Made a 5:30 dinner rez. When arrived at the restaurant, we found out we need to leave by 6:30. At 6:15, they were literally taking away plates without asking. I had to remind them that we have 15 more minutes. While food was good, the arctic char they served me was microscopic. It was not even an appetizer size, and they charge $29 for that.
They should not accept reservations for 5:30 pre-show dinners, that's the bottom line. Paid $65 per person for a very rushed dinner, had tension with the manager, and left the restaurant hungry.
The atmosphere is great, the space is very pretty., and that's where the two stars go.
Didn’t know we had to vacate by 6:30 for their show
Wonderful typically New Year Theater in its sensibility - everything was just perfect: our server, the atmosphere and the food was sensational. The prix fixe pre theater dinner was excellent. Can't wait to return and hear some great singing too!
Food, service, and menu are excellent but portion size is small. It is a great venue for pre-show dinner because you have ample time to eat.
This was a great dinner thank you
It was wonderful. We were fully accommodated! Our only issue was we felt a bit neglected by our waiter at times, but it was an incredibly busy night so we took no offense to it!
They should not give out reservations at 5pm when the show does not even start until 7pm.
Steak was cold and we were rushed out after our meal because they told us they needed the table at 6:30 (our reservation was at 5:30 for 4 people). Service was great but we were surprised a restaurant would even tell us they needed our table by a certain time or even plan to have a table of four in and out in an hour.
Vacation and birthday
The entire staff to include the waitress were very rude. They just wanted us to eat as quickly as possible
I brought a friend for her 50th birthday and we were both very pleasantly surprised at the whole experience during our time at the restaurant. My only complaint was that I was not told before hand that we had to leave by 6:30 because they had their own show. I booked a month in advance and I had no clue. We had to leave by seven, they graciously extended us 30 more minutes For which I was grateful, for our 8 o’clock show. Would have liked to have stayed another half hour but besides that I definitely give it five stars and will be going back. This time I will book for their show 👍😁
Love this venue and am a club member. Food is quite good but service needs a little work. Waited forever for drinks and only 3 of 4 entrees were served together. We had to hunt down the 4th!
Too many orders taken during the performance which was a major distraction- still love the venue and the fabulous music! Laura Osnes and Tony Yazback were FANTASTIC
Great dinner. Food delicious, drinks great, pricey it’s true. Nice service. We had theater tickets upstairs for Kiss Me Kate at 8pm. Our Rez was for 5:30. The waiter told us we must vacate the table by 6:45. That was shocking and not mentioned on the Open Table booking site. What were we to do from 6:45 to 8? But someone did come over and tell us we were welcome to sit at the bar for a bit before we retrieve our tickets. Very nice. We got to see 20 minutes or so of the show that started at 7:30(?). I would go back for a treat (pricey) with friends for fun.
We made reservations a few days ahead of arrival which paid off because they filled up quickly. The food was phenomenal and the atmosphere was lovely. Next time we're going to stay for the show.
Be aware: The food is great but it's a dinner theatre. You get 2 1/2 hours then have to vacate the property for the show. We thought it was a regular restaurant. Won't return. for that reason.
Bottom line: if you’re not going for the cabaret (really bad), don’t go trying to have s lovely dinner. We arrived at 5:30 for a 5:39 reservation to find a locked door. When we finally found someone to answer the bell, and get us to an elevator (I am handicapped) it was probably 5:40. The hostess told us we would have to vacate our table at 6:45. We were meeting a friend and had looked forward to a leisurely dinner pre-theatre next door. I argued but the hostess insisted that we were informed . She insisted that open table is clear about this policy for this reservation. Hmmmm. THEN, to add insult to injury, we were told that other people would be seated with us at our (teeny) table. I had requested a seat st an electric outlet if possible, which request was honored despite much fuss. The manager kept insisting that the restaurant was so wonderful because they had honored ALL of my requests. (Just the one , but he made quite a verbal fuss) All in all, a very frustrating experience. We would have walked out w wbut at that point, at 6:00 on a Saturday night, it wasn’t looking promising for an alternative. Needless to say we did not have s relaxed or enjoyable experience.
Our only disappointment was in the fact that train delays caused us to end our visit on the last amazing bite, as we had a show to get to at Radio City.
