My husband and I both enjoyed our meals very much. The wait staff was friendly.
Have been to F&P a number of times. However, after this experience, would not go back. There were 5 of us celebrating my retirement. I would note:
Menu selections poor
Service was slow
Food was fair, cold for most of us
Only thing worth eating was the bread
Noisy place
Wasted $160
Not going back again after that experience!!!!
The waiter forgot salad and didn't offer any kind of dessert or dessert menu the crab cakes had crabshell pieces in them which really ruined it for me ...to bite into something sharp... we had to yell to be able to hear each other because it was so loud ...but it calmed down... the steaks were amazing and cooked perfectly lots of flavor...overall it was a really nice time and I will be back i heard they have lavender cake
Our meal was outstanding. The flavors were excellent. I only wish for the price, they would have tablecloths.
Thanksgiving dinner was delicious, our server very helpful and attentive, and the view we enjoyed as we dined made for a most memorable holiday! Fly-fishing, ducks paddling in the river, sunshine sparkling on the water...can't be beat!
We are regular diners at Finn and Porter for a reason. The food and service are excellent.
We've been going there after Griz Football games for 10 years.
The ladies serving us were very nice and professional.
yum yum yum! breakfast was fabulous :) the view was outstanding, two does and a baby deer came down to the river for a drink. they hung around for about ten minutes :)) i absolutely love the finn & porter!
well i hate to say this but todays visit wasn't good :( we enjoyed the previous visits (dinner)here so we decided to try it for lunch. the restaurant was empty at lunch time, less than 10 people. the service was slow and the food was greasy. do not go here for lunch! dinner here is alway amazing,
Ate here twice. Lunch was very good. Good variety. Dinner was over the top excellent. The best pork chop I ever had. Smoked with smoked cherries. Had a peach, burrata & arugula salad. Awesome. Also enjoyed an appetizer of beets, candied pecans, goat cheese & arugula. Can't wait to go back. Thank you. Also, the servers were super friendly & attentive.
we had such a wonderful experience yesterday we had to go again! the lavender shortcake was incredible.
beautiful river view dining! the lamb was absolutely delicious, defiantly my favorite dish. i highly recommend this place for the delicious food and beautiful view.
We had a wonderful evening and look forward to coming back soon!
Great evening. Food was spectacular awesome white chocolate mousse.
As always Finn & Porter did not disappoint. It has become a favorite go to place when we have a chance to get away for a night in Missoula. It was my granddaughters choice when I asked where she wanted dinner after our day shopping. Her pick as she loves the oysters and pizza. And we had a window table so we could watch the entertainment as she put it. Tubs and kyacks coming off the river. You won't be sorry if you give it a try.
Excellent service and meal. We had scallops and tenderloin. Both were superb. Great location overlooking the river
We had a beautiful dinner on the deck overlooking the Clark Fork River. Though it had been a hot day, the orientation of the deck and the many umbrellas made being outside comfortable. My husband had an excellent fillet cooked just right and I lived my lemon morel asparagus pasta. Deck is more casual than inside, but food was very good. Fun to watch all the rafts, paddle boards and fishermen while dining. Recommend highly for special occasions or celebrations.
Great experience, best view in Missoula. We had a graduation celebration with 10 people. Service and food was excellent. Thank you Finn and Porter!
The food was very good. The service was very good. We were greeted with a smile and seated promptly, due to our reservation. Wonderful mountain and river views. The only negative was the 5 ounce wine pour that was less than that. And served in a 12 ounce or greater wine glass. But priced at a full glass. Sent it back.
Easter dinner in a private room with a river view.
This was our first visit to Finn & Porter. We were seated next to the large view windows. Lovely view of the River and Mountains directly behind the University of Montana campus. The menu offered a nice selection of appetizers. We had the crab cakes, nice texture, good flavor and not overcooked. Both my wife an I settled on the Caesar Salad and Rib Eye Steak with Mashed Potatoes. The salad was to my looking but was too spicy for my wife's liking. Our steak was flavorful, tender and grilled nicely to medium rare. We had a side dish of asparagus...we'll pass next time. The potatoes were pretty dry, maybe too much time in the steam table. We finished with a Huckleberry Cake/Ice cream.. Tasty but really sweet. Our waitress was great, food came out quickly and we might try this place again in the future.
Excellent service and beautiful setting! We were in a rush and she was both accommodating and attentive.
