Let’s start from the beginning of this 5-star experience.
We arrived a few minutes after it reservation, but were still seated very quickly, even with the restaurant being full. The only hiccup here was that the hostess seemed flustered, uncomfortable and slightly overwhelmed (while this really didn’t negatively affect our experience this visit, I felt that it should be mentioned, and it is entirely possible that the construction on the property is causing this.)
After we were seated, and waters poured, we were left to our own devices to go over the menu. Our server, Burton, stopped by to get a drink order started, and to let us know that he’d be back shortly to take our order, and even remembered we were here about 6 months ago. The attention to detail here is outstanding.
After ordering, our food appeared very fast, and was delicious. Both my boyfriend and I ordered the Ribeye, he had the garlic potatoes and Brussels sprouts, I got the gingered vegetables and garlic potatoes as well. The steaks were cooked perfectly, potatoes seasoned beautifully and the vegetables were bright and flavourful. All together, each dish created a balanced flavour profile across the board. And their signature chocolate cake... to die for.
It wasn’t nearly as loud as we thought it was going to be, as the dining room was full, the only change I would have made was raising the music volume just a hair, so that diners conversations could be obscured slightly from other tables nearby, but that’s really just nit picking on my part.
Once again, our expectations were met and exceeded by the staff here at Rodney’s, especially by our server Burton. We can’t wait to come back and dine with you again!
It was lovely.
My rack of lamb was done perfectly. The polenta and Brussels sprouts were barely warm. The chef sent hot replacements. Salad was delicious.
Food- steak & halibut very under cooked. Halibut unedible except edges. Very pricey food not with it
They are going to renovate the restaurant and resort and it needs it desperately. It is also very difficult to find the restaurant in the large and spacious building.
The restaurant isn't very big and was not very busy on a Friday night.
The server was friendly and helpful but seemed inexperienced. For example, she didn't put our bottle of white wine on ice. She just left it half full on the table. They also were out of 2 wines specifically mentioned on the menu.
The best part of the meal was the food which is certainly a good thing. My filet was great. Cooked perfectly, medium rare and a fine cut of meat. The other people had the halibut which was good but not great. Same with the salmon. The seafood bisque was very good.
The sunset dinner special is a very good bargain, especially in Santa Barbara at $40.
Arrived at our reservation time of 5:00. Door was open but no one was present. Waited until 5:10 then left. Felt dated and uncared for environment.
It was not a good experience. They were understaffed and overbooked. We waited at least 10 minutes at the table before anyone even appeared. We were waited on by a busboy then the hostess then a wAiter who unnounced how many things The didn't have on the menu after ordering w the hostess.
The place was pretty empty for a Friday night. That said the service and food was excellent. Had the onion soup and a filet. Both were typical steakhouse quality, comparable to a Ruth's Chris or Mortons. Great service by the staff!
Nice option, if staying at Fess Parker's or any of the hotels along Cabrillo. Great to just walk for a good quality, casual dinner.
Service was great, never seen this restaurant to busy. Food is presented well, great plating, cooked spot on and had great flavors. This is a bit of a speedy place for what you get, but it is inside the Fess Parker, not a Holiday Inn priced place. Similar feel to a Ruth Chris or Flemmings, they utilize the 1600 degree ovens for your steaks and they nail it pretty spot on!
From the wedge salad to the filet, everything was perfect! The service was top-notch and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back.
Food was very tasty but portions small and menu interesting but limited.
Great Farm to Table dining. Great service. I had the Salmon, a caprese salad and the artichoke. The ingredients were fresh and plated very well. The amount of food served was perfect.

Average Steakhouse, had a famous LY dinner for eight adults st Rodney's. Service was very attentive, although the restaurant was almost empty, save our group. Food choices were ok, although the petite filet was truly minuscule, although flavorful. Sides were average, although the roasted potatoes in bacon fat were daily tasteless. Much better choices in Sata Barbara
The service was friendly and timely, the ambiance was great, and the food was delicious! The bread pudding dessert was amazing. My wife and I dined at Rodney's for Valentines and it was a great experience. The hostess and our server were very friendly not just to us but to everyone, which I enjoyed watching.
