Filomena is perfect for the business luncheon or the elegant candle light dinner.
Fun special occasion restaurant.
The food on the buffet was was between good and ok. The service was a little slow considering that they weren't all that busy.
I went here for dinner on a Saturday evening. The first thing I noticed was that the place was really loud. My friends and I had to scream in order to hear each other. The place was really interesting. It was filled with... unique decorations. Quite frankly that doesn't matter to me as much because when I go to a restaurant, I'm more concerned about the food and service, rather than the paintings on the wall.
Our server was rarely there. He took quite a while to bring us the menu and take our orders. I could understand that though, it was a Saturday evening and the place was PACKED. It was ridiculous. The food was great. There were so many selections too! My friends and I tried various dishes and they were all very tasty.
It was a fun, Washington landmark to visit. It was drenched in Easter paraphernalia. The food was served in huge portions and was very good, except for the dishes my husband and I happened to order were a little too rich. And the restaurant is very, very, very loud. I knew that going in so I was prepared. It's definitely somewhere to visit at least once.
Delicious food. Everything is so fresh and tasty. The staff make you feel welcomed as part of their big Italian family. They ask your name and address you by your name and shake your hand as a welcome. The maitre d' also thanked us for visiting and wished that we would come back. It was just a very fun atmosphere and nicely decorated for Easter. It was nice to see so many large groups celebrating birthdays. The ending to the meal with the amaretto and sambuca caraffes was extremely generous and such a nice touch. The portions and the service and the family feel made this restaurant's prices very reasonable.
My time at Filomena's was very nice. The food was great and authentic. The restaurant was vibrant and very active. The space was a little tight and the noise increased; however, the taste of the food made up for all of the distractions. Will definitely re-visit
Words could not possibly convey how great a restaurant this is! Both Matre' D's (Dino and Mac) are outstanding professionals!!! The food and service are outstanding!!!
This is by far the best Italian Restaurant in DC!
This place is absolutely amazing! Fresh foods, great selections, and BIG portions! A little pricey but definitely worth it!
this restaurant, used to be great, now is dated, stayed in time, bunnies everywhere,
too crowed. over priced for it.
Noisy, crowded, food so so, very expensive
Desert selection good
Wonderful meal with attentive service. Shared a salad with my husband (INSALTA DI CORNUCOPIA). I loved the ShrimpGAMBERI DI PAPA ANTIMO and it is no exaggeration to say 100% crabmeat.
Portions were considerable. Waitstaff is outstanding. The best dessert I've ever had in a restaurant. Very loud but not annoying.
My husband and I had dinner reservations for 5:30 as we had tickets to the opera at The Kennedy Center at 7:30. Let's just say our dining experience was so wonderful we stayed past 7:00 and skipped the opera :-) All of our food and drinks (appetizer, shared salad, entrees, bottle of wine, desserts, and coffee), ambiance, and service were excellent. And our server, Sergio, was friendly, knowledgeable, and very attentive. We had a lovely time with no complaints and can't wait to return!
Make your reservations early as this is a popular spot.Superb food--best Italian I have ever eaten. Three days later, I can still taste the outstanding flavors of my entree which was Tortelloni Di Michele. We began wiht Arancini for an appetizer, which was outstanding with a flavorful sauce. They are three very large balls and quite filling.I cannot begin to describe the flavors of the Tortelloni Di Michele. The beef is so tender and flavorful, it melts in your mouth. The sauce is divine--not too heavy and spiced perfectly. My only disappointment was that I could only eat about three of the huge homemade raviolis stuffed with meat as they are so filling. I would strongly suggest two people share one entree. Cannot wait to return
Fantastic food and service. Great experience
Service was terrible, our server was not attentive at all and acted as if we were a pain when we asked for recommendations. Our waters were empty for a minimum of 20 minutes. When my date ordered a second glass of wine our server acted as if it was a hassle. When I asked for a scotch listing I was informed they do not offer a scotch list and was given no offerings, simply and rudely asked what kind of scotch I wanted. We also waited 15 minutes to be greeted and when I went to batthroom an employee and I crossed paths, rather than step back or to the side to allow me to pass they rudely motioned for me to move out of their way..I work at a different fine dining establishment and would have gladly spent far more if service was even decent.
