Food service was great as was the view
It was 88 outside and 86 inside 😔
We returned to Finz in their new location after having enjoyed many meals in their previous location across the street. To be honest, we were very disappointed. The food is still wonderful, but the new place is so NOISY and confusing that we practically had to yell across the table to talk. Our hostess, who was a bit surly, did not even offer us the option of sitting outside despite the fact we had reservations. The food was absolutely delicious (credit to the chefs), but because of the totally confusing and less than welcoming atmosphere, it is likely we will not return for quite a while.
Average dining experience, above average prices.
Beautiful setting overlooking the water
After 3 marginal meals this past winter we decided to try Finz again. It was OK. the food was hot and the service was very good. The food is just OK, nothing special.
We ate twice at Finz during a recent 3-day stay in Salem. The New England clam chowder was the best we've had: thick and chunky and very delicious. We ordered the OMG and Salem Maki sushi rolls twice because they were so good. The service was very prompt and friendly both times. The ambiance of the restaurant feels a bit like a sports bar, with a large-screen display of some sort of sports event (which nobody was paying attention to). Other than that, it was a very enjoyable dining experience.
I had a reservation for two, but at the last minute, my friend cancelled. The hostess was very sweet and I was seated outside immediately. My waitress came over after a few minutes to take my drink order. After ordering my food, I never saw her again. Someone else brought my food. I was never checked on, and never got a second drink. I had to flag her down eventually because I had finished my food and was waiting at least 20-25 minutes for her to bring the bill. At that point, I was very frustrated and wanted to go elsewhere for a second drink.
There was a gentleman seated two seats over from me who was also by himself. He had a different waiter and was checked on numerous times throughout his meal.
I was very disappointed because I have dined at Finz on numerous occasions and I’ve had very good service.
Food was great, they could do more with offering raw oysters in packaged deals instead of individual. Service was a little slow.
Other than being a little noisy, we had an excellent experience.
My first visit to this location. Brought some out of town friends to experience the deck, food. They were NOT disappointed!
We mentioned to the hostess & waiter that we were going to catch up on 20yrs!
Having been in the business: SMART STAFF while the table was good, it was not PRIME! Perfect for a 2 hour lunch!
The food was fresh... tuna & fried oysters cooked to perfection!
Evin, our server, was top notch giving us the "space" we needed!
My wife and I loved the food and was a great location to dine inside or outside. When in Salem check this place out!
The outside seating area was lovely, especially on a cool evening. The appetizers were really very well done, especially the Tuna Tartar. The entrees were not exceptional, but well prepared, presented & delicious. Service was exceptional. depending on your choice of appetizer & entrée, very good value for your money. I'd go back again.
Wasn’t that thrilled especially for the pricey menu. Inside was very noisy. No extras, like bread. Salads extra. Food looked pretty but not the best I’ve had.
I typically LOVE finz however this time I was disappointed with the food. I got the haddock that was COVERED in a sauce now the menu did say there was sauce but i expected to some of my fish to be uncovered and not only that i got a SMALL helping of veggies also covered in sauce and the potatoes were mediocre at best they must have been sitting under the warmer for quite sometime. The steak tips dont even taste marinated you basically grill tips and slop alot of sauce on them.
I was here for a birthday celebration and outside the bartenders good drinks and other good meals I have had in the past I would be hesitant to return.
While they did a good job renovating the old Victoria Station the place is very open and very loud
Great place, the fish and chip sandwich was amazing.
Brought a girlfriend there for a bachelorette dinner. Called a week ahead to have a bottle of champagne sent to table upon arrival. Was told to call back the day before to do so and pay over phone. Called the day before and was told they saw the note about the bottle but not necessary to pay ahead. Arrived night of, no bottle shows up. I ask waiter who said he wasn’t told but would grab it and then cane back saying there was no note in the computer....just annoying for a simple request but food was delicious and waiter was very good.
We were taken timely for our reservation. Service and food were excellent!
Looking forward to going back on warm, clear evening to enjoy view.
Great service! Extensive menu! My only complaint was the noise level. I was with friends that I hadn’t seen in a while and it was difficult to hold a conversation.
My daughter and I enjoyed visiting the NEW Finz on an extraordinary day, dining outside on a wonderful meal and watching all the Salem activity.
Food was great but service substandard. Had buffalo calamari and stuffed lobster, wife had fried zucchini and sushi platter, both supurb. Service was very unorganized, our appetizers came out about 15 minutes apart, drinks were messed up, lobster dinner was missing all sides, had to keep tracking down waiter. Place was extremely loud, not romantic at all. Had a reservation but we were still shoved in a tiny corner that partially blocked outside exit. Finz was much better when it was at old location.
