Actually, my recommendation would be to BEWARE! Upon arrival for our 5:30 p.m. reservation, the host informed us that we had to finish by 6:35 p.m. b/c the patrons for that evening's show would need all the tables....sold out performance. WAIT! I made my reservation two weeks ago and no one mentioned they were "closing early!" Plus, they seated the 2 of us in the far back almost behind the grand piano! The whole experience in visiting this iconic place, a place I was at in 1980, was disappointing to say the least.
The food and service at 54 Below are always second to none, and the entertainment top-notch (for a separate fee, of course). Every experience we've ever had there has been worth every penny spent.
Love this place! Beautiful lighting & ambience - a true “supper club”. Service by Kyle was outstanding, food excellent & fabulous & strong martinis. Great location in theatre district,r right next to Studio 54 for any plays you may want to see — scooted out before the cabaret show started, would definitely stay for that next time - it was sold out with the beautiful Lindsay Mendez.
The venue and dining experience is great. However, if you’ll also be attending a music performance, do NOT get any of the side tables — the view angle is really horrible. I’m surprised the Michael Feinstein hasn’t noticed this problem and improved the stage set up to have performers fully engage the audience better in all parts of the room.
We had a pre-theatre dinner which meant we had to leave before 7. The staff was extremely courteous and efficient. We didn't feel rushed. The food was delicious and beautifully presented.
It was an odd check in process with nobody really sure what was going on. Beyond that it was unique. I'd suggest slightly better than business casual dress.
Absolutely wonderful food and service! The best short ribs I have ever tasted!!
Great pre show dinner. Can’t wait to go back and enjoy the music
The food, drinks, and entertainment were all outstanding!
My friend and I were going to see Sweat which is in the Studio 54 Theatre. When I read about this restaurant and Chef Lynn Bound, being a foodie I thought we should try it - aside from the fact that it's right downstairs from the theatre. We had our doubts when we saw the mob waiting to get in as it's actually a cabaret venue but they handled it beautifully once the doors opened and we were seated. The service and the food are equally excellent. We had very nice wine by the glass, shared the lemon lobster ravioli (yum) and we both ordered the espresso rubbed hanger steak which was cooked perfectly, was nicely tender and tasted delicious. Shared the key lime pie - excellent! - and met the Chef!
AND they timed it perfectly - without rushing us - so we were upstairs with 10 minutes to spare before the show. We plan to go back for the Cabaret.
In town for two days only and thrilled we chose this restaurant fordinner. The food was amazing and service was too!
This was our first time at 54 below, but it will not be our last. We enjoyed the atmosphere, the food, and the service was truly outstanding. It was fun to be part of such a vibrant, energetic scene.
Caberet style seating, shared tables. We reserved for pre- theater dinner. Ambiance fabulous, server and food very good. Would return gladly for a show. Not clear when we made reservation that we had to be out by 6:30 for pre-theater reservation, and that we would be seated with other people.
The pre- theater information should be made clear when reserving table. That is the only reason for 4 stars rather than 5.
We found this place by doing a quick search for restraunts in the thearter district, and i am so happy for this find! If we did not have Tix to see a play we would have stayed longer then just dinner! I can not wait to go back!
Had a great night out with my husband. We had tickets for Holiday Inn at Studio 54. The restaurant is right next door. The food and the ambience was great. We will definitely be back.
Wow, the food was delicious. Great pre-theater option; comfortable, friendly and a great room.
We went here for dinner prior to seeing a show at Studio 54. What a perfect location and wonderful experience. It makes us want to see a performance here in this magical space. The staff was super friendly and efficient. Everyone there seemed to be happy to be there-as most were there to eat before the show that was scheduled there. We shall definitely go back another time-and to see a performance in their space too.
Excellent venue, with excellent decor. Fantastic food and very friendly staff.
The food was good, nothing amazing but good. The wine per glass prices were high, the noise level was very high, and children were running around yelling and screaming not making the dinner relaxing or enjoyable. Service was just ok, we waited a long time for drinks and then again for the check.
Fabulous had no idea thus place existed, I used to go to studio 54 back in the day and this was such a pleasant surprise and being a huge fan of show tunes and broadway u can imagine my excitement and delight ! Definitely will make this a destination everytine I come to the city!
Great location, under the Roundabout Theatre at Studio 54. The prix fixe menu was convenient, yet pricing was quite high and I'm not sure the food lived up to the prices. It would be best to go to Feinstein's if also staying for their show at 7, as we were told in no uncertain terms that we need to be "done & gone" by showtime.
Very enjoyable. Filet mignon was excellent Efficient wait staff. Will definitely return.
Short rib, crab cakes appetizer and drinks
you go for the theater not for the food. We were impressed by the set up and the decor but this is nowhere you would want to go out of your way to eat it is like mediocre banquet food at best.