We 'do' look forward to returning--and getting to have dessert! ☺️
Atmosphere was fun yet romantic. I had the duck entree, ravioli appetizer and red wine. Our server was knowledgeable about food, drink, and the show we were going to see nearby. Food and drink was excellent.
Actually, my recommendation would be to BEWARE! Upon arrival for our 5:30 p.m. reservation, the host informed us that we had to finish by 6:35 p.m. b/c the patrons for that evening's show would need all the tables....sold out performance. WAIT! I made my reservation two weeks ago and no one mentioned they were "closing early!" Plus, they seated the 2 of us in the far back almost behind the grand piano! The whole experience in visiting this iconic place, a place I was at in 1980, was disappointing to say the least.
The food and service at 54 Below are always second to none, and the entertainment top-notch (for a separate fee, of course). Every experience we've ever had there has been worth every penny spent.
Love this place! Beautiful lighting & ambience - a true “supper club”. Service by Kyle was outstanding, food excellent & fabulous & strong martinis. Great location in theatre district,r right next to Studio 54 for any plays you may want to see — scooted out before the cabaret show started, would definitely stay for that next time - it was sold out with the beautiful Lindsay Mendez.
The venue and dining experience is great. However, if you’ll also be attending a music performance, do NOT get any of the side tables — the view angle is really horrible. I’m surprised the Michael Feinstein hasn’t noticed this problem and improved the stage set up to have performers fully engage the audience better in all parts of the room.
We had a pre-theatre dinner which meant we had to leave before 7. The staff was extremely courteous and efficient. We didn't feel rushed. The food was delicious and beautifully presented.
It was an odd check in process with nobody really sure what was going on. Beyond that it was unique. I'd suggest slightly better than business casual dress.
Absolutely wonderful food and service! The best short ribs I have ever tasted!!
Great pre show dinner. Can’t wait to go back and enjoy the music
The food, drinks, and entertainment were all outstanding!
My friend and I were going to see Sweat which is in the Studio 54 Theatre. When I read about this restaurant and Chef Lynn Bound, being a foodie I thought we should try it - aside from the fact that it's right downstairs from the theatre. We had our doubts when we saw the mob waiting to get in as it's actually a cabaret venue but they handled it beautifully once the doors opened and we were seated. The service and the food are equally excellent. We had very nice wine by the glass, shared the lemon lobster ravioli (yum) and we both ordered the espresso rubbed hanger steak which was cooked perfectly, was nicely tender and tasted delicious. Shared the key lime pie - excellent! - and met the Chef!
AND they timed it perfectly - without rushing us - so we were upstairs with 10 minutes to spare before the show. We plan to go back for the Cabaret.
In town for two days only and thrilled we chose this restaurant fordinner. The food was amazing and service was too!
This was our first time at 54 below, but it will not be our last. We enjoyed the atmosphere, the food, and the service was truly outstanding. It was fun to be part of such a vibrant, energetic scene.
Caberet style seating, shared tables. We reserved for pre- theater dinner. Ambiance fabulous, server and food very good. Would return gladly for a show. Not clear when we made reservation that we had to be out by 6:30 for pre-theater reservation, and that we would be seated with other people.
The pre- theater information should be made clear when reserving table. That is the only reason for 4 stars rather than 5.
We found this place by doing a quick search for restraunts in the thearter district, and i am so happy for this find! If we did not have Tix to see a play we would have stayed longer then just dinner! I can not wait to go back!
Had a great night out with my husband. We had tickets for Holiday Inn at Studio 54. The restaurant is right next door. The food and the ambience was great. We will definitely be back.
Wow, the food was delicious. Great pre-theater option; comfortable, friendly and a great room.
We went here for dinner prior to seeing a show at Studio 54. What a perfect location and wonderful experience. It makes us want to see a performance here in this magical space. The staff was super friendly and efficient. Everyone there seemed to be happy to be there-as most were there to eat before the show that was scheduled there. We shall definitely go back another time-and to see a performance in their space too.
Excellent venue, with excellent decor. Fantastic food and very friendly staff.
The food was good, nothing amazing but good. The wine per glass prices were high, the noise level was very high, and children were running around yelling and screaming not making the dinner relaxing or enjoyable. Service was just ok, we waited a long time for drinks and then again for the check.
