Finz Salem Ratings and Reviews
We did go on a Saturday night so that was probably part of the problem but they had run out of both of the dishes I wanted to order. Although we had reservations, you can reserve outside sitting. The wait for outside was 45 minutes so we decided to eat inside.
The clam chowder was only that by name. There were barely any clams in the cup, mostly potatoes and celery. My husband swordfish was very good. He loved it. My fish tacos had nice fresh fish but the overall taste just wasn't there. I get better fish tacos at Margaritas.
And I should say the parking situation in Salem is just as bad as trying to get street parking in Boston.
First time visit and will be back. We ate outside in the back overlooking the boats docked there for a really nice place to eat. Everyone enjoyed their dishes- I had the fisherman's stew which was excellent, others had Salmon, Steak tips and swordfish. Chicken wing appetizer was really good also. Nice place to walk around afterwards also, so overall a very nice evening.
Went to Finz for a late lunch / early dinner. Sat on the deck overlooking the boats. Great fried oyster app, tuna entree was very good, the seafood stew was good but a little overcooked. service was very good - our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. We will be back.
Our top priority was a great raw bar to choose from, and we were not disappointed. The oysters and littlenecks were locally harvested and to die for. Only disappointment was the limited sauce to accompany the shellfish. Just horseradish with a little cocktail sauce on top (not the other way). A mignon or similar selection would have elevated the experience. Super attentive waitstaff. Entrees were all outstanding. We had a wonderful meal.
I heard about Finz from one of my daughters so I tried it with one of my other daughters before she returned to college. I ordered the grilled striped bass and it was served with roasted potatoes ,green beans and carrots, a and a small serving of green salad. It was the best food I have had in a restaurant for a long time. In fact I returned on my birthday less then a week later with 2 of my daughter and 2 of my grand daughters and again had an excellent experience. My spouse has been on a business trip to India and I can hardly wait o bring him to Finz
First of all the service was PAINFULLY slow, and we were dining with a toddler which requires a server that doesn't drag out every single thing. I was constantly having to flag down our server and ask for things, or find out where our drinks or food were. It's not even like it was that busy of a night.
Secondly the entire reason we had booked this restaurant was because it looked like it was on the "harbor" but really for the outdoor seating you're just looking at a small marina on the side. The view isn't great at all, and the sun sets directly into your eyes. The view from the other restaurants on the wharf is MUCH better.
The special of the day Halibut with grilled pineapple was VERY good. The spicy shrimp appetizer was also delicious. The lobster mac & cheese was ok, the cheese flavors were a little more subtle than I typically like. The New England Haddock was very overcooked though and the sherry sauce just didn't compliment it correctly.
They do have a great beer list though.
The preparation of the food was inconsistent. Two meals were great, two good and two were fair. Both fish dinners were over cooked. The lobster ravioli was amazing. It wasn't that crowded but it took twenty minutes to get drinks. I would still give it another try.
we had 4 separate seafood dishes and all were excellent. Paella, lobster ravioli, special (striped bass), and sole were all terrific. Fresh and perfectly cooked. you won't be disappointed. Lemon curd dessert was excellent but not really like a typical curd; more like a lemon mousse. Nice wine selection.
The Finz we knew and loved had disappeared at a recent visit. The food was ok - fried oysters overlooked & tasteless. Too many families with young children - on a Saturday night. What was once a special restaurant with great food, service... Is sadly now ho hum.
Overall...Very Good. Crabtini as an appetizer was outstanding! Drinks were generously poured. Lobster Mac and Cheese was disappointing. :( Service from the bartender was average for a busy place, so a little slack cut there. However, wiping the bar down before new people sit should not have needed a request. Would recommend this place and would go there again. The hostess was very helpful and followed up on a question for a local that she did not know the answer to off the top of her head. Outstanding. Wish I got her name.
We were celebrating our 42nd anniversary and wanted to have an outside peferrably waterfront venue and remembered Finz in Salem, so I checked to see if it was on Open Table. It was and I booked , and was hoping for outside seating.........we lucked out and got a dockside table. All was nice and quiet, and we had a great server in Brittney. She was attentive but not pushy, she even helped by taking a pic for us. Meal was great, ample and tasteful.......followed up with some key lime pie. Another successful Open Table reservation, TY
We were 7 people including 2 teenagers and dietary problems such as gluten and dairy free.
They had a gluten free menu and asked if anyone had allergies. all the dishes were fabulous
and served beautifully. We tasted and shared each others orders and really got a sampling of
the flavors. We stayed with seafood/fish but there were meat, poultry and vegetarian options, too.
Desserts were sinful and we shared 3 among 7 people. Great choice of wines, too.
We chose to sit inside, but the waterside tables looked onto beautiful historic schooners, yachts and other boats.
My friend and I wanted lobster rolls so placing our order was so easy! And the lobster rolls were really delicious! We sat indoor because it was a very hot day, but from our seats next to the window, the view of the harbor was lovely. All in all, we had a great lunch by the water and the lobster was incredibly fresh!
lighting was not adequate for seniors at 1.30 in the afternoon too dark...disappointing for a new england restaurant not too have whole fried clams...farm raised shrimp from vietnam and farmed oysters...uncomfortable seating for a group of seven people...we spent $ 207 dollars and it just was not worth it for lunch
We had a reservation and were seated promptly. We ordered quickly and the first appetizers came. Unfortunately, the wine that they promoted on special, they forgot to chill. They speed chilled to to a moderate coolness, but not to where it should have been. It didn't arrive until between our appetizers and main course. The main dishes were excellent, both in quality and presentation.
We had a delicious meal and our waitress was wonderful. The shrimp enchiladas entree was great, and the tuna tartar appetizer was a perfect start after a busy summer day outdoors. Our waitress was very gracious throughout the meal.
Only issue was the noise. Yes, being busy is a good thing, but it was a little bit difficult being able to hear our conversation.
Finz is our favorite restaurant in Salem. Whenever we drive to the North Shore to meet friends, we meet them at Finz. We also love to take folks there from out of town. Why? Because they have the best fish at reasonable prices that you can enjoy from their harborview deck. Finz also offers more than seafood. They also have a gluten free menu if you have a sensitivity to gluten. Their chicken ceasar salad has more chicken on it than any I have ever eaten! Their Baja fish tacos are also very yummy as is their Paella. My husband said it was the best paella he has ever eaten and he eats it wherever we go. That includes Spain... When in Salem, check out Finz. You won't be disappointed!