Great food, but extremely crowded tables. And, even with a reservation, expect a very long wait.
Terrible service!!!! The waiter was inattentive and distracted! He rushed us through the entire meal. He did NOT even offer us dessert and coffee after the meal! Terrible disappointment due to the fact that we are only in the area once a year and usually look forward to dining at Filomena's.
Unique atmosphere, delicious homemade pasta, very generous portions, fabulous desserts!!
The grandma in the window making gnocchi grabbed our attention. So we went inside, down the stairs and found a lovely surprise of a restaurant. You're not only greeted by the mâitre d' but a window display of various desserts! From Tiramisu to cannolis! We were seated promptly (a party of 4). Every dish we ordered was amazing. We started off with a arancini (rice balls). My husband had the La Familia and I had the spaghetti and meatballs. All were sizable and delicious. No wonder this is a popular place. Even service was out of this world. We will return but this time with a larger army!
The food is absolutely superb! Go with the specials.
This pre- and after service care given by "Open Table"structure is certain to remain of benefit for the three parties:
2) the concerned restaurant
3) the subsequent new and recurring clients.
The purpose being satisfaction to all.
Always a great meal at Filomena. I have never been disappointed.
The food and service was outstanding. We had a noisy table by the waiting area, so other guests were on top of us the entire time. the pasta was by far the best i've ever eaten anywhere.
Outstanding, authentic, made from scratch food! Great service as well. When you are tiered of the same boring chain restaurants, go to Filomena!
The exterior appearance is a bit misleading with mama in the window making gnocchi and other homemade pastas. The experience was a bit like the Spaghetti Warehouse and Olive Garden collided. The portions were ridiculously oversized and there wasn't anything subtle about the meal. The pasta was swimming to way too much sauce and the risotto was more cheese than flavor.
In fairness to Filomena I spent several years living in Italy and grew to appreciate the simplicity of Italian food with the focus on flavors rather than quantity.
always consistent. Never had anything less than excellent.
Wonderful food! Try the home-made pasta and tomato sauce...yum! Service great. A bit too noisy and close tables for romance or conversation but very festive and fun.
I love filomena. The food is delicious- tastes both homemade and gourmet. Great local place. Famous people dine here. I would highly recommend. Penne con salsicce and gnocci are out of this world!
Lunch buffet we good but not outstanding like evening dinner from the menu. Deserts were very good.
Some of the best Italian we have had. Will come back when we're in DC.
This restaurant was too hot, too dark and too noisy and what I chose was so rich I could barely eat it. The portion was enormous. This is an Italian restaurant that never heard of the Mediterranean diet.
The appetizer (that someone else ordered but I got a taste) of baked ravioli with tomato sauce was excellent though. My salad was overdressed.
My guess is if you stick to a homemade pasta and stay away from anything with cream sauce you may have a good meal.
I had a party of 8 and we were treated exceptionally well and the food choices were all outstanding.
This was my third or fourth time to Filomena's and I would go back again.
I have recommended it to many people and no one has ever been disappointed.
Three of us were celebrating the end to a very long day.
I'll be back for sure.
Awesome food. Awesome service. By far my favorite DC restaurant!!! Our waiter was Soprano. He was EXCELLENT!!!!
Nikki Haley, Governor of South Carolina, was dining there at the same time as us - I am a huge fan!
I can't wait to go back!!!!
What a gem! The food is beyond delicious. We look forward to coming here for any special occasion. Love the liquors at the end of the meal. Can't wait until our next visit.
Sergio was a GREAT waiter and was extremely attentive. He gave us great suggestions for what to try and I couldn't have been happier with my first experience at Filomena!
I wanted to take my wife somewhere we've never been before for our six year anniversary. After looking around at all my options Fillomena kept popping out in my mind. I made the reservations at we were set. From the moment we walked in the staff was warm and courteous. We felt right at home. The food and wine was delicious. This will now be our go to restaurant for special occasions. You absolutely must make reservations though, or expect a wait to be seated without them.
Have to come here at least once whenever in DC
