Waitress didn’t know how to open bottle of wines . Chicken Parmesan has no cheese and marinara was very skimpy. No flavor at all and it wAs cool. We were supposed to have separate checks but didn’t . Wrong dessert was brought to us and wine glasses weren’t brought. Ordered Cobb salad and they forgot dressing. Service was super slow and never was asked if we wanted another cocktail .
We came here for the Southern Sunday Buffet Brunch ($24.99) which isn't offered very often. The doors open at 11 but food doesn't come out until 11:30 so don't bother coming early. The food was very good and they had things like biscuits and gravy, jambalaya, fried chicken, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, catfish, mac and cheese, potatoes, collard greens, green beans, fruit, and little pastries. I only wish they had beignets for dessert. Brunch came with a complimentary mimosa (for $10 extra you can get bottomless mimosas) which was very nice. Service was very attentive. There was also music by the 13 Strings and they didn't start till 11:30 so another reason not to get there early. I really enjoyed the music and food (especially the fried chicken and mac and cheese!) and would definitely go back.
The experience at Fenix last Friday Feb 8th was fair. It should be mentioned that the service was very slow in addition the wait staff are not well trained. We brought our own bottle of excellent wine. Our server then popped it open and filled our wine glasses almost to the brim... yikes!!! My water glass came marked with lipstick yuk!!!. My Chicken Picatta was undercooked and along with the rest of our food was served 90 minutes after ordering ... after the band started up and people dancing around us. Most of my meal was left uneaten. Upon arrival for our 7pm reservation, the host seemed confused about our reservation, we were not made to feel welcome. The band The Sun Kings were very good and it made for fun evening. I doubt we will take advantage of the dining option at Fenix in future but will perhaps return to see band perform there.
Thank you so much for this feedback. We have been working diligently on mastering a solution for over 100 people entering the dining room in 45 minutes and all needing service. The formula is a tough one. We are committed to making this work. We so appreciate your comments and will strive to improve.
It was dead and depressing. Felt bad for Charles Unger and the wait staff. Chicken Piccata was only warm.
It was really great!
Fenix never disappoints. One of the better music/dinner/drinks/dance places in Marin!!
We had a reservation for Sunday brunch, they even required me to give a credit card number. We waited outside the restaurant for over an hour and they never even opened! How can they do business like this? Awful customer service! If they are not open for brunch they should not advertise that they are, or take reservations for brunch! Beware of this place but if you really want to go, talk to a human being beforehand to be sure they are open. I'm guessing they will soon be out of business with these kinds of business practices.
This restaurant was not open at my reservation time. We waited for over an hour and the restaurant never opened. Do not make reservation through OPEN TABLE and show up because they may not be open.
Even though our waiter was in the weeds, he had a great attitude. he was fast and on top of it, the kitchen is small so they can only produce so much at once. But, the food was all fresh and tasty.
My friends and I celebrated birthdays and National Friendship Day during the
Sunday - Jazz music and Catfish Creole style buffet brunch. We had excellent service and the food was delicious.
Laura and Taylor were very friendly and attentive to my guests and me, by providing excellent customer service.
The music was great! The Fenix atmosphere granted us all with a memorable blessed sistership/friendship day.
Open table and the restaurant website says this place opens at 11... so I made an 11:15 reservation. Got there and it was SO awkward because NO ONE else was there. We didn’t even get food until almost NOON. The manager ? Said to us at one point that things don’t start happening until 11:45 and that’s fine.... but there was no music playing or nothing to indicate there was a pre-party.
So when the food was finally put out, it was awful. The bacon was in like 4 in pieces that were so over cooked..... the sausage was over cooked and it was son perplexing because it was just put out. The saving grace was our server and the fact that you got mimosas included...
I will never come back here or recommend this to anyone. I totally took one for the team...
We've been to the Fenix a number of times, so it's time to write a review. We went with two other couples, and everyone had an enjoyable experience. Great food off the new menu, good drinks, but the best was the music. Fenix has the best sound system in the county, and books some great acts. Last night we saw, listened and danced to the Chicago Tribute Band - great stuff!
I went to this place for my birthday and had a great time - the food was amazing!
The reason we gave Fenix a poor score is because they were closed when we got there. We had received a reservation confirmation from Open Table a couple of days earlier. when I looked up reviews for Fenix, apparently they have done this several times before. Taking reservations (I understand with a credit card) and then the restaurant wasn't open. I wouldn't go unless I called ahead and someone answered the phone and verified they were indeed open. Poor business practice for sure
Father’s Day brunch with family. Service was fantastic. Greeter was friendly and helpful. Our waiter Taylor was engaging and provided excellent service. The food was good for a buffet brunch lots of options. Loved the grits and the fried chicken was crispy ,moist and not greasy. The entertainment was unexpected and quite nice. Short walk from the train. We will go back with friends and see what it is like in the evening and when we can order off the menu.
We made a reservation where they requested our credit card to confirm the reservation and they were closed! If I could give it zero stars, I would. That’s not acceptable to be taking reservations AND asking for personal information and be closed upon arrival.
Drinks were good, but the food was awful. Lacked flavor.
When we first found out about the Fenix we have always had a great time. We were coming even when chef gator was doing the southern Buffett lunch now that was hella good. Great place the gather with family and friends!
we showed up for our reservation which they required credit card to book and the restaurant was closed.