Summary: Service is chaotic and indifferent, almost rude. The tenderloin was actually cooked perfectly medium rare, but was dry (never experienced that) and more importantly tasteless. The salad was not fresh and the caesar dressing was brackish. The appetizer clams on the other hand were delicious. The story: We learned they had a new chef and decided to try out what appeared to be a new menu. We had reservations but arrived 30 minutes early and found a seat at the bar while we waited. Since it was Valentines day, the service was best described as chaotic. I have eaten at some of the finest restaurants around the world that are always busy, but never chaotic and disorganized. The bar itself had a terrific menu of 'aphrodisiac' drinks for Valentines, my wife loved her drink. I have to assume that bar management is good. We were seated midway through our second drink, and were promptly served some requested 'bread' in the form of dinner rolls along with the customary water. After ordering we waited 30 minutes for the first course, the salads and the clams. A few bites of the salad were all it took, soggy and brackish - I should add I am a bit of a caesar salad snob. The 'garlic toast' with the clams was burnt, actually, blackened - I could not believe that passed through several hands being plated and served, that was tossed to the side. While we waited for our entree, we were served with a separate bar tab - really, this is 2017... the best part is they charged us for 'rocks' -- I assume that is the ice. We promptly requested that to be fixed and they agreed something was 'wrong with our system'. Then the steak, it is steak and seafood after all, couldn't believe how perfectly it was cooked. Two or three bites, thinking it might get better, it was stacked alongside the salad and burnt toast. Shockingly tasteless - tenderloins actually are, but properly prepared they can be stunningly delicious. The curious part was why it was so dry.
We were unable to get a waterfront table. Food portions were small and expensive for the amount of food. Taste was acceptable. They were an overrated average restaurant posing as a fine dining establishment.
We had an amazing Valentines meal... it's such a pretty spot on the River! We asked for a window view and had a lovely time! Started with a Cresar Salad....Yummy! Then had the Valentines Special and it was Great! Amazing service and we feel so Lucky to have such a nice place here in Missoula!
Food was average, service was great. Not too informed about gluten free options and not eager to find out. As we were in a private room, noise level was low. Fine place to seat 8 and have a converstion. Food needs to improve from average to above average for the price. Location and ambiance was fine. Would go back and maybe order different items from the choices! 😳
Service was great and so was the food.
Service was great! We really appreciated the complimentary dessert for our anniversary and the window table was a great addition. The parsnip soup was AMAZING! Our server struck a fair balance between letting us enjoy ourselves and checking in when needed. Hope to be back soon!
Thank You!
loved the view of the river. food was phenomenal! I had the steelhead and pork belly, with the antipasta platter as an appetizer. everything tasted delicious, however the service was bad. after being seated, we weren't approached for half an hour. everytime we would order a new drink or menu item it took forever to get the order. I will definitely go back, they might have been under staffed when we were there
The food was poorly prepared. I ordered ahi which should be served very rare. Half of mine was brown indicating overcooking. The side of asparagus I ordered had not been sorted or trimmed, great variations in asparagus stalks. For all the ingredients listed for the ahi sauce it was very bland. My husband's rib eye steak was ordered to be medium rare. The steak had parts that were very rare to actually medium
The marascone mashed potatoes he had were very ordinary and not well mashed. Not a dining experience we will try again nor one we will recommend to others.
They specialize in freh oven baked pizza's. The Ahi i had was wonderful. Steak is good. Breakfast was just a little better than mcdonalds.
We went for Christmas dinner - which was a buffet. The food was okay, though the dessert table was bitterly disappointing. The pies looked as though they'd come from a local grocery store bakery. The service was sl-o-o-ow! Getting our cocktails from the bar (which was not busy) took at least 15 minutes. Later a glass of wine took at least 20 minutes to find its way to us - and then it was such a meager portion it was laughable. For the price of this place, I'd say you'll pay most for the view - if you are lucky to get a table that offers it (thankfully we did). I was not impressed, and likely won't return for any special dinners in the future.
We chose finn & porter for our Christmas day dinner. The buffet was ample. Even our pickiest children found something to eat and the adults were delighted with the roast beef and chicken, the seafood dishes and even dessert. The only drawback is that the crab-legs weren't cracked, nor were any cracking implements offered so they were very difficult (and messy!) to eat. Overall, this was 5 star dining.
the food was mediocre and way overpriced. will never go to this restaurant again
We chose this location for our Christmas meal and we are so glad we did. The selection was very very nice and the service was on point. The offerings were plentiful, fresh and diverse. If we are in the area in 2017, this will definitely be a choice for delicious buffet style eating at a very reasonable price for the selections offered. The bread pudding was definitely a home run, not overly sweet. Yummy...
It's been awhile since we've been to Finn and Porter. The menu used to be quite extensive, but now is very limited. We had the antipasti (1/2) as an appetizer and it was very good. I had the filet (salad is extra as it's an ala carte menu) and my wife had crab cakes and the beet salad off the small plates menu. Overall food was excellent but with only a handful of entree choices and priced on the higher end of the scale it will probably be a long time before we return. Service was acceptable but nothing exceptional. Took the server quite a while after we were first seated and the timing on courses and cocktails seemed a bit disjointed. Server was pleasant enough it just didn't feel like the experience you should receive for the price.
Limited menu, but flavorful. Seating with a riverside view is a bonus!
The dinners were not as described on the menu with the exception of the ribeye. The lamb chops were plain chops with mashed potatoes. The halibut was good but not what the menu suggested. There was no wow factor for the money.
I stay at the hotel regularly and therefore eat at the Finn and Porter regularly. Staff are brilliant, views from restaurant outstanding and food good. Great hotel restaurant.
Mom'sbday, staff was amazing. Food was very good.