Great location, ambience and service! Crab cake appetizer, beer selection and Atlantic salmon entree were outstanding. Hot lobster roll felt a little heavy with butter and homemade potato chips were delicious, but could have used some salt
Great atmosphere and service. The menu had several good seafood options. We enjoyed the shrimp corn appetizer. The blackberry haddock less so. Grilled chicken Caesar salad was very fresh and had a nice sauce. Would definitely go back!
Great view, fresh seafood and cool atmosphere. Won't disappoint. New location is fantastic.
Finz has amazing seafood and the best dessert in Salem. Their desserts are so good we had to go twice. If you are in the area, this is the place for sushi, seafood, excellent beverages, friendly staff, beautiful views and an energetic crowd.
I was sceptical about driving into Salem from the Boston Area. The Hubby got what he wanted for Father's day. It was definitely worth it , the kids are pretty picky and ate their food.Cocktail menu was also great!
Disappointed. Not the Finz it was before the move. Mostly bar area and a very limited menu.
I tried the “new” Finz twice in the past month. Both times I hoped for the best, despite the lackluster reviews and the steady decline at the old Finz, but unfortunately I was disappointed on both occasions. Really a bummer because of the beautiful location. The fried calamari was chewy and not crispy. The shrimp app was soggy. And then second time around the clam chowder came out cold- not luke warm- it was cold. The waiter promptly came back with a brand new bowl- but it was just as cold! The lobster roll had meat in the middle but barely filled the roll. Overall just very disappointing and certainly not cheap. Service was making a good effort but there’s only so much good service can do. Really hope the chef and management acknowledge these honest reviews and make some changes because people really want to love it. Give us something to love!
We were visiting Salem and were super excited to visit Finz after a recommendation from a regular at a really wonderful restaurant in Beverley the night before. Our food and cocktails were divine, truly. We sat outside on the patio and although it was windy, we loved the space so much! Sadly, we had extremely, deeply, lackluster service. We were really excited for our dinner and unfortunately we received really poor, inattentive service. We watched as other tables received prompt and thorough service and were super disappointed by being ignored and pushed on the back burner our entire experience. Working in the service industry makes me more patient and understanding than most, but I can’t justify and reason for being snubbed on the hospitality end during our visit here. :/
We hadn’t been to the new location and I must say food has remained excellent and now with beautiful ocean views and this probably is the best restaurant on the north shore by far. Congratulations to person who put it together.
Food and and service were both excellent. The price point seemed like a bargain as well. Portions were a good size. We will definitely be going back.
I am always quick to praise establishments and have had many a great experiences at Finz.
Last week wasn't one of them. I think it started with an inexperienced waiter.
And maybe not enough waitstaff for lunch. Not sure about that but he disappeared often, I think on other orders.
We assumed he was inexperienced when he poured a beer straight into the glass & it overflowed with only 3/4 of the beer poured and a huge head.
He discussed two different types of ways one diner could have their salmon. One was selected but the waiter brought both of them to the table. He left both and said his mistake enjoy both lunches. Unfortunately one diner didn't get their ordered meal at all. It took a couple of discussions and a good 20--25 minutes for her to get her meal.
Everyone else was pretty much done. We got a lot of apologies and the restaurant didn't charge for either the late meal or extra meal. It was embarrassing for us as hosts to visitors.
As mentioned we have had many very good meals and perhaps Finz location move has brought up the level of inexperience. I'm sure we will be back at some point just not for a while.
Great fresh fish in a wonderful location. We took foreign visitors, who loved it and pronounced the paella the best they'd ever had. The fisherman's stew was quite good, and the salmon and haddock dinners also got great reviews. We had requested a window seat and were given a nice one in a corner--which was good because we were less affected by the energetic noise. Good selection of beers on tap.
New location is nice. Very similar to the old setup but bigger space. Food was good as always, although a little pricey. Our dishes were about $30/ea. Our server Lauren was outstanding and the atmosphere is cozy without being too casual.
Took boyfriend for his birthday. Food was amazing!! Lobster campanella was perfect combo of creamy and savory. We had a great time. He got his perfectly tart and creamy key lime pie! Will return on a nice day to sit outside!
After a very long day of airport delays we had to move our reservation to a later time. This was done without question which helped improve the day considerably. Our server was friendly and attentive. The food was very good and reasonably priced.
First visit since Finz move to next door location. Transition has been to a noisy bar type of offering. We’ll not be going back.
I'd been to Vic's many times. I love Finz new layout and ambience. The food was excellent as were the drinks. My wife's drink did not come as ordered but she accepted it. I believe our desert was not as ordered but it was okay also.
I will be more careful next time to make sure the waitperson understands my order.
