Filomena Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
Very fun setting and ambiance! Festive holiday decorations! Food is good, large portions so be prepared to take food home! Noisy but we could still hear each other at a large table. We really enjoyed our meal.
Had a few issues with allergies that had been clearly communicated but they were all quickly resolved.
Over rated tourist trap. Should have read more of the reviews because I can’t remember the last time I had such an unpleasant dining experience. They are more concerned with turning the tables than ensuring a positive guest experience. My manicotti was inedible. They have a woman in the window making pasta but she must be taking it home with her because the manicotti was definitely not fresh pasta. I only took 2 bites and no one inquired how it was or why I didn’t eat it. Waiter couldn’t tell me the brands of their wines by the glass. I ordered the Chardonnay but a Pinot Grigio was on the bill. Avoid this place at all costs,
Made reservations, still had about a thirty minute wait. Food was excellent and had leftovers to take home with me. I ordered the linguine with lobster sauce which was delicious. I also highly recommend the meatballs and the cookies and creme cake. In addition, the waiter was super nice and personable.
It was a disappointment. Though I'd reserved two days earlier and arrived 15 minutes ahead, the restaurant either overbooked or was short staffed and kept me waiting for 35 minutes. There were at least 20 others packed in the tiny foyer also waiting for a table. After two protests, my guest and I were finally seated. There was no apology for the delay. Service was slow and not attentive. The tables are small and close to each other, but it's possible to have a conversation. The cooking is heavy. My guest and I decided to split the bill with two credit cards, and here again, the wait staff couldn't manage to deliver all the receipts. On the way out, there was no thank you and come again greeting. I wouldn't return. The restaurant management should get its act together.
Service was outstanding and friendly. Wine list has an excellent selection of Italian wines, making our evening that much more entertaining. Food was absolutely wonderful, followed by the complimentary sambuca and ameretto with desert. Don’t skimp on the house-made pasta and gnocchi!
We love everything about Filamena especially for the holidays. However, the hostess wouldn’t allow our friend to enter the dining room to come join us for dessert so she left the restaurant. We had a friend leave before dessert and her seat would be taken by our late arrival friend. We shared this with the service staff but our friend was denied entrance.
This was my second time eating at the restaurant while visiting DC. I love all the Christmas decorations. It’s a nice cozy place. It’s definietly busy so make a reservation. I had the shrimp risotto with lobster sauce. The first I had the gnocchi. Both dishes were great.
Filomena’s, I’m sorry to say, was a big disappointment. The food was over-sauced, lacking in flavor, & generally unremarkable - definitely not worth the cost. Atmosphere was noisy & tired, and interrupted intermittently by workmen carrying large boxes through the restaurant (they don’t have a side door?). My waiter repeatedly placed food and drink down, not in front of me, but on the other side of the table, so I had to reach over to get it. There’s more, but suffice it to say that I’m sorry I used my limited time in DC to return here for dinner after many years away from the city - should have just kept my memories and gone elsewhere!
We arrived and were told there were no tables until 10 PM. I then went online and was able to book a table for an hour later at 8 PM. The hostess was very rude. When we came back, we had to wait 30 minutes past our reservation time. Our waiter was nice, but the whole process was just over-complicated and not worth it.
Every time I visit DC, I make it a point to dine at Filomena's. I have been to Italy several times and can say that the food at this restaurant is the best Italian food you can find outside of Italy itself - astonishingly authentic. Filomena's also has an incredibly hospitable, friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable staff that will add to the fantastic atmosphere. Simply put - it's a meal you cannot miss out on.
Here's my thing. I will never understand why most DC restaurants are so loud and seemingly stuffy, you might notice this here. However, do not let that deter you. Filomena has a fairly good ambiance overall. The food was out of this world, and the service was excellent! I've dined at many Italian restaurants in and around the DMV but this will remain my favorite. Your taste buds will be rocked and you will leave very satisfied.
We love coming to Filomena. I think the only negative for the restaurant is how crowded it gets, but of course that's good for business!!! This is truly one of the only Italian restaurants worth going out to. So many places are underwhelming; I feel like I could make all the food on the menu myself. Not here. Their specials are well thought out, their staples are delicious. It's sometimes hard to get a new item off the menu, the things we've had in the past are so good, but I was glad I did it this time. I got one of the featured items, a chicken breast stuffed with spinach, artichokes, mushrooms and cheese. It was HUGE and delicious. Price wise, it was two full meals for me (wonderful warmed up the next day), so in the grand scheme of things, it was very economical. The staff are always welcoming and right on top of things at each table. Recommended for anyone who goes to Georgetown and will be a favorite for special occasions for as long as we live in the DC Area.
Delicious and wonderful!! Wonderful momma Mia shrimp with delicious fresh salad and main entre linguini cardinale was so good we came back and ordered exact same dish as last time!! My favorite Italian restaurant anywhere...cant wait to come back!!! Waiters are very attentive kept glasses full and our food came out promptly...love the over-the-top decorations kinda tacky but very festive....just love this place!!!
What a wonderful piece of Italian in Georgetown. The food was delicious, portions are huge, prices are good considering the amount of food you get, and the staff was all very nice. The only thing I could say is the lighting is very dark, but that only sets the ambience to be romantic. Will definitely recommend for friends and will visit again on my next trip to Washington D.C.