We usually go to Rodney's once a year and haven't been disappointed. This time around the menu has changed. Loved the wedge salad, the crab cakes, and the crème brûlée. Sadly, none of those items are now available. We ordered oysters to find that they were out of them at 6:30 on a Saturday night. The filet mignon was excellent as always, the lobster was cooked perfectly, and the kale and wild mushroom sides were very tasty. The big surprise was the bacon fat basted potatoes, these were amazing! The reverse root beer float was nice, but not as nice as the crème brûlée would have been. Service was ok. Servers were friendly, but seemed inexperienced. It was not very busy, but staff seemed very distracted. Overall a nice experience though.
I think the decor could be updated to match the sophisticated and tasty food that they serve.
Our drinks took forever... the server had to auction them off?!?!?! Handed me the wrong drink :( food wasn't hot the server didn't preset so we sat for a few waiting for knives to cut our cold food .. and when she did bring things she reached in front of us without so much as an excuse me?!?! Also auctioned off the food?! So unprofessional !! Never checked back with us, and there were 6 of us, and she brought 1 side of pots for 6 people?!?! It was 100% disappointing

Filet mignon WA excellent as was grilled cauliflower. Way to many kids making way to much noise without any words from their parents or from the staff. Not cool.
We loved our experience at Rodney's was lovely! The room is beautiful and we loved our table. We ordered the Burata chese and tomatoes and it was fabulous! I ordered the Squash soup and it was ok, not great, but good. My husband ordered the filet minion and potatoes and he enjoyed it greatly! The service was excellant. However, I ordered chocolate ice cream and it was full of freezer burn and was awful....Our server, of course, took it off of the bill, but really didn't give the the option of ordering anything else. My husband had the reverse root beer float and I would have love to have a scoop of the root beer ice cream.
We look forward to coming back next year perhaps.
The food was excellent, and the steaks were prepared exactly as ordered. Our waiter was quite attentive to our needs. We would definite return to Rodney's again.
The steak tasted great and the service was excellent. The only down side was the lighting above us was too bright.
We were in Santa Barbara to celebrate our anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance and food at Rodney's.
The place is upscale with nice atmosphere and great service. However, we were surprised to find out that the menu was completely different from What is posted on Open Table. It took away from what was expected to be a nice evening.
If the food had not been overwhelmed by salt, it was a gorgeous combination of flavors & variety - fresh vegetables & fish artfully prepared. The oysters & Caesar salad were fabulous. The service was attentive & friendly. Just market your restaurant & go way easier on salt!
My husband and I came to celebrate our 20th annv. Even made a special comment on Open Table rsvp. Rodneys did not acknowledge. No bsr tender, server did double duty, very slow and weren't that busy. Coupled with hotel sales entertaining prospects, our server spent more time catering them. Hotel staff didn't even notice we weren't being taken care of. Rodney's is not inexpensive, for the prices they charge for drinks and food, it was a horrible experience. We are locals and won't return.
WE SAT DOWN AND WAITED OVER 35 MINUTES BEFORE ANYONE EVEN ASKED US WHAT WE WOULD LIKE TO DRINK. THAN AFTER WE ORDERED IT TOOK ANOTHER 20 MINUTES BEFORE WE WERE ASKED BY MANAGER ABOUT DRINKS THAT STILL WERE NOT DELIVERED... THIS SHOULD GIVE YOU AN IDEA HOW BAD THE EXPERINCE AT THIS PLACE WAS... I BELIEVE IT WAS THE WORST EXPERINCE EVER! HORRIBLE SERVICE & FOOD!!
The initial welcome, attentive service, knowledge of wines, and the food (lamb shank) were all so very good. The restaurant design was comforable, warm and inviting. We went on a weeknight evening. Great local find !
