Feed Body & Soul Ratings and Reviews
I booked through open table and we waited for 35 mins to be seated. The hostess told us after 5 mins that the table was almost ready and then we never saw her again. There was nobody at the hostess table for the next 30 mins. I asked about 3 other servers or bar staff and they each went off but never had an answer. Eventually we had to ask for the manager and he came and seated us. We were then sat by the door to the bar and a band was playing throughout. It was not too much of a nuisance. However after booking and then waiting way too long, there was not much apology and no offer to make up for it. It was really disappointing. I am a local and have always enjoyed Feed (the food is great) I don't think I will risk booking in the evening again, there is too much choice on Abbot Kinney.
WOW. GO. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED... Clean, beautiful, calm...
The ambiance, the friendly front staff, the informed & very helpful waitress, & THEN THE FOOD WOWOWOWOWOW. Indeed interesting in the reading of the menu items, the anticipation of actual taste was high, and absolutely achieved - dish after dish after dish after dish AND then dessert. What a complete experience. Cannot wait to go back and bring family.
I hadn't been to Feed for over a year and was sad to see the famous salmon bowl was absent from the menu. In fact, the menu had changed entirely. However, my sadness was turned to joy when I got my food. The fish of the day, Mahi Mahi, was served with Bok Choy and a beautiful curry sauce. I also tasted my friend's ling cod- the special of the day (ok I tasted it twice) and my sister's salmon. Delicious. All of it. Even better, our server (more on him later) told us where our fish came from. I just love when a restaurant is mindful of where they get their food and when they offer up that information. Our fourth date was late and he brought a surprise guest but Feed was not discouraged. They amiably added a chair to our table. The boys ordered like kings – ribs, Caesar salad, more salmon, and brussels sprouts. And lots of cocktails. I was too full to try any of it but it was gone soon after it was put on the table so I can say with confidence that they also enjoyed their meals.
Back to our server. Adolphus was a doll. At different times, we all commented on how easy he was on the eyes. Most importantly, he was classy, playful, attentive and knowledgeable. We finished dinner with two orders of the butterscotch Pot de creme (Adolphus' favorite), one order of the flourless chocolate cake, and a pot of mint tea. Wonderful.
We were looking for a place to have dinner with my Uncle, in town from Japan. We found FEED! The menu is an interesting blend of styles of food, kind of an Asian inspired menu, but also has a few really delicious looking pastas. We ended up ordering three starters, an entree each and a surprisingly delicious flour less chocolate cake for dessert. The scallops were really delicious with a subtle hint of heat, the tuna tartare was really nice with mango. My salmon seemed a little over-seasoned, but my husbands Pork Chop was delicious and was my Uncle's Hangar Steak. The cake had some essence of mint or something that made it more interesting than a normal flour less chocolate cake. And if you can get sat in the back indoor/outdoor room, it's just beautiful. We'll go back!
Went for lunch on MLK day. We were 2 women who were virtually ignored by our server forcing me to violently wave my arms to get water, beverage, place order and pay bill. Seriously? And the food was average at best. My sandwich was dry. My friend hated her weird-flavored ice tea. Hackneyed trendy menu. Too many other spots to go to...phooey!
Had dinner with my husband here and we enjoyed it. Service was superb. The food was excellent. We tried a number of small plates. The crispy brussels sprouts were amazing and the Thai Chicken Skewers were huge and satisfying. Wonderful indian spiced cauliflower too. Fun place for a date night.
Went to Feed on a rainy night and the food was warm and great. On a recommendation we stuck to salads, soup and small plates, but it was worthwhile. The French Onion soup and heirloom tomato salad are tops. Everything we saw that came out of the kitchen looked great.
My third time here and still happy. This time we came here with a group of moms and three 10 year old girls. We sat the girls on one end of the table and the moms on the other. They were happy as clams and so were we. The menu was interesting enough to satisfy the grown ups, but normal enough to satisfy the kids. Notable items:cauliflower, brussel sprouts, shoe string fries, ribs, monk fish special, and filet. There was a cucumber gin drink that was fabulous as well. The noise level was just right- loud enough to drown out the sequels of happy 10 year olds, but quiet enough that the adults could hear one another. Our waiter was nice, helpful, knowledgeable, and present when we wanted him. All in all a lovely dining experience.
