Filomena Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
No trip to DC is complete without a visit to our favorite restaurant, Filomena Ristorante. The food is outstanding. The staff is friendly and professional. The portions are huge. My favorite is the La Familia. Save room for dessert - chocolate truffle cake is the best!
Had a fabulous time with my son. We are very Italian and the food was very authentic. I finally broke away from the osso bocco which is one of my all time favorites. I got the 20oz veal chop which was excellent. My son got the homemade ravs which are a must for first timers. The fried calamari is outstanding and the sauce is like home. The service was impeccable.
My date and I had 5:30 reservations on a Wednesday before seeing The Book of Mormon at the Kennedy Center. At 5:15, the restaurant was nearly empty, but by the time we finished eating at 6:30, it was packed. It took a solid five minutes for a host to appear and seat us, but after that the service was terrific. Our waiter was extremely friendly, and the food came out incredibly fast. And the food.... WOW. I got the linguini cardinale from the Hall of Fame menu and it's one of the only meals I've ever had where the first bite caused me to audibly exhale with a "wow!" My date got a special, some sort of smoked chicken ravioli, that was also extremely flavorful. We finished the meal with the tiramisu. Of note, the portions are huge, so while this restaurant is really expensive, you do get a lot for your money, unlike at newer places where you pay for the presentation of small samples. I'd highly recommend Filomena and I can't wait to return!
Filomena's is not wheelchair accessible, but makes no effort to communicate that at any point or place. I directly requested a wheelchair accessible table for my companion in my online reservation -- no attempt to call or email me was made to indicate they had no wheelchair access. A flight of stairs is only access into restaurant. There is no statement on their website that they do not have wheelchair access.
The food is excellent, but not worth the massive fail and lack of respect toward anyone in a wheelchair manifested by their total neglect in communications on their website and reservation non-response.
Had the absolute best birthday dinner for my dad with my parents visiting! They were very accommodating to my gluten intolerance, our waiter checked on multiple menu items for me and knew all of the gluten free desserts (I ended up with the gluten free penne with vodka sauce and chicken, and we all split the triple chocolate mouse pie!). Overall a fantastic meal and evening.
Note that the restaurant is not ADA accessible, I have a broken foot and had to hop up and down the stairs. Everyone however was so helpful and accommodating!
Filomena won’t disappoint! Superior Service and amazing, delicious, homemade, authentic Italian food in DCs Georgetown neighborhood. You cannot go wrong here. The only negative feedback I have is for the overly dim lighting. No normal person (without super hero X-ray vision) can read the menu without a flashlight. We noticed everyone around us was using their smart phone lights like we did.
We had a reservation for 7pm. I called at 6:45 to let them know we would be late, about 7:15. We did not arrive until 7:30 and they seated us right then. There was a huge wait. It was a party of 2 so easier to seat but I was impressed they did not give us a hard time. Come hungry!
Service was a bit off this evening. I have been here many times, and been treated a little bit better than this current visit. Pacing was a bit off with appetizers coming quickly, main course following rapidly after that, and then a long wait for the complementary amaretto and Sambucca. Desserts took even longer than that. Overall, good food, big portions, but not the usual stellar service I have come to expect from this restaurant. I’ll chalk it up to an off night by the waiter. Regardless, still one of the favorites on my list.
Service was superb. Extremely busy restaurant, to the point that we had to wait a few minutes for our table despite having a reservation. But it was honestly the best Italian food I’ve had in DC. Every single aspect of the meal was enjoyable. Would recommend for anyone looking for a lively, cozy restaurant with great food and great service.
