About Feng Asian Bistro
Feng Asian Bistro is definitely the place to be. The overall impression is stunning and the swirl of the crowd is exciting. The mix-match possibilities of a menu with sushi and sashimi, rolls, hand rolls, platters, main dishes and sides boggle the mind. Just reading the sushi bar menu makes your mouth water: "Foxy Lady" with calamari, papaya, avocado and salmon; "Italian Stallion," with shrimp tempura, cucumber, asparagus, spicy yellowtail and aoko and momiji sauce; and Feng's signature roll "Number 93," with deep-fried soft shell crab, Parmesan cheese, jalapeno, black caviar and flakes of real gold. With its sophisticated, upscale atmosphere, Feng seems more like the type of restaurant you would expect to find in New York or Boston. It is a refreshing change of pace for diners in the market for something a little more out of the ordinary.

Feng Asian Bistro Ratings and Reviews
We selected Feng Asian Bistro due to its high rating on social media, and that a friend had recently went there and liked it very much. I would have to agree with both sources of info; this is a fantastic place. We had Edamame with Hawaiian Black Salt. Of the dozens of edamame varieties I have eaten over the years, this was one of the best. The beans boiled to perfection, too. The Kumamoto oysters were also delicious. The ponzu/hot sauce on them were perfect and I felt I didn't need to additionally squirt lemon on them (as the ponzu is quite citrusy already). We had a sushi and a sashimi platter for the main courses. While I felt the quantity of sashimi pieces were less than I expected, the dish made up for it with top quality cuts. Also, absolutely perfectly sized pieces. Not too thin nor too thick. My wife, who is Japanese, liked the taste, texture and size of the sushi rice on her nigiri pieces.
The selection of alcohol was also good. I drank prosecco, and wished I had ordered to bottle rather than go through 4 glasses. Normally, I drink 1 or 2 proseccos before moving to beer...
Since it was my birthday, they gave us a free dessert, and it was so good we went ahead and ordered a 2nd dessert even though we were full.
It was a slow night (Thursday), but the staff was kind and attentive, with everyone offering greetings both coming and going. I feel one would get the same amount of attention even on a busy night.
Dinners were good. Service was was pretty good but left menus on the table. The furniture (e.g. chairs) were very worn. No one asked if we were going to the theater (we were) and we later realized they provide a discount for Hartford Stage. So we missed out on that. Not very busy (a Thursday evening).
Usually I love eating at Feng's sister restaurant in Canton. I usually have sashimi that is delicious. However, this meal at Fend in Hartford was disappointing. Three of the four entrees were quite poor. I asked for my salmon rare and it came well done. I did not send it back because we were tight for time. Two other guests had bronzino which was not very tasty and overly salty. My appetizer of duck rolls were tasteless. One guest had a very good suchi (sp?). Overall, not a good night at Feng.
Six of us had dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday. With one exception the food was very good, especially the dim sum appetizer. One dinner, the strip steak, was inedible. The waiter said he would 'fix it', but came back with the same piece of meat. By the time he brought out another steak, the rest of us had finished. He offered a free dessert to smooth things over. Finally the manager agreed to credit the bad meal.
We went to dinner with another couple to celebrate birthdays and we had a fabulous time. The wait staff was very attentive and very friendly. The food was delicious. The menu was unique and had a lot of variety. There was something for everyone on the menu. We will definitely come back again!!!
I was a little disappointed with the martini that I ordered but the sushi was delicious.
The chairs are a bit worn but the restaurant is dark so it doesn't take away from the greater atmosphere.
Would go back just for the food with lower expectations of the experience.
