order 3 dishes and none of them were good. Eggplant parm was mushy and bland. It didn’t appear that the eggplant had been breaded and fried. Capellini Ragu has a funny chicken taste. Like maybe there was a chicken buillion cube in the sauce? My GF liked it but I did not. The chicken with prosciutto and fontina cheese was decent. I don’t think we’ll go back. If we didn’t live in such an amazing food city, it might be in our rotation, but there are dozens of great Italian places in SF that we prefer.
This was billed as the best "Old School" Italian restaurant in California. The ambiance was great - they had live music (of the Frank Sinatra variety) and the wait staff was nice. The food however, was average at best. I had the risotto and it was under cooked and bland. My son had the tagliatelle which again was average. Its cool to check out because it is one of the oldest restaurants in SF but don't expect much from the food.
Very disappointed in the service and setting. Our reservation was late (yet accepted) and we could see our waiter was tired. He didn't come around much. Water wasn't replenished, he got most of our orders to the wrong people (musical plates) and one round of drinks was it. In fact, the maitre'd sat in a chair and fell asleep as did another waiter. The began closing the dining room right when our dinners were served, including closing a curtain to one room half way because my chair was in the way. the food was excellent...too bad the environment and staff were unable to make it come to life.
Authentic Italian food perfectly prepared. I had a risotto dish (and there were 3 to choose from), husband had veal picatta (he rarely finishes his meal but for this he practically licked his plate clean), and daughter had the fettucini alfredo and loved it. For dessert we shared a dark chocolate mousse and a tirumisu. They too were fantastic. I highly recommend this jewel of a restaurant for a taste of old world Italy.
When we arrived at the restaurant at 2pm on Christmas Day the host told me we had no reservation although I had made one weeks earlier. After several minutes of confusion we were given a booth in the bar, not the dining room and received abysmal service. Thanks for ruining our Christmas for us and our 90 year old mother.
My daughter and I had gone for Christmas dinner and I could not have asked for a better experience, the food was delicious. The service was kind, courteous and exceptional. They were extremely busy but made us feel very special. Thank you for making a special day for us very special.
I grew up in San Francisco but this particular restaurant was never on my radar. I am so glad it was open Christmas Eve for our three-day getaway to SF from our North Bay home! It was a special meal. We focused on seafood and they did not disappoint, from the perfectly-shucked oysters to the black risotto. We sat at the bar a few minutes waiting for our table, but the server checked up on us, and the bar was its own fun scene--beautiful carved wood bar, by the by. The wine list has many reasonable offerings by the glass and bottle, and we had good guidance on our selection. The server complimented us on our holiday garb (really, just red turtlenecks) and made sure we were attended to. The layout of the restaurant lends itself to people-watching, and everyone was having a great time. This will be a place I return to again and again.
Christmas Eve and the place was hopping! Many family parties made it fun. The osso bucco was well-cooked, falling off the bone with delicious marrow. It was good though not the best I've ever had. The veal chop was cooked just right and the sauce delicious. Though good, the quality of the meat was not the highest.
On Christmas Eve we were a few minutes early for our reservation, we were taken into the dining area by a waiter but left standing in the middle of the restaurant for 5 minutes when the waiter walked away while clearly a table had been set up and was ready for our party of 8. The restaurant was cold and most of our food was served lukewarm which is unacceptable for their high prices. First visit to this restaurant and do not plan to return.
entered restaurant and greeted and sat promptly. we were told who our server was, however he never showed up. it took roughly 10-15 min to be seen by someone. service was nothing outstanding, we got our drink and dinner orders placed, but during the 2.5 hours we were there, our server only swung by once. room for improvement in the service area. food was excellent. had tutto mare; highly recommended.
