FIN - Asian Tapas Bar Ratings and Reviews
The food was excellent, but the service was extremely poor. I had to ask for my drink 3 times before it finally arrived and it took forever for each dish to come out, then finally 3 dishes came out at the same time because they were close to closing. We were there for over two hours because our food was so slow to come out. I also informed our server that my wife had an avocado allergy but everything still came with avocado.
My guest and I were warmly greeted and immediately seated upon arriving to our reservation. We ended up ordering the DineLA three course dinner that offered dishes such as tiger prawn tacos, gyoza, and spicy tuna crispy rice (fantastic). The waitress was extremely friendly and patient while we looked over the menus. The drinks arrived fast and clean. The music softly played a nostalgic mix of late 90s and early ‘00 hits. It was the perfect setting for a modern, low key but exciting first date!
Came here for DineLA which was a great deal. The server and hostess were polite and not overly pushy/attentive. I also ordered a cocktail which was a lovely addition to the meal. My entree looked and smelled amazing, but I liked the sides more than the main dish. A meal can be made of appetizers alone. Would go back with friends or a date.
The chef seems to have a sweet tooth as many of the savory dishes are quite sweet. I found it overpowering and a bit monotonous. Nevertheless, the food is good.
My salmon was rather well done and the server took it back to be redone without a fuss. Water glasses were kept filled, though empty glasses and plates sometimes sat on the table.
DineLA Winter 2018
This place is good if you want a loud and energetic scene with people watching (standing room only). As far as business dinners go, it was too noisy (surprising for a Monday evening). However, for the DineLA selection. I chose their version of spicy tuna over crispy rice with a jalapeño on top (taste was good/fair), 2nd appetizer option was essentially a california roll (with real crab, allegedly). The last option I chose was a skirt steak (done rare)with mashed potatoes. I was pleasantly surprised that my steak came out as well as it did for a non-steakhouse. Best to come here with a group or happy hour. Food is decent to good.
Service: Mondo was super attentive without being annoying and built rapport to be able to personalize his recommendations to us, including the sake choice. Lastly, he invited us over to check out the alley lounge behind the restaurant. Loved him!!
- Tuna Jalapeño Crispy Rice - yum!! One of my favorite items and this one was on point.
- Tiger Prawn Tacos - the meat filling was great but lacked the balance of a taco without anything fresh or sauce.
- Grilled avocado - curiosity led us to try this and it was just ok.. like the prawn tacos - wish it had something citrusy or fresh to add layers to the grilled avocado flavor.
- Rock Shrimp tempura - perfectly crunchy and balanced with creamy & spicy - nothing special though.
- Salmon - perfectly portioned, cooked, and the sauce was the best. I munched on this until the end.
- Lamb chops - the meat was seasoned with rosemary & cooked perfectly to have the sweetness from the sauce and herb from rosemary dancing in your mouth. Masked potatoes were yummy as well .. though too much for my taste, would’ve liked some seasonal veggies to go with it.
Overall: would go back for the entrees and service for sure!!
My second time there. First was wonderful. This was a complete mess. A lot of blame being explained about Food LA menu and delays and generally just not good at all. I’m very easy, and I don’t ever write reviews, but I felt that strongly about this meal. I hope you all get it together as the first time was great.
I came for my best friends birthday celebration (and it perfectly worked out it was during Dine LA week) and everyone was so happy with the experience. Food was amazing - the ceviche was amazing and the salmon practically melted in my mouth. Drinks were creative and strong but also very tasty. They were so accommodating and friendly.
We were introduced to FIN by friends and we try to get back here whenever possible! The food is delicious and beautifully presented and the staff are all very friendly and attentive. The tuna on crispy rice is one of my favorite!!! Also, the beef gyoza and green beans are absolutely delicious! They have some great food/drink deals during happy hour, too, so you don't need to break the bank to have an incredible meal. We're so glad we discovered this little neighborhood gem!
This was my second visit, and I was not disappointed, and only look forward to returning. Food is offered with a unique twist (where you can find beef pot stickers with a lobster sauce), and one of the highlights are the jicima fish tacos. The shisito peppers are among the best I've had, and every dish was a delight.
It has been awhile since I have visited Fin. My first time visiting a few years back the food was excellent, but service was almost nonexistent. This tortured me because I loved the food, but the service needed work. Fast forward a few years later, my wife and I took a friend here for a birthday dinner. Jesse, our waiter, was more than helpful with the menu, and had great recommendations. Give the man a raise! He represented Fin flawlessly. We will officially add Fin to our must visit list when eating out. Great job Fin.
Delicious food and good service although the noise level was up a bit from what I recall in the past. We had four items all of them excellent: Garlic Shrimp Gyoza, Yuzu Yellow Tail, Kiwi Scallops, and the Filet Mignon Truffle Mash. We've had them all before with the exception of the Gyoza which was the best gyoza we ever had. The wine list is a bit expensive for what you get although our Layer Cake Cab was certainly serviceable. On the other side of the coin the cocktails were very good - The Washington Boulevard is a great take on a Manhattan.
First time at FIN and will definitely be going back. The food was incredible and served tapas style, so you're able to try a lot of different things on the menu. The filet with truffle mashed potatoes was great, and just as tasty is the miso cod. The service was also top notch, the only complaint I have is it's a bit loud when the place is full, but once the crowd died down, so did the volume. Will absolutely recommend FIN to friends.
I love Fin and the food, and I had always good experience there, I don't know why not last Saturday :(
We had a reservation for 8:30pm I was with my husband 15 (8:15pm) minutes earlier there, because we thought we could have a drink at the bar before our friend arrived. But we were only told that our tank would be ready in 15 minutes and than nothing:( we found than after standing around a free and we where trying to order a dring , but at the bar they told us that they will send a waitress. After more than ten minutes, someone came to ask us if we would like to order something. Than our friends came and we had the same think again. At 8:55pm we got than our table and the service at the table was good. I'm not sure what happened at this Saturday, but I would still always recommend Fin to friends, because the food is amazing and the service usually great!
Made online reservation and upon arrival was told kitchen was closed . Confirmed reservation was accepted by restaurant. Took UBER after long flight and making reservation only to be told kitchen closed. The structure looked seedy. Solid metal unpainted front door is unattractive. Manager offered a round of drinks. Cannot agree with 4.7 rating. From the physical plant appearance could not give more than a 1.5.
