Finz Salem Ratings and Reviews
Despite booking, wait time was 20 minutes. However, we did get the window table we requested and it gave us time to try the drinks at the bar. Their pickle Bloody Mary was awesome!!! Loved it! We ordered the tuna tostada and calamari for starters. Both were delicious. For main we ordered the seafood ciopinno and the sole. They were good but we were so full from starters and drinks that left most of the food on the plates. We took the chocolate strawberry creme brûlée which was ok nothing special. Not recommended.
Service was great and attentive and all together other than the wait time was a good experience. Will definitely recommend/come back.
Raw bar is reliably great at Finz. Entrees less so. They occasionally overcook fish and experiment with sides that are as likely to be a hit as a miss. Also, depending on who is in the kitchen, you can get a grossly oversalted meal. But we go back for the convenience of good local raw bar and very good service.
Over $100 for 6 Oysters, 2 entrees, and coffee. NO drinks at all. My scallops were WAY overcooked, there were only like 6 off them, some kind of deep fried vegetable strings on top were tasteless and so hard they were inedible, and the service was pretty slow. NOT a good dining experience at all.
My wife, daughter and I were in Salem for the New Year and heard about Finz watching a food review program on NECN, TV Diner. We booked our reservation on OpenTable. We can't say enough about the service and the food. It was "off the chain!" good. My 8 year old daughter enjoyed her fish and chips; my wife enjoyed her crab bisque and Alaskan King Crab Leg and I had the Cod with the parmesan mashed potatoes and spinach. Everything was nice and hot and brought to the table quickly. Our server was fantastic!
Went there on New Year's Day with my husband for lunch. Had high hopes after seeing the menu online & also the waterfront location. The restaurant is cozy - we sat at a table in the bar area next to the fireplace. Very nice views of the water. Looks like a great spot in the Summer for their outdoor seating. The food is very average at best & definitely had hopes for better given the prices. I ordered the chicken sandwhich with side salad and coleslaw. I asked for no cheese on the sandwhich & dressing in the side - my order came with cheese on the sandwhich & dressing on the salad. The plate was taken back into the kitchen to redo & returned just a few minutes later (literally) without cheese - same chicken just peeled the cheese off?? The chicken breast was thin, dry and not top quality. It was comparable to a pre-cooked frozen chicken breast you'd find in the grocery store. My husband's BLT was mainly thick bread/pita and poorly put together - basically some long thin slices of bacon & other items with a piece of pita folded over it all. The chowder is average - not great & not bad. There are better choices for this price point.
We had a 7:30 reservation, but when we got there we were told it would be about 15 min. before we could be seated. In fact we went back to inquire about our seats after waiting for 30 min. We were finally seated a few minutes later. The hostess did say"sorry" as we were being seated, but it wasn't very genuine. Our waiter was nice and efficient although several drinks that we ordered from the cocktail menu weren't available. Fortunately the food was very good. We were there for a special occasion and it did turn out to be a nice time, but it got off to a disappointing start.
This was restaurant week in Salem and the menu was great. Highly resulted the cornbread crested sole- the butter artichoke sauce was great with the crunchy exterior of the fish. The app of cranberry stuffed oysters was a true surprise and not overpowering. Overall great experience.
Made an 8:15 reservation at 8 and when we arrived at 8:20 they had not even seated the 8 PM reservations. After 35 minutes we ate a very mediocre meal at the bar. There was never any apology for the unhonored reservation or any sort of accommodation. We won't be going back.
My wife and I were looking forward to a great seafood dinner at Fins on Saturday night. We've eaten here many times and I've often brought business clients here for dinner. However, this night would have been a perfect dining experience - if, and only if, we were hearing impaired. It started off innocently enough with the reservation for 2 via Opentable. We arrived on time, but our table wasn't quite ready, so we went over to the bar area and ordered drinks. No problem. Just as the drinks came up, the waitress led us to our table - the one abutting the white post toward the back of the room. Had I known that there was about to be a decibel level contest among the surrounding larger groups, we would have hightailed it back to the bar and waited for a table in that section. There must have been a temporary lull because it wasn't too bad until after we ordered our meal. Our server was fine but, besides having to handle our nearby tables, she was also pulled in to helping serve the B'day party of 20 nearby. Another party of 8 ~20 somethings were seated to our left and a threesome of elderly ladies were to our right. Just as our meals arrived, each of these groups kept taking turns out-yelling each other just trying to hear their own conversations. I guess there was no sign or notice on the menu asking patrons to use "indoor voices only". I had ordered the cioppino and my wife ordered the halibut. The noise was so bad, that I could't finish my meal - I didn't even finish my glass of wine. We just needed to get out of room - turned loudspeaker and get back home.
Since the outdoor dining season is over, I would strongly recommend that Fins invest in some sound-absorbing ceiling and wall tiles - or passing out noise-cancelling earphones to diners. Next time, I'm holding out for a table in the bar just so that I can have a pleasant conversation and enjoy the meal.
Even on Halloween night the food and service were outstanding as usual! In all the chaos the hostess remained calm and gracious ! I was very impressed ! We always try to eat there whenever we are in the area! Please give a special thankyou to your hostess !
This was our first dining experience, and of course we dined on Halloween evening with a party of three. Myself having a gluten allergy, I was thrilled to discover that Finz has an entire gluten free menu available. Being Halloween night it was obviously very busy, however, the staff was wonderful, pleasant and efficient. Our food (gluten and non-gluten) was good quality and quite delicious. I would happily recommend Finz to a friend! We will absolutely be returning on a not-so-busy night! Thanks Finz!
We had a party of 6. We had to wait for a few minutes for our reservation due to a the party before us taking a bit longer. The wait was less than 5 minutes & as it was Halloween weekend & it is Salem. Other than the small wait the rest of our dinner & drinks were nothing less than spectacular! I had fillet Mignon with a garlic butter beyond excellent! Our waiter was witty, funny, accommodating & very efficient. I eaten at Finz a few times before and it never disappoints and this time was no different. They have a very nice menu it is geared towards seafood however, I am not a fan of sea food they do have some very good alternatives.
I hate being rushed with my plates, oysters plate was hardly finished, they were bringing the next service. They served a service without removing the previous plates.
That's rushing clients, a restaurant that claims "exquisites" shall not "process" clients as in a shop factory. It must "attend" to their service.
The bill was also rushed on the table, even before asking if we wanted a nitecap! All that time there were several empty tables, it cant be because you had too many clients.
We go to Finz every time we are in Salem. It has great food, servers and a wonderful view of the harbor from any seat in the place. After we had lunch there, we hit it for drinks at night and met some nice folks at the bar. (the bartender was a little unapproachable - it was difficult to get her attention even though the bar was pretty empty) They even have a fireplace for those cold days. Some things are not on the menu but they make it - I asked for a fried scallop plate and they made it, but it's not on the menu... and it was delicious! So ask about a classic seafood dish and they should be able to make it for you!
The swordfish stew was to spicey for your average person. I sent it back. The apple salad had so much sweet dressing you could not eat it. The children's chicken was over fried & so dry!. The citrus salad was awful.. Full of oranges only. For the price the Tuna was not a good grade of fish.. May have been old. The waitress was very nice( can't kill the messenger!). Won't go back.
My family and I enjoyed our dinner. The waterfront location is wonderful. The food was fantastic. And we had great service. Some of the other patrons were a little rowdy but it was a Saturday night. Overall we had a wonderful time. It was definitely worth the price!
