Fernando's is a tequila bar and restaurant specializing in Mexican cuisine. For more than 35 years, this restaurant has offered a variety of menu options using the freshest ingredients possible. Listed as a favorite in the Chicago area, Fernando's offers a varied menu that includes specialties such as the queso fundido and tamarindo glazed chicken, along with the requisite taquitos, tacos and quesadillas one would expect at a Mexican restaurant.
Located near the corner of W. Newport Ave and N. Lincoln, guests are invited to enjoy strong margaritas paired with street cart favorites like the tamale colado, or for those wanting something more Tex-inspired, the smoked chipotle BBQ ribs. Vegans are also welcome, where they'll discover veggie burritos and veggie fajitas. From the spicy to the mild, Fernando's has dishes that everyone in the family will enjoy.
Very nice place for a pre-Cubs evening game meal. We had a mixed group of game-goers and kids, and everyone found something delicious to order from the varied menu. The fajita burrito was loaded with my protein choice (pork carnitas), and served with two sides of my choosing (borracho beans and poblano rice). Excellent Margarita on the rocks. Best value was free street parking on Sunday! :-)
Great server. Decent food. A little noisey with people chattering and musuc. But all in all a delightful place and this was our second dinner and we will be back.
We've been going to Fernando's for 30 years! Cinco deMayo was so much fun as usual. Even had Mariachi band, so yes, very festive on 5/5! Never disappointed with the food. Always good. Margaritas are the best in Chicago!
Besides our waitress asking if we wanted salt on our piña coladas, and then giving us a tude when we looked at her crazy everything was great.
Food was good, but he margarita was awesome.
Very friendly and helpful staff, music was a bit too loud. Nothing special about the margaritas but food was excellent.
Always a fun place to eat! The margaritas are delicious and strong!!
Food was great but the waiter refused to refill my coke & was a bit shady when it came to the bill. Not sure he understood it
The meal was great the service was outstanding our waiter was the BEST!
Food was good as always!! Will return!!
Great place. The staff is very accommodating, allowing you to mix and match items. They are always on the ball and seem to know when to appear and ask what else might be needed. The beer is ice cold, the margs are strong and flavorful and the price is right. Nothing else you could ask for in a local neighborhood Mexican restaurant.
Good service always has been a great place for Mexican even though the streak favor wasn’t as great as normal.
I would give the place a solid "B". Food, and drinks was good but not outstanding. Drinks a little on the pricey side for the neighborhood. Our waitress was lacking, nice but seemed overwhelmed.
Fernando’s is one of our favorite go to Mexican restaurants. Strong and delicious margaritas, quick and friendly service, mouthwatering food, what more could you ask for?!
Great margaritas! Kid friendly
Really enjoyed my meal. Server was very friendly and provided helpful hints in what to order. The food cane out fast which was way better than previous trip where we waited over an hour for the food. Will come back again !!
Great service. Love the menu. Perfect for families with kids.
Great Margaritas and Mexican fare! The queso Fundido is very good.
Fernando's never disappoints! Delicious food and margaritas, great service and atmosphere. We've been going to Fernando's for years, and we always have a great time!
We've been going to Fernando's for over 30 years. Love the food, the margaritas and our favorite waiter, Hugo!
Awesome food, drink and staff!
Very high quality consistent food. Been coming here for 25 years. Music has become somewhat loud and relentless, making it hard to converse.
it was a nice meal with good margaritas. our server was great and very helpful!
The food is good, but we always come back for the friendly service.
This a nice place to visit and celebrate special occasions but unfortunately, this time our experience was a little bit different due to the fact that there were children not well supervised by their parents.
One more thing. I was expecting to have my table ready but that was not the case. We had to wait for our table to be ready.
Wow...the service is incredibly slooooow. We were told it was a busy night and we all looked around at about 1/2 dozen tables full. The food was okay-not the best not the worst. To get the pill and then pay it was like watching paint dry on a humid Sunday. Will not go back.
Good mango margarita, mojitos, chips and salsa, burritos, tacos, etc. Fun ambience. Service could be more attentive though.
Food and service was fine. However, conversation was extremely challenging besides the many TV's, loud talking, there was also very loud and irritating music in the dining area. It was not in the bar area. Had we known, we would have stayed in the bar.
The food and presentation are delicious and well crafted respectively. The wait staff are also very attentive, kind, and courteous. Highly recommended.
Great food. Good prices. Fun ambience. Amazing margaritas!
Great fun had by all. Margaritas and food the best
We’re a regular and enjoy everything on the menu every time we go. Easy place for kids and adults alike. Gr at service and always pick Hugo’s section.
The food here was fantastic, especially for the price! I live downtown, so we made the trip out on the brown line to get here and it was well worth it. I would go back!
Excellent value, great service, menu a little confusing in terms of description and no drink menu at all.
It's our third time here and every time it's great food and service! It doesn't matter how busy they are, the quality of the food and service is always great
Very bad service, and my vegetarian enchiladas were terrible - broccoli and carrots as the vegetables in an enchilada? My wife's steak torta was bland and tough.
The food is great, loved the margaritas. Hugo and Reyes especially were amazing and we definitely want to call them out since they will keep us going back.
Excellent service, excellent food, whole family enjoyed the experience
I made a reservation for 12 for my birthday. We arrived at the restaurant nearly ten minutes early for the reservation to find out that they cancelled it without warning. We had to wait around for them to find us a new table. When we were finally seated and served, the waitress screwed up multiple orders (which is understandable for a party of our size) but then she was rude when we had to send the wrong food back. Two of us are vegetarian so we ordered cheese quesadillas and she brought us out a chicken quesadilla and a steak quesadilla, so there was no way we could even eat them.
When dinner was over, the restaurant sent me a bowl of fried ice cream and sang happy birthday...then they tried to bill the ice cream to us, even though we didn't ask for it! They also charged the chicken and steak quesadillas to our bill even though we had to send them back. Again, the waitress was very snippy with us when we asked them to be removed from our bill.
Overall, I wish I had chosen a different restaurant for my birthday. The food was really good, but everything else was awful. We spent the rest of the night joking about how awful the restaurant was and how rude the service was. I will not be back to Fernando's anytime soon and neither will any of my friends. I definitely would not recommend this restaurant to anyone! And no point in making a reservation because they won't keep it!
