The meals were well prepared. The seasonal specials were great. Everything was presented with care. Very attentive staff. It was on Wednesday, so dining crowd was small. The appetizer was a fusion of Asian and Cajun, and it bended well. Very satisfied with the meal.
It was ok. The place was pretty empty, however it took a long time to get our food and it was cold by the time we got it. Normally I would have said something, but we needed to eat and head somewhere else for another engagement. I doubt I will ever go back. The steak was tasty but the bearnaise sauce was more of a solid spread vs. a sauce. The lobster tail was bland and chewy. For the price, I should have went somewhere better.
I have dined here numerous time, primarily for lunch. My most recent visit was Christmas Eve dinner with the family. The food is always good and I have always experienced exceptional service. Good sushi (check availability on holidays). Make sure to get your parking stub validated before you leave the restaurant.
This review will be incomplete because I was actually unable to partake in the food offered by Finn &Porter. I chose this restaurant because they offered oysters and sushi but to my dismay restaurants of this accord do not offer these options during the Thanksgiving weekend. This review is for the amazing server we had for all of ten minutes. She was very understanding and even recommended another restaurant for sushi that turned out to be very good. I will definitely go back for steak and oysters on a later date.
Restaurant is not geared for large crowds. If there is a conference at the hotel, the restaurant may change to buffet-only for certain meals. Being forced to use the breakfast buffet, we experienced 20-minute and 25-minute waits to refresh empty fruit trays and get omelettes, respectively.
Sorry to say that the food and service was very much Not up to par. I have eaten here before many times and know what to expect in food quality and service, but this time the service was just "sort of okay", and the steak I had was not fit to serve. It was cooked properly and at the right temperature, and the seasoning was fairly well done. BUT, the steak itself -- a Ribeye, was so tough all I could do was chew the flavor out and spit the gristly meat back onto the plate. The waitress offered to not charge me for the steak which is the only saving grace for the night. I am not even sure I would try again since this was a $30 charge just for the steak. I have had many excellent steaks for that price and lower, so I know what the possibilities look like -- this just didn't measure up by any stretch of the imagination. Some of their fish dishes have been quite good over the years, so I will stick with what I know their kitchen can properly produce. If you want steak -- go somewhere else.
The place is nicely tucked into the Hilton and easy to get to. We ordered a mid range bottle of wine and it wasn't in stock, so the sommelier found a comparable bottle. I ordered a NY Strip rare and it was fairly cooked all the way through, almost completely brown, but it was juicy so I just went with it. The prices are a little high for other high end restaurants in the area, but overall, it's nice, just not great.
This was my second time at a Finn & Porter, but first at this location. The service was curteous and efficient, the food good without being outstanding. The menu was somewhat limited; perhaps this was because it was Christmas Day, but I don't recall seeing as few items on a menu in such a long time. With that said, however, each of the four in my party ordered something different and was satisfied after dining.
Dining alone, it took me nearly 2 hours for a salad and entree. I had to ask repeatedly for the glass of wine I ordered. Dessert was so slow in coming that I canceled it. The restaurant had few patrons while I was there, so that doesn't account for the problems. I'll never return.
We dined at Finn And Porters on Valentine's Day and were pleasantly surprised at the Special Menu for the evening. The service was excellent and the food was first rate. Our seating could have been better. We asked for a booth but was told they were being held for others. We dined for over an hour but the booths stayed empty. Bad planning and service on their part. Our waiter was great.
I'm not usually one to go eat at hotel restaurants, but I was pleasantly surprised. Free valet parking was nice, and everyone we came into contact with was extremely pleasant. The sushi and crab cakes were better than expected and relatively inexpensive. Try it out!
My favorite brunch spot was booked to capacity when I tried to make reservations for Mothers Day. Fortunately, OpenTable and Finn and Porter came to the rescue. While it is not the easiest place to get to (situated near the new Marks Center in Alexandria) it was well worth it. The place was beautiful and we were greeted by a lovely host. They also have complementary valet service. The food was very good and there were a good deal of choices. My daughter is still raving about the omelet she received from the omelet bar and my mother loved the seafood stuff peppers. The service was world-class; our waiter was attentive without being over bearing All in all, it was a great brunch choice for Mothers Day.
Arriving on time for our reservation, our party of 6 was directed over to the table which was a booth in the shape of a circle. We asked if we could be seated at a regular table and the hostess says "a regular table? Let me see." And never came back. A minute after that our server came and we asked her again and she said that there were no more, which later we clearly saw that was not true. She proceeded to pour our cups with water and leaves. Granted if we were really dying of thirst we could have ordered when she was right there,but we didn't expect her to NOT come back ever again. We asked several people to go and her and our section was empty! Then when she would come back, it was with an attitude. The "free" parking is another story.
This was our 22nd wedding anniversary and the service was wonderful! The staff was very attentive to our needs and extremely pleasant! Our server would always respond "my pleasure" to anything we needed. It was a beautiful experience and we'll be back.
This restaurant was in the hotel we stayed at. So we had breakfast here evey morning and dinner one time.We dined here for a late dinner. Our waitress brought us a complimentary champagne , nice touch. I ordered a salad and she asked if we were splitting it, we did and she split the salad up for us and it looked like two whole portions. My salmon dish was very good, but my husband was not happy with his steak dinner. We would try dinner again, but he would try a different dish. They have sushi there as well, that looked like a good choice. Breakfast was good as well as we purchased it in our hotel package.