Although we couldn't stay for show, the ambience created an exciting "let's put on a show" atmosphere. Adults and children will find something to like about the menu. the spare ribs were the best I have ever had anywhere, anytime! Service was excellent.
My wife and I went to Feinstein's/54 Below prior to a Broadway show on a Saturday night. It exceed all of our expectations in every way. This supper club looks like something that you read about in novels from a bygone era. This place is a classic in a very good way. And the food and service was excellent, prices were reasonable plus we were fortunate enough to stay for a few songs and listen to the exceptional Broadway musical star of the evening, accompanied by a fantastic jazz quartet. Usually the pre-theater dinner guests are told in advance they have to leave prior to the show, or pay to stay, but our waitress said we can stay for a couple of songs and that really sold us on coming back to this gem of a place in the near future. We really wished we could have stayed longer for the complete show. The only negative that ended up being a positive was the seating was cramped just like most New York clubs and we didn't know we were going to have our romantic dinner with other guests at our table, so be prepared to sit at a table with other diners. The people we sat with were very nice and made what first seemed like an awkward moment into a really nice and interesting experience. It added another dimension to this very classic and fantastic NY supper club. We can't wait to go back!
I was a little worried about booking dinner before going to a play at a location that is known for it own entertainment. We got there when it opened and there was a bit of confusion getting checked in but having the Open Table helped speed that up. We went for the Pre-Fix menu with three courses where they offer 2 choices per course. We ordered different option on each course so we ended up sampling that whole menu. Food was fantastic. Great bar with a wine list that will hang with other places just offering a dining experience. If you are only eating dinner you have to finish before the show starts so go early. We did and had plenty of time to eat before their show started as well as our play.
Great service, food & ambiance
I asked for a table a little out of the way and got one in a good location. We've eaten here before and the food is good and service is just fine. We were not staying for the show since we were going to the show upstairs so it got rather crowded before we left. Apparently we were the only ones not staying for the show downstairs. This was our third time here, and we will probably try something different the next time, just for a change.
Service was great, and our waitress was very pleasant and accommodating. Menu was reasonably priced, not many choices on menu, but made ordering easy, and it did covered all the food groups. Potato soup was creamy, and tasty. My braised short rib was delicious, and my wife's salmon was cooked to order. We usually don't order dessert, but the coconut chocolate pie looked too good to pass up and we weren't disappointed. Nice wine list , but would be nice have a bottle of red/white under $50.00. Our dinner ended in time for the 7pm show, and we're treated to a great performance by nightclub and 'Broadway' singers. Enjoyable night!
We ate here before seeing a Broadway show. The food was excellent and our server Dana was great.
We went to Feinstein's prior to seeing a Broadway show. Had a great table where the service was wonderful and the food was even better. We opted for the three course meal and both my wife's salmon and my steak were cooked to perfection. The desserts we ordered were out of bounds. Recommend this place to anyone going into NYC especially before or after seeing a show on Broadway.
We were in midtown for a show and dropped in for dinner. They have a floor show that starts at 7. We were able to get in at 5:30 and out at 7 just as they started their show. It is convent to the Theater district and we were at our theater in 10 minutes. The food was fantastic. Most of our party did the $50 three course dinner and raved about the filet. I went lighter and enjoyed my two courses. The service was quick and our waitress was a doll. Since we were early, there was no crowd and
This restaurant worked well for a pre-theater meal ~ the service was outstanding, the food very well prepared, and the ambiance relaxing! Highly recommend for the meal - looking forward to a future visit that includes the on-site show!
I chose 54 Below for a dinner with my daughter because so many of her favorite Broadway stars have performed there. What I didn't expect was the exemplary quality of the food and service as well as how reasonable the prices are. We didn't stay for the show as we were attending a play, so we made our reservations for 5:15 so we could be out well before the show crowd. It was a wonderful experience that I hope to repeat in the future.
Went here because I needed a good meal before the theater. The listing was not clear about this being a show venue and that at some point they would come by our table and insist on us either paying to hear the music or get out. Waitress was great, but the guy that spoke to us was rude.
Love the premise of this place, but they need to be clear about this going in.
We stepped into another world when we walked down the staircase from the street. The service was outstanding and the food and wine are very good but pricey. The ambience is a throw back to the days of night clubs and dining. Fun!
Attended before show at theater did not know show there was a show at that seating. Food was solid. Seasoned nuts for apps was worth having again. Service was impeccable in a tight space. Would do again but not before theater.
We were there when the restaurant opened at 5:15 (only time available that Saturday night) restaurant was relatively quiet, but was just filling up so hard to say if the noise level would continue to be so pleasant.
Lobster salad was wonderful, as was the carrot soup. The dessert profiteroles were in a lovely mango reduction. We loved it!