Nice variety on the menu with lots of farm-to-table choices. Brussel sprouts, eggplant and beats are highly recommended. Very nice wine list including by the bottle options. Service started out very attentive but by the end of the night we couldn't get him to even take our dessert order so we skipped it. Not cool...
There didn't seem to be a theme to the menu that came across. Indian spices on one southern on another, yet another option was a burger. The chef has outreached his abilities, and while each dish sounded good...not really. The table had small plates...cauliflower that was over-spiced and limp, friend eggplant that the Southern girl pushed aside, scallops that smelled fishy and were undercooked, these were what set the mood for the night.
Overall, there are many better place on Abbot Kinney that actually care enough about their customers to provide a chef who can carry out the menu, provide valet parking reasonably, and not rely on the waitstaff to cover for them. Valet parking is overpriced and needs to be brought in line.
This place is back on my favorite list for Venice cocktails and dining. Did a Sunday supper here with a couple of friends out on the patio. Ordered 5 small plates between us. Each one was delicious and worked perfectly together. Our waiter was on his game and made great wine suggestions. He was friendly, but knew when to leave us to talk. Prices were reasonable. Lots of choices for vegetarians considering it is a meat and fish spot. I will return.
I love the idea of going out to eat AND eating healthy too. What I don't get is how pretentious "healthy" restaurants have become in LA. Our waiter barely spoke to us at all. He never once asked what we would like to drink, if we wanted to start with any appetizers or how our food was once it was served. It felt like he was doing us a favor. This is not my idea on how to earn a tip, because they are earned. The food was OK, the steak on the steak salad was grey/white and super thin, it looked steamed. The glassware is so small, I drank my ice tea in about 1 min and of course was never offered a refill. The restaurant looks great....it has really nice light, a big open bar, a great enclosed patio in the back. That's the best part.
When we walked in (table for 5 - Parents, niece, wife and myself - rezo for 7:30PM - and we're on time) the hostess looked at our table for 5 and said that they "gave our table away" - round table, nice by the window. So, basically, right away I know this is not going to go well...and it didn't...they sit us up on the patio at a table for six...
server came over after about 10 minutes to take our drink order....10 minutes later the drinks finally came... The server took our apps order...and those came out after about 5-10 minutes. Dinner order was given, but 1 hour later WE HAD TO ASK where our dinner was.
The hostess eventually made up for the screw up with free desserts. Waiter and hostess applogized multiple times, but damage done.
We came for a very early dinner so the place was only half full. Being a vegetarian I ordered 3 small plates, the spiced cauliflower, the spiced carrots and the brussel sprouts. They were all very yummy, but I have to say the brussel sprouts were insane! Even though they were part of MY dinner, my husband and both of our friends we were at dinner with couldn't stop eating them! FYI, my husband usually won't touch a brussel sprout but we were raving about them so much he had to try them, and then didn't stop!,
We had several small plates and they were excellent. Lot of flavor and interesting blends of textures and tastes.
I did not know that carrots could be so wonderful to eat! The service was attentive and considerate.
The cocktails were varied and interesting but being a wine drinker the Barola and Riesling were very good.
The chef came out and greeted us and chatted for a few minutes. Made for a nice way to end the meal.
We have eaten at Feed at least five times as a couple, and have brought along friends another five times, and every time the food has been amazing. Fresh ingredients, interesting spices, perfect temperature on meat, etc. The staff is very friendly, attentive and knowledgable. The back patio is a fun place to sit.
We loved this place. It's pretty, lively and has creative delicious food. Cocktails were also interesting. Quite a variety of vegetables. For some reason I came in thinking it was vegetarian but it's not - there was beef, Thai chicken etc on the menu. Nice bonus was that we got there about 20 min early on a very busy night and they seated us right away. Very friendly manager. No Abbott Kinney attitude for a hip, trendy place. We will return.
I've been here a few times and the place is, for the most part, always good and you know what to expect. My favorite dish is the bolognese, everything seems fresh in the dish. We also had the beet salad....I like it but my gf thought it was over baked in the oven (a little on the dry side) - it paired well with the blood orange and cheese. We also had the muscles....the sauce was awesome, but I would say that more than 1/3 of the muscles didn't open, we didn't eat them of course but it leaves a lot on the plate.
Pretty good wine and spirits selection from Champagne, wine, and scotch.
Service is good.
I requested a particular table and they were pretty good about making it happen.