I was very disappointed the ribeye steak was very fatty. The wedge salad was watery and the salad dressing was watery
Asked one of the hotel managers for a recommendation for good seafood. He said we should try Rodney's right in the hotel and we would not be disappointed. We took his recommendation and made reservations for 7:00. My wife ordered a Cosmopolitan and asked for it not too sweet. A watered-down, void of taste drink arrived. My martini was the same. My wife ordered the halibut with spaghetti squash and kale. I ordered seafood cioppino. My wife's halibut was well done and completely dried out. The spaghetti squash was completely tasteless. My cioppino broth/sauce tasted like a can of Campbell's tomato soup. Not good. The waiter came over and took the halibut back to the kitchen and after some discussion with the staff, said they would make a new one. They did and brought it back. I'm sorry to say, but the second one was just as bad, if not worse than the first one. There is nothing worse than dry seafood. So, we sent that one back, as well. The waiter apologized, and said they would take the halibut off the check. The wait staff, although very nice, seemed inexperienced. I paid the check and left the restaurant.
My wife, in the meantime, had nothing for dinner and it was too late to go off the hotel property to look for another restaurant. She stopped by the gift shop and bought a candy bar.
This was not exactly the type of evening we had planned. And, needless to say, we will not try the restaurant again.
This is a really nice place. I took my mom for her birthday. The restaurant sits across from Santa Barbara beach. Wait staff was excellent. Food was outstanding. We started with onion soup with Gruyere which was just right, nicely balanced flavors and not too much salt. Note: don't say "no" to the complementary bread as its a fantastic homemade olive and out of this world. Mom said the lamb shank was the best she'd ever had and we are Greek so that means something. My special of swordfish on asparagus with crab and hollandaise was melt in my mouth delicious.
Salads were good. Entrees were slightly over cooked: medium rare steak was medium; fish was dry. For a restaurant in Sideways country the wine list is really uninspired. Service was the bright spot: Helpful, attentive and friendly. But if we weren't staying at the hotel there would be no reason to go back.
The restaurant was welcoming and staff was great. Food was exceptional as well as perfectly prepared. Thoroughly enjoyed our experiences. See you next Valentine's Day. Chef Kirk did an exceptional job
Service was great. Food is horribly outdated. Canned mushrooms. Sauce from a powder bag. Airplane level food. Salad was horrible. Wilted soggy lettuce. Hard to mess up a basic appetizer Caesar salad but they did. I can't understate how bad the food was. Front of house staff was friendly and attentive but every dish was really bad. Embarrassing for them. Time for a new head chef.
We have dined here a few times out of convenience but this is the last time. It was so terribly corporate. It felt like being on a low class cruise ship. Food was served cold. Decor take you right back to the 80s. It was better as a steakhouse with comfortable booths. Get with it rodneys. We love the location but come on with the food
This was the second time we ate here (the first was a week ago). This time my companion had the crab cakes appetizer. (He wasn't hungry). He thought there was too much breading and not enough crab. I had the scottish salmon with tomatoes and broth: excellent!. Rodneys is really a steak house but we decided on seafood. Sides are extra!
My dining companion ordered the NY steak but received the filet mignon. He wasn't charged the filet price. it was cooked to medium rare as requested. I order the local halibut, excellent! Sides are extra. The ceasar was nice as they split it with a bit of extras on it.
My new husband and I decided to "stay in" for dinner after eloping to the beautiful Santa Barbara courthouse for our wedding earlier that day. We made reservations at Rodney's but the restaurant was not full. We were seated quickly and our server was very attentive. Although the French Onion soup was good, it could have been even better. But it was tasty. We shared the ribeye which we had prepared medium rare. It was cooked to perfection and served with three different sauces including bordelaise, peppercorn, and Bernaise. We also ordered the asparagus with hollandaise sauce, which was equally good. We did not indulge in any desserts, which we will have to try on another visit. Usually hotel food is overpriced and not very good. This was truly a little gem we did not expect. Definitely someplace we will visit again.