Made reservations for brunch arrived and it was closed! Bummer no notice no answer no band no brunch!
We went to see a friend’s jazz group. Love the setup and venue but the buffet food, except for the fried chicken, was awful. Even the bottomless mimosas were “light”.
The restaurant was not open, tried calling and no answer waited outside the restaurant for over 30 minutes. Restaurant opens at 11 we arrived at 1145 reservations were at 1230. Super disappointed that I was unable to celebrate seeing my husband in over a month for day. Back to work he goes tomorrow and we had to spend most of our day looking for a place to eat
Wonderful place to dine and see great bands like Greg Johnson and the Glass Brick Boulevard!
We arrived at the restaurant in time for our reservation… And the restaurant never opened… We waited for about 45 minutes after the restaurant was supposed to be open and no one ever showed up… I have been here before and had a wonderful experience so I was very surprised… I’ve tried to contact the management to figure out what happen yet have received no return phone calls… Very disappointed
Top shelf was terrific, however, management was greedy and put tables where the dance floor should have been . . . ! It was a shame to have a fabulous dance band and virtually no place to dance. VERY POOR DECISION BY MANAGEMENT!
I have been here a number times in the past , and have generally found it good. However, While the service Was still Good, I found the food was not up to their Past standard, and they charged for amateur Entertainment. We were this there to celebrate my friend's birthday, but left and went over to Terrrapins For entertainment after eating.
Excellent food, great music, a must go for special occasions or a romantic evening with that special person!
Great music and ambience, limited menu, good wine list- this is a great place for exploring new bands. We heard King James and we would go again to hear them.
We went for brunch on Father's Day. They were obviously under-staffed. We didn't receive our complimentary mimosas until after we were finished with our meals and we asked for them 4 times. They kept running out of food and plates, which kept people waiting at the buffet creating long lines. The only good thing is that most of food was rather tasty. I felt sorry for the servers, but I feel management should have stepped in and checked on tables and buffet.
Awesome music with The Overcommitments, great dancing! Food was good and service was great.
Came to see Overcommittments specifically! They are great. Service bad
Enjoy going to the Fenix for dancing to great live music such as Reed Fromer or Greg Ballad with a side of dinner. Since they were out of the only vegetarian entree, I order mac and cheese (tasty but standard) and a vegetable dish (which was notable for the lightly cooked garlic).
It was a nice outing for my mom and I for mother's day. I would have loved an option to dine with just my mom and I rather than how we were seated but I realize how the set up played to having live music. My mom and I loved the food offered for the buffet brunch and would love to try the menu. Definitely would visit with friends for a night out.
Always enjoy the Fenix! Great supper club. Music is always fab!!
Love the venue it was really great the customer service was off the chain. Our waiter was very attentive! the show was great not too loud
We had the steak, a bit chewy with more fat than necessary, but veggies that came with main course were superb. We expected pre-dinner bread but that was not part of the meal. Service was superb and the place was perfect setting for Top Shelf which was the reason for this visit.
The band was great. the lead singer Bridgette played her original song, "Women Know" was a hit and will be a classic. The setting and the ambience sets a great mood to enjoy the music, people, and food. Classy yet comfortable environment. Great place for enjoying live music.
We were so excited to go to the Fenix to hear the King James Band on Friday night and have a delicious meal with friends. Club is in a great location and is a beautiful space inside. Clean, spacious, inviting, nice colors. Looked promising! Young male waitstaff is very inexperienced -- they need training. Our waitress was working hard to keep up and doing a good job of it, but the young men clearing tables and bringing food were quite inexperienced. At one point my friend was chewing and had about 1/4 of her salmon on her plate when a young waiter came to take it. She said, "Wait! I'm still eating." Everyone got their meal except me because of "a mix-up in the kitchen," per our harried waitress, and I received my dinner after everyone had finished and their plates were cleared. Rather uncomfortable eating my dinner after everyone else was done. Food was good, but feeling rushed after getting food late was not good. One had steak and said was was delicious, and my friend's salmon was just the way she likes it. I'll give the Fenix another try, but wouldn't heartily endorse it. It could be a really good spot, and maybe I just caught them on an off night. But they should have a training meeting and teach their staff about courteous service and ambiance. A smile instead of looking frazzled and stressed goes a long way in making for a nice dining experience.
I ordered the CHICKEN BATON ROUGE and I was NOT pleased. The presentation was the least to be desired, very sloppy plating. The chicken it self was unidentifiable, under the huge pile of beige sauce and string veggies. The potatoes were COLD, as was the sauce which covered the rubbery piece of chicken breast. My date ordered the Salmon and Crab-cakes which she says were fine, and I agree the crab-cakes were tasty. I on the other awoke to an upset stomach! I assume I received a bad plate which happens now and again, but this dish over all in comparison to the rest of your menu is not a winner... Maybe a fire grilled chicken breast, and definitly a different sauce. I understand that on this particular night was the first time your establishment was sold out, but not one likes to receive cold food especially mashed pototoes. Other than that, very nice bar and stage area.
I have been to Fenix many times, it is one of my favorite places. However, on Saturday, there was a performance and another party, 55 men, were extremely rude to the performer and other people. I think their party was too large for the Fenix, or perhaps they should have picked another night to celebrate their homeboy's b'day. Made the evening less enjoyable....but enjoyed the drinks and good. Perhaps when booking large parties, you might engage the person a little more about what else is going on that same evening, etc...
