Filomena Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
The food was excellent. Our waiter was horrible. The Waiter was standing in the back talking with the other staff most of our time there. He was short when ordering our meals, did not bring the bread out(came with the meal), after our Togo bags were sitting at the table for 10 min we had to find him to get the check. This is our first bad experience here. Will make it tuff to go back anytime soon.
This is the second time we have been to Filomena. The first time was on a New Years Eve and we expected it to be all decorated up for the occasion and it was. This time it was no particular occasion, just a nice dinner after seeing the Vermeer exhibit at the National Gallery. Well it was still all decorated but not for New Years. What is so impressive about this place is that it is not just beautiful but also has the best Italian cuisine, even better than Italy.
Great Food. Waiter was very attentive at the beginning then we needed to catch up. We ordered the sauted calamari which was tender and delicious. The bread basket was amazing. Then since we were still talking and hadn't placed our order the waiter disappeared for 20 minutes at a time. Typically they fill your water glass after a mouthful but we went empty. Thank gosh we ordered a nice bottle of wine.
Maybe the waiter was trying to turn the table over fast but to have someone disappear for so long was disappointing.
This is my bf account and he wanted me to share my experience. This was my first time at Filomena Ristorante. My boyfriend rave how great the food was and I was very excited to try it with him. We arrived at 10pm and were seated next to the entrance which unfortunately was very, very cold and and even when I put my coat on, I still was freezing. By the time my meal arrived it also became too cold to enjoy. I had the President Clinton special dish. Very tasty but turned cold within minutes so I asked for it to be wrapped to take home. We also got desserts to go ( Tira Mi Su and Cannoli). I think my bf felt bad about the temperature conditions, he offered his coat to me several times. (such a sweetheart.) I played it off as best as I could so I would focus on the celebration of my birthday and not the condition around us. May I suggest to the restaurant to add some heater alternatives near the entrance seating area. The group of ladies sitting along side of us were also wearing their coats so clearly additional heat is needed. The restaurant is also located in the lower level (basement) of the building which is another factor that contributes to the cold. I may try them again but most likely it would be in the day time.
Truly an incredible experience. Bring someone you love and watch as you struggle to choose which items to order because everything looks so good! But don’t be worried because you can’t make a wrong choice here; the food is DELICIOUS. Rich and decadent or fresh and scrumptious; make your choice. To truly put the icing on the cake, we had impeccable service. I’ve been to some of the best restaurants in the world, and the team at Filomena ranks with the best of them. We had Ramiro as our main server and he has been my favorite server I’ve had in a long time. Thanks, Filomena! We’ll be back soon!
Nice. Authentic. Good food. Even good-er desserts! I took home three, as I could not make up my mind. :) I had a moscato that was divine! Very sweet like I like them. A quaint and cozy feel. I felt a bit like I was in Italy again. A nice choice, and a staple of the Georgetown community, I'm sure, as they've been in existence now for 35 years! Our waiter (sorry, can't remember his name) was very gracious and accommodating.
I travel the world in the course of my business and I eat in many different establishments. Filomena's is by far my favorite. The food is fantastic, the portions are over the top and the atmosphere is family-comfortable. BTW I love the Christmas decorations. Well done, JR
We walked in and the staff was very friendly and greeted us immediately. We were sat within minutes of arrival. The server went well beyond to recommend and to even select the best dishes for our table. I have recommended this restaurant to several colleges who will be traveling in the area in the next couple of months. I will definitely be back!
Arrived 15 minutes late and they cancelled our reservation and then said they'd accomodate us but then made us wait 1.5 hours later standing in the reception area. Then after describing what we were looking for in a bottle of wine, we took the waiter's recommendation and it was one of the worst tasting wines we'd ever had and when we sent it back, the waiter had an attitude with us and said he would not give another recommendation again because we would not be allowed to return it if we didn't like it. We chose another bottle and again it was horrible but we didn't send it back. It just sat there. So we did not have a good experience at Filomena. The atmosphere is great but to be honest, the food is heavy and don't get me started on the ravioli... Pasta isn't supposed to be like a cracker. I'm not sure what happened with that but just don't order the ravioli appetizer if you're expecting pasta...
The wine was very good, especially for a house wine at $45 a bottle. We had the Oysters for app. and it was outstanding. I had seafood, shrimp, lobster, etc in their Sunday red sauce - to die for. My wife had the same Sunday sauce but with meat. Waiter was outstanding very attentive but not over bearing.
Amazing!!! From the host check in to bartenders to wait staff everyone was friendly professional and prompt. Never felt rushed and the whole dining experience was worth the trip. The food portions were very large and it was honestly the best food quality ever! Come hungry and enjoy your evening, it’s a MUST do place in DC!
The sides of the plates are huge, enormous, but they did not tell us from the beginning so we where trying to eat all, it was to much. The decoration is scary, seems like the Hobbit movie. The food is good but not outstanding.
We have been to Filomena on many occasions and have always enjoyed their food and great service. This time was not that great. They are celebrating the holidays and wedged a huge christmas tree in the middle of their dining room. That is fine, but it felt like they didn't remove any seating, they just squished all the tables closer together. It was very uncomfortable sitting and listening to so many conversations around me.
Also, the service seems to be slipping quite a bit. When our server brought the sambuca and amareto to the table at the end of the meal, he reminded us THREE times that we were on the honor system and we were only allowed one glass full. Maybe they have had bad experiences of system abuse, his remarks came across a bit harsh and accusatory.
Not sure if we're coming back.
